John Manjiro is another amazing story you might look into. A Japanese fisherman who wound up shipwrecked, rescued and who went on to do several amazing things.

Queen Elizabeth: “I don’t think it’s his fate to leave England. Remember what Christopher said when I told him that his war was pointless?” William Cecil: “Unless I win.” Queen Elizabeth: “If you win, anything is possible.” William Cecil: “Even the ‘empress’? You are not so different from the rest of us. In your secret heart…please tell me your plan. I will take it to the grave.” Queen Elizabeth: “Why tell a dead man the future?”

Even the Samurai in the late 1800's were quite impressed by the swordsmanship of the French officers they got to know. As a rule they were very well trained, especially cavalry officers.

Been playing lots of Age of Empires 3 lately and immediately recognized the music in the background. Thought I had forgotten to turn the game off for a second there.

Great video, and as an Englishman I wasn’t aware of Christopher. Stuff like this is fascinating.

Meanwhile, my boy Yamada Nagamasa went to Siam and got whacked because he flew too close to the sun. But without him, we wouldn’t have an unhinged dessert called “Khanom Tokyo” that neither came from Tokyo nor even a Japanese dessert.

I'm looking forward to another true (?) sort of story, about a person we know existed, and was involved in some pretty interesting events. However, as always there will speculation and conjecture to fill in the gaps between historical mentions of Christopher in contemporary historical sources. Even accurate historical documents are products of biased authors, who tell only parts of the story from a point of view that may not be completely factual. Thomas Lockley is a talented writer and am waiting for this book.

This definitely inspired The Great Ace Attorney. Kazuma Asogi a student who was offered to study abroad in London. Nothing particularly interesting happens to him, though 😉

A rare miss, Shogunate. I dislike these conjecture 'histories' that Lockley is known for.

Eh, no. In the 6th century, the japanese waged war in korea, as they had a personal union with one of the kingdoms there. But they lost.

So this new book is 99.9% made up fairytale like the one he wrote about Yasuke. Hard pass.

He uses real historical documents to fill in the gaps. Saying it is 99% made up is just factually incorrect.

@TheShogunate lol, do you even understand what you just wrote? If he had historical documents that proved what he says, he wouldn't need to fill in the gaps. 😆 There are less than 10 sentences in all Japanese historical documents that mention Yasuke. I don't think there is even 10 sentences in European historical documents that mention Yasuke. Yet Lockley wrote a 500 page book on him full of fantastic amazing exploits of Yasuke that are not written anywhere in any language in the history of this planet. So explain to me once again how he uses historical documents to "fill in the gaps."
