I've long been involved in inner-healing ministry and have seen that when it comes to helping men to be chaste, usually a whole armoury of techniques needs to be implemented, and many of those techniques need to stay in place for the very long term. Exodus 90 is a superb tool and, indeed, was developed primarily to help seminarians overcome porn and masturbation. Its all-encompassing approach of accountability, intense prayer, cold showers, rigorous exercise, no superfluous internet use, etc. over a period of 90 days (often seen by psychologists as the minimum duration to overcome a bad habit) really helps. Other tips I have are: - Wear a "monk cord" around your wrist - Holy pictures, statues and icons around the house as reminders - Convent Eyes - Daily prayers of protection, e.g. St Michael prayer, Ephesians 6, Auxlium Christianorum daily prayers - Avoiding the occasions of sin (not easy!) - Content filters - Angelic Warfare confraternity - Keep busy - Divine Mercy Chaplet - Focus on alternative sources of beauty: poetry, art, classical music, etc. - Counselling / psychotherapy Ideally, instead of repressing or putting a lid on our longings, we need to bring them to redemption. With our longings, we're either going to become a stoic, an addict or an aspiring mystic. Erotic longing is a yearning for intimate joy. Porn is a hellish mockery of a heavenly reality. Open those erotic longings, which are longings for infinite joy; open them to Infinite Joy, which is God himself. Turn the desire up. Aim those rocket engines at the stars.
