Thundersnow is really cool in real life; I've been lucky enough to experience it a handful of times, and it's incredibly eerie. The snow muffles all the high-frequencies, so where you would normally hear a crack followed by the rumble, in thundersnow, unless you're really close, all you'll hear is the rumble.

thanks so much for converting the fahrenheit to celsius! i just recently noticed that Link’s freezing starts at exactly 0°C, which makes sense because this is the temperature at which snow stays on the ground instead of melting. That being the “i’m cold” point is pretty logical in-game, because it means that most of the time, the player can anticipate where exactly the temperature will drop by looking at where the snow is. That prevents Link from “randomly” starting to shiver in, say, a regular night on Hyrule Plain, with no idea how to leave the cold area, which would probably annoy players.

We now have our very own Hyrule meteorologist! Now these are weather forecasts I could listen to on loop! Nice video, Croton, I really like it! Glad to see you're still making videos on BoTW until ToTK comes out!

I've noticed it is always sunny in Tarrey Town when you visit. Even if there is a thunderstorm, you will see it change as you approach town. The location will still experience the rain before you get there though, as you will see it wet when you arrive and you will need to light the fire at the cooking pot, since the rain put it out. So Link literally brings sunshine to Tarrey Town.

Weather explained: ANYTIME you need to climb, it rains. ANYTIME you need to fight, it Thunders.

Small correction: the temperature is not displayed in fahrenheit in all english versions of the game. It depends entirely on your switch's region. If you're in north america it'll use F, but if you're in, say, the UK, it'll use C. Similarly, the game uses a 12 hour clock with AM and PM for the NA region and a 24 hour clock for EU, regardless of game language. I'm not sure how it works on the WiiU version though.

It's honestly really cool to me that the devs took into account everything to keep track of the actual temperature an area would be in depending on the geography and weather.

2:03 That problem with the rain turning to snow is why a lot of meteorology and climatology sites refer to it as preciptiation.

Never knew the temperature switched between day and night outside of the desert - kinda awesome that the akala tower is at the perfect altitude to study some of these changes

idk how interested other people would be, but i would personally be very interested in a look into what determines the intensity of the combat music! i know it has something to do with how many enemies you're fighting and their strength, but a more detailed (and more accurate) explanation would be cool :)

The fake rain while it's sunny always bothers when trying to climb things, or get to something that requires climbing.

I’ve had a thunderstorm happen in the cold section of the great plateau before. It is a very interesting sight.

I just did the eventide island yesterday, and when I arrived the forecast changed at like 5pm-11pm to be thundering forever, but suddenly turned back normal. But then I tried to skip to night at a campfire and the thunder didn't come. I assume the thunder is coded to be there for a certain amount of time periodically but you can't skip that time by campfire

I can't even begin to imagine how you figured this all out!!

I’ve been replaying the game with my mom this past month (and SHES playing it for the first time! We take turns, its been great watching her try things i would never think of and watching it workjust as well if not better than how i might do it) Its been really fun getting to both apply the knowledge you’ve shared here and share this knowledge with my mom

4:20 Actually, for at least Australian copies of BOTW, the map does display Celsius instead.

It’s kinda funny how it works out. You have your cold, dry air blowing over the Hebra mountains (The Rocky Mountains). Warm, moist air blowing in from Faron (The Gulf). And warm, dry air blowing in from Gerudo Desert (The desert states)... Assuming that Hyrule has a similar jet stream, and is situated on the north hemisphere of its planet, it actually kinda makes sense as to how thunderstorms are more prominent on the central and eastern portion of the map. I know it’s just a coincidence, but I still think it’s funny. Hyrule is alternate America confirmed... Now we just need tornadoes.

I love how the temperatures being shown in Celsius and Fahrenheit implies that the actual scientists named Celsius and Fahrenheit are part of the Zelda universe. Or maybe it stands for FARONheit?

I love your stats videos! I didn't even think about the weather stuff honestly. This was very insightful!

My only issue with the weather system is the rain/snow in the extreme cold of Hebra. It's minor, but it's about the irony of cold temperatures and snow. The snow in these regions should actually be applying a warming effect and add temperature to push the meter closer to 0°C. If the weather is too cold, it actually keeps moisture from collecting in the air to turn to snow and ironically feels warmer to be in, and at -20°C there is so little moisture in the air snow _cannot_ form at all.

I’ve experienced sunshowers before (raining with a sunny sky) and it is *weird*. Like you’ll just be outside, enjoying the breeze, then some rain will come out of nowhere and disappear just as quickly, just like in the games. Idk what causes it but it’s wild

With the Sky Islands in TotK, things might change up a bit in the weather department.

If you get vah rutah to stop, it will never rain anymore in zoras domain (which is kinda sad because it is pretty)

I've seen the sunny rain just a couple of days ago. It happens when you're under a cloud. You can see in 4:02 that the rain stops after the cloud's shadow passes.
