Brother, this story scared the hell out me when I was a boy. I tell you brother, I heard my grandfather’s voice in my head as you told the story. It was long ago, but it was exactly as I remember it. You bring great honor to our people telling the stories. Thank you...

This sounds like an account from a first hand experience. The fear and need to fell the giant only draws me closer to hear through the fray of the ordeal. It was not a clean win but a desperate struggle for the survival to be alive against the beast of sorrow. A most excellent telling.

I'm sorry but no one cares for my ppls stories. I have been passed many stories. Many legends. And that's all they are to the whites. Only the blacks show us respect and they listen and are very respectful. They too have stories. We listen too to theirs. We too show respect. I am a Cree man. I pass these to my kids. The Cree ppl have many. To us they are not stories or legends. To us they are the past. In the Sweat Lodge I have learned that they are true. I too respect the whites. As we are told to forget the past. The schools they put our grandparents damaged them and put us into a substance abuse habit. We use it to try forget. To cope with the pain. I too was hurt by the past. But no longer doni keep the pain I decided to forgive them. I cannot pass to the next life by holding hate for anyone. I love all ppl. And respect life. Now I'm 37 and still young enough to try pass on the love not the hate. I hope that the whites can learn from our stories. To them it sounds impossible or untrue. But believe me. They are. Thank you to all who take time to read my words and to learn of these stories. I'm proud to see that even the internet has them. Thank the Great Spirit we can pass on our past. Hoka!

I enjoyed your story about overcoming a seemingly insurmountable challenge. And too, I send my compassion to those who suffer. It is certainly possible to be given more than you can handle. To this I can attest. It is equally as possible to use spiral energy to not only survive, but thrive. A spiral galaxy 🌌 is a good image to envision. As in this story, love wins.

I want to thank you Native- Red Cloud for sharing this beautiful story. While I cannot explain why, I have always felt a deep connection to the ways of the old ones, so much so that I feel it within my soul. Every time I read or learn something new like this, it’s like there’s a whisper from somewhere deep inside that’s trying to call me home. Funny how I feel more at peace with a culture I can only learn of then I do from the one in which I’ve grown up in. I don’t know much about my family lineage other than that my family on my fathers side has been here for more than 500 years. Some might laugh that the first Europeans didn’t arrive until 1642. while that may be true, I guess maybe I’m hoping to discover that means somewhere along the way, i might be from one of those great nations that were here long before the white man.

Mankind all around the world have their stories of giants and the battles to overcome them. In Missouri we have Indian mounds. What's in those mounds is protected by law. Before we had those laws we had curious people. They found the bodies of Indian warriors and one or two 8' giants with their weapons. They were all buried together where they battled. The government doesn't want us to know that. What have they to fear? The giants existed and they don't want us to know. Take care. Vaughn

Hello, we followed each other on twitter recently, I'm Jp from Scotland, I hope you and yours are well today :) I have been listening to the stories here and I wanted to tell a short tale in return. For a while now I have used the internet to look through my family name "Fitzpatrick" this is a modern version of a much older name, from a man called Giolla Phádraig; king of Osraige who lived over 1000 years ago just after the time of the Viking invasion, all who share that name today are of a common source though not all would be aware, that man was from a people older still "Osraige" is/was the name of the land yet it was also the name of the people who lived on the land a place in Ireland. It translates into English as "The people of the deer". They too have stories of giants and what modern people term "Gods" the Tuatha Dé Danann "Tribe of gods of the mother goddess" (it's very difficult to translate, these stories were passed down vocally for generations, god can mean great being, something about these people were special) who arrived on dark clowds, blocking the sun for three days and landed on a mountain, some say that meant boats, boats do not land on mountains, Danu means Mother goddess, there are no tales of her, no stories of her deeds, she just is. Some may call the long story of how they came to be called the people of the deer "pagan myth" which concerns a man know as Óengus Osrithe who lived before the Roman invasion in the time of Druids and on whose birth the druids spoke prophecy, he freed the people of that land, they had been tricked and made to live as deer, he broke the curse by answering a riddle and freed the people, true or not the people and the land were known as that. Where I live now in Scotland is less than 1000 miles away from Osraige in an ancient town called Falkirk, which sits along the Antonine wall this is as far as the Roman empire was able to extend, the ancient people destroyed this wall. Ancient Egypt new of them, they fought three empires the last is the British it came and what remained of their songs, clothing, stories and way of life was made illegal, this British story I am sure you are familiar with? It's ideas still exist today. 100 years ago Ireland pushed the british empire almost from its shores and Osraige exists still like it's people, now called Ossory, It's people Fitzpatrick and other names linked to the main tribal one. Today Scotland attempts to remove the British empire politically, even England does not want the british empire. There are groups online in which many people, who like me have looked into these things, now people who share that name and connections to it come together and speak as if they have always known one another, more stories are shared, one story I have shared with them, is of a man named Thomas Fitzpatrick, called Broken hand, when I read the events of his life then I am surprised that there is not more written of him, he spoke your language and more is told of him as a person from Native Americans than any of his contemporary Americans and the name Lakota appears in his tale. He apparently bought what would later be known as Fort Laramie in 1834 and ran a trading post there before it was a fort, he travelled all over your country, trying to work towards peaceful ends from 1849 until 1951 he was instrumental in the first Laramie treaty 1851 being signed, he passed away not long after from an illness, from what I can gather this treaty and a later one holds some relevance today in a legal dispute though I do not know much of this. In more recent years his name has appeared the Fitzpatrick wilderness and Fitzpatrick peak in Wyoming are named after him, I have seen these places on the internet and though Scotland and Ireland are not big places, the rivers and the woods, the smell of pine trees that I can only image exists there , the mountains and the lakes, it is easy to see why he would have felt at home there as it is like a giant version of here, I do not know if there are older names for these places, yet in naming them Fitzpatrick they have been named for the descendants of the people of the deer, who had Stories of giants and a time of a flood, there is evidence to suggest that much of the land here still lies under the water and that britain is not an island but an ancient mountain range where survivors of that flood came from the west and survived there though not many here today would think of such things. Thank you for your stories, may they still be told thousands of years from now.

@@hollyweaver1442 Thank you, it seems you are not alone in that, during researching I have found people who are writing stories about "the people of the deer" in fact its easier to find people writing fiction than it is to find fact. Most of what I know so far is from DNA records, I know my tree has been in Ireland for about 4000 years, the people of the deer existed at least 2000 years ago, we had ancestors stretching all the way east to the Pontic steppes, present day Ukraine, a Nomadic horse people, very similar to Mongolia. History calls the ancients here "Fairies and Pictsies" more and more there is evidence to suggest that it should be "Fair folk" and "Picts" real people not myths and not "Gods" but something else, more real, "Fair folk" are said to have arrived on "Ships surrounded by dark clouds that for three days and nights blocked the sun and moon, then they landed on a mountain" in Connaught, Ireland, no one knows why but they couldn't use the ships again and so took apart what they could to build things here, Some of the Fair Folk had children, some of those children had families, some of those trees still exist today, well at least as far as some stories say.

@@seanfitzpatrick5469 Run a google search for www.fitzpatrickclan.org/ , there are people tracing family trees through DNA, they have a facebook group too though I don't use it much, I only have the lose events back until the Romans arrived there are folk focus on the more scientific side, I've been neck deep in old stories and songs, tales, using what people called things, rather than what modern history tells the world, it could turn out that "Lugh" and the "Mythical gods" might be nothing more than genetic ancestors whose stories were passed down around campfires for centuries.
