In the world of football, you can shine by either scoring goals, dribbling brilliantly, making amazing passes, or excel by stopping other players at the defense or defending your goal as a goalkeeper. But would you believe me if I told you that a couple of decades ago, there was someone who wanted to shine in all those ways? A goalkeeper who was addicted to both stopping goals and scoring some incredible ones of his own. He didn't want to limit himself to just the goal area; he wanted to conquer the entire field.
He did what no other keeper before and wanted to completely redefine the position, at times starting the match as a keeper and switching halfway to play as a striker. And despite being only 5’6 or 168 cm making him one of the shortest goalkeepers in professional footballing history, he was just so good at both things that fifa literally had no choice but to change the rules of the game JUST because of him. So today, we’re gonna look at the incredibly unique and iconic career story of Jorge Campos.

It was almost imposible as a kiddo in México not to admire campos. No matter who was his opponent, orbwho was infront of his, he never allowed himself to not give a 120% of his ability. He knew perfectly that his height was his bigges issue, he understood that the only way to keep himself there was to be outstanding in every game every play. His carisma and humble origins where just out of this World, amazing funny little great guy. By the way, he is still a humble guy up to this day.

Soy argentino y siempre admiré a Jorge Campos.

I searched him on YT and watched his amazing saves, then asked my self, how come I never heard of this guy? only to look at his career on google and see that he only played for Mexican/USA clubs, and never played in Europe. well thats why, if he played in Europe, he would have been a much bigger name. a big talent and awesome goalkeeper despite his height disadvantage.

Jorge Campos was amazing to watch back in his day such a little guy with so much talent still remember him changing from GK to Forward at half time that was pure madness 🤯 but thanks to fifa we will never get to see something like that again. 😏 El Brody truly one of the handful of unique and special athletes of all time. 🦄

I was a huge fan of Campos in the early 90s as a keeper myself. Outside of Tony Meola and Schmichael, he was the only other professional keeper I really herd of. Never knew he was just that tall! Always thought he was a giant till I aaw him play WC94 at a game. Amazing!

By the time I was old enough to understand football he had long since retired. But being Mexican myself I would always heard how much of a legend he was. He is currently a commentator for Azteca 7 a Mexican channel that Airs LigaMX games and also when the Mexican national team plays. He doesn’t speak much as a commentator, he is more like a honorary commentator. But the other commentators that do speak throughout the whole game love to have him in the booth with the rest of the staff.

Campos was just simply an absolute MONSTER of a keeper. He had to earn that spot in pumas back in 88 because Pumas had another legend of a keeper in the starting x1. He also had this weird fake out he would do during penalties that was a hit or miss but when it hit IT HIT I love playing goalkeeper because of him , i just goof around as a keeper but also do my best to maintain a clean sheet . Please do a video on EL KAISER , mexicos best defender ever

As a Bulgarian, I had a personal story with Mexico and Campos in 94. Although I was a kid, I can still to this day recall his colorful kit and him just being everywhere in the penalty. There are some footages from this historical moment for us. My mother (thanks to her I am a football fan) still recalls him to this day as the parrot. Of course it's because of his kits. Mexico definetly had some remarcable players then but no one could beat Campos for me. I am happy that exactly 30 years from that summer I can hear Campos' story.

Campos is a legend.. in the same era don't forget José Luis Chilavert, the Paraguayan keeper who took penalties and free kicks at club and international level. Campos actually predates the modern sweeper keeper by decades. But also, goalkeepers of 5'6 and 5'7 are not as unusual as one might think (they are not common, but far from unique) - their athleticism can make up for inches of physical size
