@@felipenico It was good, I'd waited a long time to see them - even if it was without Reni, and featuring a rockier sound than the one that had made me a fan in the first place. The vocals always mean that seeing the Roses is a slightly peculiar experience, every performance comes almost with an asterisk, if you get me. I can't pretend it felt like the most astonishing gig ever. But I did go on to see them at Wembley a few weeks later - and then Reading the year after that...

I’m 22, I saw them live in 2017 at Wembley and it was the best day of my life. I could only imagine how good it would’ve been seeing them in their prime 😅

Like it or not, the Roses were pretty much the John and Reni show. Those guys were the two bonafide all-timers in the group, and you take away one of them and it falls apart. This live show is a testament to what it sounds like when a band falls apart.

True.. it's terrible and just shows that Reni was irreplaceable. The best moments of the Roses onstage (for me) happened when John would turn to face Reni, and they'd bounce off each other. It's so apparent that John loved playing with him. This extended outro (starts @7:27) of 'Elephant Stone' says it all, the engine-room of the Stone Roses was those two guys and their feel for each other's playing. Had this on a CD called Rock Garden for years. Remember listening to it live on the radio too with a mate who was a huge roses fan. He was destroyed by the sound of this. Browns singing is chronic throughout and squires overly distorted and way too loud guitar sounds consistently awful and doesn't work with the older material. Add to that the black hole of Reni and the awful cod blues piano playing going on and you have no less than the death of the Stone Roses in record right here. There are times during I am the resurrection when Brown sounds like Zippy from Rainbow!
