A White Falcon has been on my list for many years.. Finally in 2023 I pulled the trigger on a new Terada built G-6136T-59GE Vintage Select White Falcon with TVJones Filtertrons.. It is truly a Masterpiece! It is superbly constructed & beautifully appointed.. With an absolutely amazing Sound! It really is a dream to play!

I just looked up the '72 version. Not counting the dampers, there are six switches on that - what do they all do?!

@@BackToTheBlues Personally, I prefer the later versions of the White Falcon-the ones with the simpler switching (just one pickup switch on the upper bout), the Filtertrons, and the thumbnail type neck position markers which I think look better and are more practical than the block inlays.

In the 70's-80's I had a vintage guitar store in Portland, Oregon, and in the late 70's I bought a 1956 White Falcon from a mom/pop music store in Springfield, Oregon (home of the Simpsons). They were asking $1500 (a lot of money at the time) and I offered $1100 cash, which they ended up taking. I eventually sold the guitar to Howie Hubberman at House of Guitars in Rochester NY around 79' or 80', and Howie sold it to his buddy Brian Setzer .The guitar was a one owner when I got it and the original cowboy owner had inlaid rhinestones around the headstock, otherwise the guitar was factory stock. It was the same guitar that Brian used for the infamous "Stray Cat Strut" video. A short while later I found a filtertron 1959 White Falcon that had the rare stereo set-up with the matching Gretsch stereo amp, that guitar went to Howie also and I'm sure Brian got that one too for his Gretsch collection. I had a Canon AE-1 camera in the 70's and still have some good photos of the guitar with closeups of the rhinestone headstock, glad to share if anyone wants to see it. Thanks Damian for keeping the Gretsch mystique alive.

I just bought a Michael Guy Chislett Falcon. I generally steer clear of signature models, and honestly, I've never heard any of the dude's music, but it has by far the best specs of any current production White Falcon imo. Basically a 59 model with a few stealthy modern upgrades like locking tuners and a string-thru Bigsby. It's my first guitar with filtertron-style pickups (TV Jones Classics) and I'm hooked! Such a unique, almost hi-fi sound.

I’ve been in love with the White Falcon ever since my guitar teacher Mary Osborne-Scaffidi pulled out THE prototype White Falcon that Gretsch had given her (she was the Gretsch girl in the 50s) for me to play on. She had it on the album cover of “A Girl and Her Guitar” … I finally broke down and laid out the $$$$ to buy one last month after years of wanting one. She was a classy lady and a great teacher. And the guitar is timeless!

Played a 1980 here in England today. Was a bit quiet / dead sounding. The guy had a private museum above the shop. For a charity donation he’d take you around. He had a 58. One of two made for demonstrating the stereo pickups. Stephen Stills has the other. Spectacular guitar! My brother had a 93 USA that was incredible. Never bought it when offered. Hence looking at the 1980 to fill the hole the 93 left! Nice video!!

I have a White Falcon and it is my favourite guitar, the one I use most live and in the studio. I wanted one since before I could play. I first saw one in Goody 2 Shoes video (turns out that it was the same one in the Stray Cats video, Marco bought it) by Adam Ant. I had never seen anything like it before. Then in 84 I saw Billy Duffy playing one and loved his sound. I have had mine since 2017. I am considering getting a Billy Duffy signature model but can’t justify it yet.

Hi from Geelong Australia 🦘👍🇭🇲 I love Gretsch and rockabilly just the other day I put one of these on lay by and I should have it in my hand soon I thought I would go for the 6136-55 because I could not go past that Cadillac tile pace what a classic But also because it's a replica of what came out in 1955 to be honest I think that's the best looking one and also I love the fingerboard ❤

Thanks to my sweetie.. who hit a jackpot at the Hardrock Casino Tampa and ordered it in July 2021, and it did not arrive till November..well worth the wait.. now I am looking for a strap (wide and soft to protect the finish) that would do it justice. I have a White Falcon Junior. It’s 6120 sized. I used to smoke cigarettes and after a price change or tax increase I realized that if I quit I would have more than enough to buy a Falcon. That was the last pack of cigarettes that I ever bought and the best guitar purchase that I ever made! Now she seems like an extension of my body and I dislike playing other guitars.

The history of Gretsch guitars, especially the White Falcon, is such a fascinating story; and you did an awesome job telling it. I’m currently reading Tony Bacon’s “50 Years of Gretsch Electrics” and the 50’s definitely were a wild time for Gretsch (and guitars in general). I own a G5125 (with DeArmond PUs) and I couldn’t be happier with it. Keep up the good work, and I definitely wouldn’t mind more guitar history videos in the future. Take care!

