America doesn't have a gun problem, it has several of them.
These charts and maps break down the scope of the problem: bit.ly/2odFYVK
No other developed country in the world has anywhere near the same rate of gun violence as America. The US has nearly six times the gun homicide rate as Canada, more than seven times as Sweden, and nearly 16 times as Germany.
The debate over gun regulation in the US seems intractable, but there is one fact that both sides can agree on: Mass shootings are just the tip of a very complicated problem.

@beyondtheclouds95
@beyondtheclouds95 8 жыл бұрын
+King Kasper totally agree. Just visited the UN Human Development Reports and it shows that Japan is at 26.9 suicides and S.Korea is at 41.7 while the US sits at 19.4. (All data regarding deaths per 100,000 males in 2015). Looking at this data, I'm unsure on Vox's argument implying that less guns will mean less suicides, since there are so many other easy ways to take your own life in a developed country. (S.Korea & Japan have extremely strict gun control and civilians have no access to guns) I personally think it would be much more difficult to use a gun vs. overdose on over-the-counter drugs, jump, etc... But then again that's just my opinion; you would need more data and research to make any good conclusion.

Sandy Gonsalves so I will not omit facts like “politifact” did. I’m going to just say a couple of the omitted facts they left out. Now I will admit some of what they said is true but you can read a biased slant all over that article. Next, the study they talk about in this article only covers a 5 year span and they still leave out the fact that year by year mass shootings were on a steady decline. It’s been statistically proven that these mass shootings are down. Next thing they leave out of that study is the vast majority of these mass shootings happen in urban areas where strict gun control legislation is in place and the ability to legally own guns is extremely hard or impossible. Law binding citizens will not illegally buy or own a fire arm but criminals don’t care. So of course in those areas, especially the area with high gang activity, illegal gun crimes will be extremely high. Also if you take those areas out of the equation gun crimes stats would drop significantly to the point where they are insanely low. I just wanna make sure you read this point, the 100% omitted the fact gun crimes are in a decline in the US but I’ll also add that they are dropping even faster since the Clinton era ban on “assault weapons” expired several years ago. Next, the shooting they start off talking about they decided to leave out the facts that a authorized Trainer from the NRA used his AR15 and his incredible marksman skills he obtained through training with the NRA and other training he received in his lifetime to not only kill the shooter but he also stopped him from killing more people and stopped him from escaping. That man put his life on the line, used his training properly and defended his community in a time of need. So before posting a article that you wish to use to argue the fact that gun violence has been in a decline in the United States check it and make sure it can even stand the smallest amount of scrutiny.

It is a step down the path to it. You are delusional if you think it is not. The only motivation in any politician's mind is "How do I stay in power and benefit the most?" Believing that the human nature of any man is above that of Assad, Lenin, Lukashenko or even Hitler, is delusional at best. If that politician thinks they could get to and stay in control of a reasonably wealthy nation by taking the route of direct dictatorship, they would do so. Human nature is fundementally bad. Selfish, greedy, self-centered, irrational, emotional, immature, and tribal. I have literally never heard a convincing rational (Not emotional "but we give to charity", "but the purge isn't realistic" bullshit) argument to that.

Not to mention, some of these people also had voted for Bush who gave us some of the biggest government problems that we can ever manage ( NSA, Patriot Act, etc. ) . Also these people mostly have no issue with going to war most of the time, even when that war is unnecessary ( Iraq War ) .

+J ronnn Do you really need a gun though? Seriously? You don't. You don't rely on it for food or protection. It's not saying you can't have a gun, simply that to procure and maintain ownership of one should be more difficult. What the rate of gun suicide shows is a reflection on the rate of spur of the moment deaths. If there were less guns around, you'd obviously see a drop in these. It's not just suicide, it's domestic killings, blind rage shootings and drunken misunderstandings.

