When Jamie McMurray took over for Sterling Marlin after his injury, he could instantly feel the difference between his Busch Series car and the Winston Cup car. He was nervous going into his first race at Talladega, a track he thought he was good at, so imagine his nerves when he has to go to his "worst track" the very next week. Not to be cliche, but what happened next was history.

That’s what made Jamie’s run at Roush so frustrating. He was so consistent at Ganassi. I thought he was going to be the next big thing at Roush but it never happened.

Hearing the folks from Roush since they’ve left, it sounds like it was a car issue. He always had the talent. I think Biffle wins a title had he left earlier.

One of the weird memories from my childhood. My mom was sick, and I was hanging out in the parking lot at the hospital listening to MRN on the car radio as this happened. I was so flabbergasted and at the same time elated as I was a Sterling/SABCO fan. Really cool memory to have even though I was picturing it in my head listening to the broadcast.

Jamie was always my second favorite driver (behind Jimmie Johnson). I always remember his rousch days the most and he always seemed like he would always run into the worst luck. He would run pretty good then most likely get caught in a wreck that want his fault. When he won the 500 was a moment I’ll always remember as well

Several years ago, I met Jamie's father Jim while trophy bass fishing at the famous Stick Marsh/Farm 13 near Fellsmere Florida. We became good fishing buddies for a couple years. I live only 30 minutes from the Stick Marsh and Jim loves fishing there so much, he would travel down at least 2 to 3 times a year to fish there. I believe he lives in N.C. somewhere. He would call me about once a month to get the latest bass fishing report, or I would call him if I had a great day of bass fishing there, and we would meet up on the water every time he came down, with me in my little boat and Jim in his boat. Went fishing there with him on his boat one day. What a great guy Jim is. He always wore a big gold ring that Jamie gave him. Jamie earned the ring from winning one of the big cup races, but I can't recall if that ring was for winning the Daytona 500, Charlotte, Talladega, or where. Our phone calls with each other eventually started waning off, and I haven't heard from him in a few years now. I haven't ran into him at the lake either. I hope he's doing ok.

This is going to sound weird, maybe even ridiculous. While I definitely have my top 3 or 5 favorite drivers in each of Nascar's top 3 series my top 3 favorite people in the Nascar family don't even drive racecars, and two of them never have in the top 3 series. Larry Mac, Jamie Mac, and Kelly Earnhardt Miller. I think Larry Mac is one of the single most important people to ever be in Nascar, and he was a big part of why Nascar developed that monster fan base in the early and mid 2000's. His excitement even during qualifying was contagious. I can still listen to him talk and tell stories for hours. Jamie Mac is one of the most likeable, most decent people to ever grace the Nascar garages. Like he said, people would run with him simply because they liked him, and he was much like I felt in high school. I got along with pretty much everyone. Just want to live life without drama, and when you get along with everyone for the most part, you don't have to deal with near as much as some do. I'm so glad he stayed around Nascar after he quit driving. Kelly Earnhardt Miller. Wow. When I listen to Dale talk about her standing up for him, and the way she supported him when they were young, it gets me choked up. My dad was much the same as Dale Sr. Just with a regular job in a regular lifestyle, and an average income. Most of Dale's childhood stories and even into early adulthood, I'd swear he was talking about my dad. I was an only child, and hearing him talk about those things, and how Kelly was such a force for good in so many aspects of his life, I think it really helped him stay grounded and not lose his s**t, and helped mold him into the great person he eventually became. I think without her, we don't have the same Dale Jr. that we have now, and that would suck, because Dale is right near the top of that list along with Mike Joy, and a few others.

Cool story, my cousin married the pilot Clyde who flew Cessna private Jets for a living. When Jamie was sponsored by Cessna, Clyde would fly him wherever he needed to be. In 2010 coming back with team Chip Ganassi, Mcmurray would give Clyde tickets to whoever Clyde knew who would like to go to the Daytona 500 and any upcoming races. Well I was just starting high school and my uncle called me( who is more closer to that side of the family than I am) and said he has Daytona tickets from Clyde to give to me. Well unfortunately my dad wasn’t going to let me fly all the way to Florida when I just started school. To this day it bothers me that I never got to go. He ended up winning Daytona, Charlotte and Indy in that same year. Clyde has told me on several occasions that Jamie is one of the nicest most down to earth man who always never stopped working. As our family all have said “Jamie Mac!” Thanks for taking the time to read this. Take care!

I knew back then that he made a huge mistake joining Roush because they were on the verge of a decline, and expanding to a 5th car only made it worse. He was a far better driver than history will show, but he was always stuck with substandard equipment. So much potential wasted.

I agree with a lot of what you said about Denny, but I don’t agree he only has 2 years left. I’d say 2 years left with JGR sure. Otherwise I believe he goes and races the last portion of his career for his own team to try to get them the chip, even if he doesn’t get it with JGR. He’s very talented and I hope he’s not mark martin 2.0.