I always liked The White Falcon but could never afford one but about four years ago I was looking for a hollow or semi hollow body guitar with a Bigsby tremolo and that was affordable classic and retained modern elements which provided the sound for more heavier music but still had that vintage look and tone. I had never been on the market for this type of guitar but wanted something more dynamic and bold as well as being brand new as it had been many years since I had purchased a new guitar but was working on making videos for KZfaq and wanted something to enhance my playing and sound while inspiring also. So I went to Centre Stage Music here in Kingston Ontario and they had just brought In a new line of guitars which where made by Grestch known as the Streamliner series and I was so lucky because when I described what I was looking for the staff member said that if that's what I was looking for that Grestch where notable for this design of guitar. When I heard the name Grestch at first I was thinking the price would be out of my range and I was shown the lineup. I tried the G2622T right away as it was perfect and I loved the three tone sunburst finish. But the thing was fret access was limited and it was hard to get to the 19th fret and up so I tried a grey G2622 no tremolo and a green one but I can't remember the model name. But the grey G2622 no trem was great and it had better fret access but the green one was very nice it had great fret access and a Bigsby and sounded the best but it was hallow not semi hollow with a centre block. So I came back the next day or the day after with close to four hundred dollars to chose a guitar to put a payment on. I played each guitar and had a hard time because I chose between the G2622 and the G2622T and it was hard. Although the G2622 had better fret access the sound was a bit less distinct and the G2622T was far more clear and had the perfect tone for both heavy and soft music p,us it had a Bigsby (Licenced but that's okay it's the Bigsby B70) this was a key component as I had always wanted a Bigsby on a guitar and had almost bought a Epiphone Lee Paul with After Market Bigsby for Three hundred and fifty dollars but I was looking for a brand new guitar something I knew was not going to require fret changes or any maintenance as so many used guitars over ten years do. But I stuck it out and the G2622T was a great guitar and I was thinking it would be at least 1200.00$ but he told me 820.00$ which was a little expansive but I got to play it and test out the exact model I own and it came with a full warranty for a year and free repairs for that full year needed plus a full tune up and inspection and repairs or adjustments done free. Plus I got a strap picks and he threw in two set of strings and a patch cord. In total it only cost me 880.00$ right from the floor and I had it tuned twice and fully inspected in a year. At first the Bigsby was a mess and every time I used it it would knock my high strings out of tune and the whole guitar would then be untunable. But I took it back and they filed the nut put new strings on it smoothed my saddles and put graphite in the nut and saddles. After that it was mint I took it back just for a standard tuneup and to have everything looked over. I had the yearly tune up and they said it had better action and playability then it did new and they said it was better then before. I like the guitar because although it's a low end guitar it still has the Gretsch name and was brand new so I won't have any issues for a while. It took me two and a half months to pay it off then I financed a Las Paul worn cherry and a Fender American Pro Telecaster that I just paid off a little over a week ago then I have my 1990 Ibanez Ex Series 350 with HSH and a licenced Floyd Rose double nut locking trem and is my guitar for shredding and more dynamic playing. The frets are beginning to ware a bit but it's still fine I just have to raise the bridge a touch ever once in a while to releave fret buzz. Action and tension are still fine but the electronics need a cleaning because I get noise when I turn it up or down and it cuts out a bit if I change positions of the pickups cutting out maiming on the neck pickup setting. I had a JS 100 transparent red but the bridge bolt was totally sherrec off at the head so I sold it for cheap because I needed money and it was the only guitar I'd part with. Now I have my four guitars three of which where bought brand new since 2017 and my Ibanez was my first guitar to this present sellection. I've had many guitars through the years but my Fender America Pro Telecaster 2017 was quite the wonderful guitar and is my first Fender and high end guitar plus only the second America Made instrument I've owned. I've had Epiphones with the Gibson name on the truss rod cover which was a limited edition flame or violin top Las Paul and was a little over a thousand dollars new. It was a beautiful guitar the Birds Eye maple was astounding and the double was potted pickups held sustain for days and it was my baby I even slept with that guitar in the bed with my ex and me to stay warm during cold winter night's. It's was a good thing my ex understood me and knew I was an avid guitar player and musician and she said she loved that guitar as much as I did and welcome it in the bed. Not between us or anything lol just on my side of the bed closest to me so it would not sweat when it got warmed up in the house after the cold night's in the winters. Sorry for writing a short novel lol Now I am going to play guitar after all that reference to guitars Cheers and happy playing to you and every one. Peace to All And All In Peace!!

