The Story of OSHA (1980)
This film tells workers how OSHA was set up to stem the tide of disease, injury, and death, and what their rights are under the law. Explains how NIOSH conducts tests, how standards are set, and how OSHA investigates complaints. Produced and distributed by OSHA in 1980. Then in 1981, the incoming head of OSHA Thorne Auchter recalled and destroyed most copies. A few copies were kept alive by renegade union officials who refused to return their copies. The penalty for being discovered in possession of one of these films was loosing all OSHA funding for their safety and health programs.
This film was preserved through the years through the efforts of Mark Catlin, who made this and other censored OSHA films available for digitizing.

In April 2009, my father died of Mesothelioma from exposure to asbestos. He worked in a shipyard for 20+ years and they could see the visible asbestos fibers in the air.. yet none of the workers bothered to wear respirators. Nobody thought it was important, the employer certainly didn't care. This came back to haunt him as terminal cancer 40 years later. Too bad OSHA wasn't around at Newport News Shipbuilding back then. I might still have my father alive.

I liked this video and how OSHA sees Human life and health valuable, even 20 years down the road when employees retire they deserve to have a healthy retirement after their service to their country through factory or military or whatever.

You attend an OSHA course for free. It's about 4hrs long. And hands on learning. You'll also be OSHA certified

Poor monkey. Perhaps in the future do these tests on company owners who refuse to provide safe conditions for their workers?

I've been looking for this video. I saw it in my Construction Trades class this morning. The video is old af and there's a part which is just disgusting. The part where they test on the monkey and have him all strapped up and put into that microwave looking thing. Just DISGUSTING. I wish it was CUT OUT of this video, it has nothing to do with any of the rest of the video, nor do they mention the monkey in any way.

instead of protecting the employee, they make it very difficult to be productive,as though the economic worries werent enough osha has stressed out the worker beyond and above, what started out as a great idea its been capitalized to help keep this privatized office(no longer governmet controlled)open and running, more at the expense of the worker rather than the employer
