The Stop The Violence Movement is a collection of rap artists and record industry figures who have joined together to celebrate music and preach against the evil of Black on Black crime. Shared for historical purposes. I do not own the rights.

First came the gold 12", "Self-Destruction" on Jive Records. Then the book, "Overcoming Self-Destruction", published by Pantheon Books. The third stage of the Stop The Violence Movement is this home video which documents the activities of this non-profit organization.
KRS-ONE, M.C. Lyte, Daddy-0, M.C. Delite, Wise, Fruit-Kwan, M'tume, Ms. Melodie, D-Nice, Kool Moe Dee, Just Ice, Chuck D, Flavor Flay, Doug E. Fresh,Heavy D, Young MC, Oran "Juice" Jones, Tone Loc and Big Daddy Kane are among the many artists who appear on this longform video. Profits from all Stop The Violence Movement projects benefit the National Urban League.
Also includes the video "Self-Destruction" by the Stop The Violence Movement.

As a child this meant so much to me to see the Hip-Hop community come together and bring awareness to violence in our Black communities. Hip-Hop is really much more powerful than what people know. A voice that speaks can be a voice that's heard. Hip-Hop gives America the power to bring positive change for the better, Knowledge and Understanding brings about self empowerment that liberates humanity from self Destruction✊

Raiders were everywhere. 1991-92 I was in 7th grade a little white kid in Cincinnati suburbs and I had a Raiders Starter jacket. And then some schools banned all Raiders gear cuz it was "gang related"

This was 30 years ago and things have gotten worse! Our young black generation needs to see videos like this! Black on black violence/ crime is at an all time high! 80's and early 90's will always be hiphop at it's peak. Back when hiphop had a message to spread to our community! I wish the new age rappers would make music like this but unfortunately they probably won't smh (Mainstream anyway...)

They continued to make music like this. It just didn't blow up.. The closest was Kendrick Lamar with "We Gonna Be Alright." But during the BLM era of the mid '10s, they were making protest theme music.

THX 4 posting this! Didn't know this existed. I recall borrowing a VHS from a friend of mine back in the day, and it was a video version of the EDUTAINMENT album that KRS put out. Heavy D was on it, too, and he dropped some SERIOUS flames about the bush family. Peace! Also, is there a bts documentary on, "We're All In The Same Gang"?

I remember going to a Public Enemy concert in (Rochester, New York )1988 at the arena was full of smoke ( weed, crack, Angel Dust) it was at least 30 fights/ robberies in there. I remember trying to run and my foot got stuck in between the chairs my uncle helped get loose and next thing you 10 dudes started beating up one guy it was the craziest thing I ever seen.

Here's the thing: a lot of the mainstream acts are only using Hip-Hop (or more accurately, a corporatized version) as a lottery, where they will do ANYTHING to cash out, with no regard to the culture of Hip-Hop. I call those rappers-there are also EMCEES, like the artists in this video, and folks TODAY who aren't mainstream, i.e., KRS-ONE, Rapsody, Tiye Phoenix, P.E., Paris, Sa-Roc, Staahr, Jasiri X, LinQue/Isis, Bahamadia, David Banner, & many more who don't completely get the respect they should. It's up to US to pass down the authentic manifestation down to our children, because depending on others to do that is futile. Peace.

I like MC Lyte's light voice. I just found out recently that she was told to rap like a man when she was just starting out because her mentor or A&R at the time told her that her voice was too high pitched and light. Lil Kim and Foxy Brown had light speaking voices, too... I think female MCs should speak more in their natural voices. That's why I liked Shorty No Mass and Ladybug Mecca.. They had nice feminine voices and still sounded dope.

The poor with 7 sins without discipline is a dangerous element that makes a degenerate known as a criminal. Without proper parenting good schools, a community of criminal out numbers the good in society. Without good community leaders, you have a bad community who don't help schools or parents. & a government that don't back up community leaders are not fit to lead. At what point blame is accepted or recognized? What is evident are the casualties in those areas that are being ignored. But there those that try. We all should fall in line to back them up. It's a shame that it's a small impact, but it a great impact. It's part of the solution...all of us should be apart of that to be a complete solution.
