Learn the complete history of Super Mario Kart, one of the most influential games of all time. After a failed attempt to make a 2-player version of F-Zero, Nintendo created a quirky go-kart racing game featuring Mario & friends. Despite receiving little hype, Super Mario Kart exploded in popularity, becoming one of the best-selling games for the Super Nintendo. It was a genre-defining title and the beginning of one of Nintendo's most popular franchises.

It's interesting that Miyamoto himself said he had little involvement in the development of the game and yet his suggestions ended up becoming key staples of both the series and the kart racing genre as a whole. The man truly is a visionary.

that's usually how it is, idea guys don't necessarily get too dirty, but they aren't just sitting back to be lazy. They're watching, observing, and while everyone else uses physically and a good bit of brain power to work on their sections, they see the big picture as it developes. What separates the good ones from the great ones is exactly what miyamoto shows, he doesn't constantly overseer or care about the non important (to him) smaller details. But the general ideas, and the small and miniscule details that DO matter, he sees, and he implements great things there. it's like a work of art in and of itself watching game development videos and seeing how shapes it like clay

When you are a specialist you try to defend every little step that you have taken. Sometimes the best directors of any type of projects are the ones that can tell when something that was achieved through hard work isn't enough or when something has to go to make the final product better, making their emotions about the effort aside for the better good

I just cried my eyes out... I'm almost 40 and and I remember going to Kmart and my dad buying this for me with the Super Nintendo... We didn't have a lot of money and he said the mom would be mad, but he did it anyway... My dad was Mexican and a field worker so I just think of all the hard work he did just to make me happy... These memories just rushed into me as I watched your video... It may sound so silly but thank you.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Come to Jesus Christ today Jesus Christ is only way to heaven Repent and follow him today seek his heart Jesus Christ can fill the emptiness he can fill the void Heaven and hell is real cone to the loving savior today Today is the day of salvation tomorrow might be to late come to the loving savior today John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Jesus

Not to mention the sound & music technology of the Super Famicom / Super NES was an undeniable leap ahead of the previous Nintendo console gen AND everything the competition had @ the time. Even tho Genesis titles like Sonic & Streets Of Rage were beautiful examples of how far talented music composers & skilled programmers could push "chip tune" (synth-based) hardware, the newer audio tech inside the Super Nintendo consoles was like an entire symphonic orchestra / rock ensemble packed into the system, just begging for game devs to unleash & take full advantage of. For comparison, try listening to the music soundtracks of late-1980s / 1990s PC games running on systems equipped w/ Adlib, Soundblaster Pro or Soundblaster 16 audio cards ... then contrast that to the music capability of wavetable (sample-based) sound cards such as the Soundblaster AWE32/64 or the Roland series (among various others, of course). Even to the untrained ear, the difference between the prev "chip tune" gen & the wavetable- / soundfont-style next-gen music tech is IMO as clear as night & day ... which only further cemented the Super Nintendo consoles as a new, market-dominant platform for the home gaming scene.

In my opinion her work on SimCity for SNES is the most genius soundtrack work in video game history. It's just five simple songs but you have to and can easily listen to them over and over again for hours. It should drive a person mad but you just don't even think about it and just enjoy the pleasant tunes.

Unfortunately, many composers' work for video games are overshadowed, which probably led to many leaving the industry and doing their own thing. Not only did Soyo Oka do this, but many others like Daniel Masson (Donald Duck Goin Quackers PC version) did the same. So i don't think Soyo Oka will ever go back to Nintendo sadly.

My mom and I used to play this version all the time when I was little. Then as a teenager it was quite common place to wake up to my mom and dad bickering in the living room over the wii version and hearing my dad's thunderous laugh. This game is deeply inprinted into my family and generated so many great memories. Honestly a little tear jerking. Especially because time went on, I moved out, they got divorced, my mom went down a really destructive path and my dad and I fell out. I haven't spoken much to either over the last 7 or 8 years ..though thankfully we have been working on that a little more lately. One of just a few channels that I will not only drop everything to watch the first time, but rewatch a few times. The quality of these documentaries are just unmatched.

I remember going to Walmart as a kid and buying this off the display case. It really does hold a special place in my heart and this video is really amazing.

I wish you'd make one of those for more niche, awesome games, like Contra: Hard Corps or The Adventures of Batman and Robin on the SEGA Genesis. The latter had a fascinating development, some of its artists were basically teenagers... Its music was produced by the same guy who'd go on to make the music for the Hitman trilogy... It'd make a great episode.

hell yeah, B&R had insane graphics for an "old 16-bit machine". Genesis had it's own bag of tricks to stand up to SNES.

Not saying it couldn't happen but does seem to lean more towards nintendo. I know both my nintendos and segas got a lot of use growing up.
