False, Masashi's father was an autocrat who despised his son. He did teach Musashi the way of the sword, along with how to use the naginata, yari, archery and other military tactics required of a samurai warrior but was abusive to Musashi and often ridiculed his son. Musashi learned how to become a great samurai warrior by dueling with other samurai and then reflecting on how he won those battles. It was experience that was Musashi's teacher and he would ultimately write some of his experiences down when he wrote the book of five rings. Musashi is Japan's greatest Ronin warrior and did not earn the right to call himself samurai until he was an old man. He is one of Japan's greatest national treasures and a true testament to the spirit of what it means to be a samurai.

But musashi fought most of his duels with bokkens (wooden swords) and killed every opponent. Also I can be mistaking but I think that sasaki kojirō was his last opponent
