Merry Christmas Daniel. May your focus be on the good stuff this holiday season. May your loved ones be close at hand and even closer at heart.

Whiskey math is totally a thing. I loved scotch but the stories is what made me truly fall in love with scotch. Also Glencadem is truly one of my favorite scotches and one of the first things I ever tried in the vault when I did a mini tasting with Andrew Harrison back in 2018. Cheers

Balmenach was at one time bottled under the brand name Deerstalker. The 18 was my dad's favorite whisky. When he passed, I kept his last bottle. I added some of it to my infinity bottle. That way, there will always be some remaining, even if it is the most miniscule amount. Thanks for sharing the history. Cheers and Happy New Year.

I'm finding myself coming for the stories as much (if not more so) than the whiskies, and that's not a bad thing. Excellent story. According to the Malt Whisky Yearbook 2024 (a whisky nerd must-read), Balmenach is owned by Inver House Distillers (part of the international wing of ThaiBev) and while it's not released as a single malt, a company named Aberko releases Balmenach 12 YO under the name Deerstalker.

As I sit here on Christmas Eve afternoon catching up on your videos, I find myself smiling and very much engrossed in the conversation with you. I like this. Now, I loved the shenanigans with Rex and the whiskey show that wasn't about whiskey 😂, but I feel kind of closer to you like this. Not in a creepy way. But more like we are standing in that library surrounded by the musty smell of books and oak drinking and talking about whiskey. Thank you for what you do my friend and I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. -Jeff Bayer, The Colorado Whiskey Guy

Really loving the new direction, great work! BTW my latest “whiskey math” was getting Old Forester 1910 and Glenlivet 15 since I was also getting Oban 18 & Lagavulin 16. And the price of the 1910 & Glenlivet was less than the Oban 18 so I mean, that’s a good deal. Right?

Glencadam is fantastic. Subtle like a lowlander but so dense. Bottle needs a lot of air for it to open up properly.

The problem that I have with this story of Balmenach is that peaches were incredible rare in Scotland, especially in the 1800s. You’d likely have to be a pretty industrious farmer to grow peaches in that climate (as far north as Speyside!?!) or have wealth enough to own an enclosed garden or greenhouse. If someone told an excise man that they had a peach shed, it’d prompt a load of questions and amazement that there were peaches on the property. This story feels more appropriate to a Georgian moonshiner or some bourbon distillery’s history, rather than a Scotch story. Might this be another tall tale that whisky marketers love to spin?

Love the new educational direction! You're a great teacher!!! Why do some whiskeys use corks over caps? Is it just preference? Is there an advantage or disadvantage?