Great video Damian. This summer I bought a 6120TG from 1990, almost as old as I am😉. It play and sound that much better than my 5420T that I need to own it. I can imagine that a Falcon a better guitar in sound and play than the 5420 and the 6120. In the Netherlands there's an artist who play on a Falcon with Midnight Sapphire finish with golden hardware. I'm looking forward to the day I can play and maybe even own a Falcon like that.

I had always lusted after a 6120 because of Eddie who was my favourite artist as a child. I got my first electric guitar from a skip and my grandad set it up for me (a lot of work) and I played it for a year, I was 16 and had been playing for three months. My dad then bought me an Aria on which he set up and put schaller machine heads on it. I never got the 6120, but in '89 I bought an Epiphone Sheraton ii and slapped a Bigsby on it, I have been lucky enough to tour domestically and around the world with her and recorded in some beautiful and shitty studios with her. She has always been my main guitar. I became so enamoured with her (Lynda) that I didn't have a need (or the kite) any longer for the 6120. I love your posts boss, you always take me back to a wonderful nostalgia and my first musical loves, long may you continue. This was a lovely post, it was nice to get an insight into your journey. My daughter was going to buy me a Gretsch two birthdays ago, luckily I found out from one of my mates with whom she was making sure it was one I wanted. How lovely is that? She had saved forever, I convinced her to spend it on herself (driving licence and a half decent old car). She is now on her second year in University doing music, guitar and voice, I am so proud of her.❤ 😎🎙🎸✅

The White Falcon is a pretty guitar. If I was to ever get one I'd get the model with the "Chet Atkins" style wiggle stick that looks like a fancier Strat Trem Arm. I currently play an Aged Brooklyn Burst Gretsch Streamliner with no Bigbsy and loving it; its my first Gretsch.

I've wanted a White Falcon since the same Stray Cats video. I'm a few years older but not to much. I finally got my NOS 1990 White Falcon 5 years ago I think, the first year Falcon after Fred Gretsch bought the company from Baldwin. It's everything I ever wanted in a guitar.

I've been playing guitar since 1965. I've always loved Gretsch guitars. My father also played and owned a Country Gentleman. When I first seen a White Falcon, I wanted one. To this day, at age 63, I have yet to afford one lol. I have a 5420T Electromatic, and once owned a Signature Brian Stetzer 6120, but had to let it go for finances. One day

Good Morning DB. Great video, I finally got my Falcon about a year ago (6136DS) and the only problem I am having is now I really don’t play my SSLVO anymore. 😆. But I’m serious. I find the Falcon just SO much easier to play. Maybe I go lighter with strings on my 6120. But maybe it’s just the long scale that I like. Funny story of how you fell for the Big Bird. My story is exactly the same. That Song That Video and I’m still a StrayCat fan and a lover of anything Setzer. Thank you Sir. I’ve Enjoyed the journey through your narration. 👍👍🔥🔥

Damian Bacci, the Fred Rodgers of KZfaq Rockabilly guitar videos!! I say that with all love and respect my man! Back in 96 I was the roadie for my roommate's band, the Amazing Royal Crowns. Johnny played a Gretsch Country club, and although I loved it's sound and thought it was straight up Boss, I was too intimidated to even consider learning to play guitar. Smash cut to 2021 and I'm slowly learning the basics on my Left handed Electromatic Jet and watching the Boss Ross of Rockabilly show me how it's done!! Keep it up my brother, we need more of you and less of the dude who looks like a Chic selling makeup or the fratboy douchebag brothers!

A 72 Falcon, You will really with it. Colin Whitley, A Gretsch expert will tell tell you that Gretsches of the 70's are crappy. He goes on to say he never read Jay Scott's amazing Gresch book. I highly recommend rrading it. What's so great is its basicially accurate and the best guitar book; a great fun read by an intelligen educated man with humor which you have to have if you love Gretsches like I do. I love Gretsches when I bought my first one in 79. Colin Whitley has a 62 Gretsch. That's when Gretsch started to make their lousy double cuts with impossibility to reach above the 13th fret. You will love your 72. Much better designed Falcon without all the Gretsch Crapola of the 60's. Mutes, T-zones, tuning fork etc. I have an 81 Falcon. Their last year before Gretysch closed. Ask Billy Duffy of the Cult from the 80's and beyond. He plays a 70's Gretsch. Fender/Gretsch made a 70's remake of Billy Duffy's 70's Gretsch a few years ago; very cool guitar. I have a few Gretsches from the lte 30's to 81. I avoid those made after 61 (when they started adding T-zones and tuning forks for sustain, ugggh.. You'll have a great Falcon "DrunkFish." Good luck.