In terms of mass shootings it always appears that the main problem is the lack of communication between the police and mental health services. Here in the UK if you want a shotgun or rifle you apply to the police and they do a background check, they also interview you and if you suffer from mental health problems you get refused. There is better communication later on if someone has a licence but then develops mental health issues. Also this licence needs renewing every five years. You also need a reason to own a shotgun or rifle; so you live on a farm and need it for pest control. Wanting to own a cool rifle isn't good enough. It's a pretty good system but there are still illegal guns out there. Just less of them because it is so strictly controlled. EDIT: and the reason I mention mental health is because 90% of the time the person who becomes a mass shooter very often has mental health issues which if the authorities were aware of earlier they could have reacted to and maybe prevented the act.

xCrimsonxTidex Looks like it's steered towards the gun-control agenda.. God forbid we actually look at a problem, so much easier to shout propaganda and discredit studies with a video of a guy ranting about how technically some of the statistic aren't directly related to legal-gun owners and keeps saying "see, see here is where they trick you.. NOW they just changed topics, trying to trick you again by addressing multiple issues, nobody just talks about one thing and correlates it with another.." I like how he doesnt cover that yes perhaps legal ownership isnt as large of a problem as interpreted by some, and also just says "See look, the US is about the same for homicides compared to other countries that have legal gun owners" which does not fairly compare and completely ignores that these other countries have much more strict acquisition and different licencing processes.. Illegal firearms are still a problem because the access is an issue.. There are so many loopholes for people to acquire weapons..Gun shows, trading, friends, theft, certain state laws etc.

You point is a bit silly, but I will try to explain it to you. All rights are "truly necessary for the country" if we are to remain free. No right is above another, but each are equally important. In regards to the 2nd Amendment, I guess the simplest way to say it is that it gives citizens the opportunity for self-protection and self-preservation against not only criminals, but also intrusive governments. It is what established this country and separated us against King George.

It is also noteworthy that the above mentioned cities have some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the USA. Draw your own conclusions.

NO MA'AM so we should just let people have the weapons to make this possible. That makes sense... Also your argument isn't really relevant since the weapons we have today are far more powerful than guns we've had in the past. Furthermore, public gatherings that are the ideal space to make public shooting possible are far more common in light of the increased denseness of population in the US. Also, your argument ignores a huge part of the problem. Suicide and homicide are a huge problem that, as this video shows are woefully exacerbated by the epidemic of gun ownership in the US.

I guess that they all feel "attacked" and need to "defend" themselves. All I can say is that because the country where I live has waayyyy stricter gunlaws than the US I dont have to fear being shot at school, on the street or by police who assume that everyone has a gun and is triggerhappy. As much as this video emphasised deaths, gun control also improves quality of life (or at least for me and a lot of people in my country it does).

And where ever u r from has a much different society. And it is one that we don't want to digress into. America is the ONLY place on earth with a freedom of speech. That is the right that we use first. And it usually keeps the peace. But in case of our government trying to overtake us, we have our second amendment. U dont. U r sitting ducks. Not only from your government but from any other government that wanted to easily overtake your people. And deny it all u want, but that is a fact. So seeing that u don't know what it is like to be able to fully defend your self u wouldn't know what is would be like to have someone try and take that. Under the blanket of "helping" us. Yeah, no thanks, I'll take my chances on staying free. And my quality of life is among the best in the world. Not an opinion. Or to the amount that it is, the rest of the world must agree as well. More people from more countries get on a list to be allowed to move here than anywhere else on the planet. They are not trying to move to your country in that amount. So stay vulnerable, and I'll stay safe. Peace.

@@iwishiwaswrongbutimnot517 But at the same time, knives are far more limited range than guns. Guns can be deadly from long distances, while knives require the victim to be close enough to be effective. The rest is irrelevant. The issue here is gun deaths, and there are multiple gun problems. If USA would want to reduce the gun deaths by a huge margin, it would prioritize gun suicides, as it has the highest fatalities. Regarding Second Amendment, that will only work if the armament is either equal or favours the people. But since the government's arsenal is much more than just guns, citizens have a tall order to make the Second Amendment effective.

andrewia yes but according to the chart at 3:53 the burgalary rate is the highest in the Netherlands, so the chances of you needing to defend yourself at home is also high. Considering the fact that there's only 17mil people in the Netherlands compared to that of 320mil in the USA the Netherlands shouldn't even be near the top of that chart but in almost every chart they show in the video the Netherlands is there, countries like Russia, China and India aren't. We can't just get rid of all guns. It's impossible to do that in the US literally everyone would have to volunteeraly go and give in all of their guns which won't happen, instead we need to create common sense laws. There isn't enough police in America to go around to people's houses every few months to check and see if they have safe storage, instead everything has to be done before the person buys a gun. There needs to be background checks, everyone who buys a gun should be put in a registry, there needs to be a list of medication and mental disorders and if your taking those medications or have the slightest of those disorders you don't get a gun. There also needs to be proper training. It's the same with buying a car. No license no car. You should get a license beforehand and in order to get a license you need to pass a gun safety test.

17njl01 When you take two countries like Honduras and Switzerland who have roughly the same amount of people and compare their gun laws to gun crime, it doesn’t fit your narrative. Honduras has some of the strictest gun laws in the world and have the highest gun crime rate. Switzerland is 18th in gun ownership but has one of the fewest gun related crimes in the world. Gun bans don’t work as we’ve seen in Australia and practically all of Europe where fewer guns doesn’t mean less gun crime. And if that is the case, then crimes like stabbings, assault, rape, robbery, etc have skyrocketed. More guns are owned in this country than ever before, so can you explain to me how in the hell is gun crime on a steady decline since concealed carry became legal in more and more states.

EmpiricalPragmatist I'm sorry that a trend line drawn in hand isn't a 100% correct, but if you listen to what she says, she says that overall there is a correlation between the number of guns and the amount of people killed, which doesn't sound completely off to me

Because their "facts" are cherry picked data that exclude any data points that disprove their premise. Look up the data on your own. I'll readily admit the US does have a higher gun homicide rate than many western countries, but it's nowhere near what Vox is trying to distort.

@@gunhound45 -How they disproportionately compare US to specific developed UN countries' suicide rates instead of comparing US to the highest suicide rates. US isnt even top 30 in suicide rate. -How she pivots multiple points like when she goes from Homicides to all around gun deaths to fit her narrative -How she mentions US has the highest ownership of firearms but completely ignore the US is only 28th in homicide. -How she ignores that homicide has gone down 30%+ from the past few decades -Adds a clip of Obama talking about San Bernardino which had to with terrorism despite making a chart later that had terrorism go in the "Other causes of death" category -Misrepresents the statistic of mass shootings by showing a statistic of incidents that involves shooting rather than death total. Of the random countries she has shown, proportionately US is below some of the developed UN countries she had shown. The reason why the US kill people less is because of the bad guys getting stopped with GUNS. -Tries to convince you that gun laws are bad and tries to perpetrate the narrative of the 2nd amendments being inefficient by adding suicides. As if Guns are the reason people commit suicide. All 33 of the countries ahead of US in suicide rate have controlled gun laws and still kill themselves more. -She goes on to ignore how a country like Australia had a gun ban and was proven that it was ineffective. Because not only were non fire arm suicides happening at a more frequent rate than gun suicides, but it spiked as soon as it was put in place and faced virtually no change to the suicide rate -Compares the homicide rate to other countries not realizing that 4/5 of gun violence are because of drugs. Chicago despite having the highest homicide rate in the U.S. has also one of the most strictest gun laws -Gives a stat where she compares Aids Drugs War and Terrorism to Gun Violence in the US. She fail to realize War and Terrorism also include guns. And instead of picking the most frequent causes of death like Heart Disease and Cancer she adds Aids which isnt even a huge deal in the US anyway. .003% of the US have aids and even a lower % die from it. Yet still has a higher rate than Homicide. Homicide isnt even top 10 in causes of death in the US.(And yes i understand the graphic was designed to show gun deaths in total) -Would sometimes switch between Suicide to Homicide to all around gun deaths. The problem with this is that this also include self defense homicides and justifiable ones. Which is literally exactly why there is a 2nd amendment -Tries to unjustify the gun homicide rate decreasing by comparing it to other countries *This video is just poorly written. Poorly represented. Obviously biased propaganda and is despicable. They knowingly lie to audiences but forget the internet exist where people could expose videos like this so people dont get brainwashed by this anti 2nd amendment trash of an argumentative video. Pathetic*
