Discussion on the nature of the Right view, mundane and supramundane one. On what the necessary condition for understanding the nature of suffering is, and on some passages from Ajahn Chah's talk that talk about the same.

To understand suffering in day to day life, one of the most helpful thing Ajahn Chah said is : Every time you feel like you're suffering, ask yourself :" What am I craving right now? " Simple and so practical.

This is indeed amazing…a simple teaching re the sense of self not being external to experience and no doubt will take a lot of reinforcement..as you say day and night …but it is wonderful indeed that you present these teachings for us. Gratitude doesn’t begin to convey the feeling arising on hearing this. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

One thing about Ajahn Chah: his talks and statements are very context-dependent and can only be understood properly if you consider the situation they were given in. Take an example: "You shouldn't try to be anything, being is suffering, etc", one case where he said something like this (taking from Stillness Flowing book) was when some monk came to the Wat and claimed to be an arahant. Ajahn Chah saw that all the monks were all interested in his statements and were probably running around gossiping like old ladies when bored. Then, as a response to that situation, Ajahn Chah gave this statement, as a way to counter their careless behavior... They were very much interested in him (that monk) and not in their own development, hence Ajahn Chah was aiming to burst that bubble, in his own way. Point is: some things are very context-dependent in their meaning and some are less (they have the same meaning in many contexts), and Ajahn Chah was very context-dependent (which is confirmed when he is said to have been very varied and adaptable in his teaching styles, based on who his audience was). His statements, particularly, can not be taken in isolation.

Enlightment is explain in the 4 noble truth. The last truth explain the END of sufferring is experience only by one whose mind is at just a single moment touch the supreme moment of full detachment of greed, hatred and delusion by keen and clear comprehension(samadhi) of the meditation object that finally calming the mind weakening the 5 hindrances thus bring one to come out of the sphere of greed, hatred, delusion, realizing aniccha, dukkha, anatha, then follow by seeing the four foundation of body and mind phenomenor and penetrating it in depth until such time in a split moment one suddenly experience the ceesation of conciousness. This single moment are experience by the sharpening of the mind over certain time frame and until it is timely enough to totally in a single moment, momentarily freeing the mind from greed, hatred and delusion and one enter into the state of The end of sufferrings.(Buddhist call entering the stream or in pali is call magga and in english is entering path) One clearly enter this moment in buddhist terms known as magga or entering the path(this moment is ceesation of conciousness and that means you are no more exist in this single moment or to make it simple for you to understand, it is at this moment you are disconnect from this existence which mean you are no more living in this samasara for that nibanna experience moment. As the mind at that moment are so sharp after all the long meditation training and the mind is ready to remove all greed, hatred and delusion in the mind at that single moment of ceesation of conciousness. This is correctly to be understood the meaning of the last noble truth says : END of sufferring This explaination will be unknown by even many samatha and vipasanna practioners. The reason is simply because these practioner mind training has not yet ripen. They are only on queue still their mental training are on going like still on going tuning. Tune away the frequency of greed, hatred, delusion so as to reach the frequency of nibanna. which is the moment one conciousness momentarily ceased completely. Wish my message will one day be appreciated by another(ariya) one who has also successfully tune away the frequency of hatred, greed and delusion, one who is also finally are awaken and he/she will know what i have said here. Do not let this human life be wasted. Not easy to be born as human. The buddha already tell us. Many after this life fail to be born in human and deva realm. Many fall into the 4 woeful realm. So plesse do not waste your human life. Strive for attainment and set it as your goal. Nibanna and the concious. Ceesation of mind and thus body ceases to be. Nibanna do not need mind or body. The last noble truth that explain about the end of sufferring. One who experience the last truth sees it clearly. Mind ceases altogather. Nibanna the unexplainable. That is the ULTIMATE TRUTH Practice vipasanna that leads to nibanna.

Ajahn, Question: "Arising is manifest, ceasing is manifest, persisting while changing is manifest" This reminds me of the phrases: "As soon as you're born, you're dying" and "Life is just a slow way of dying". - As soon as a phenomena arises, immediately with it cessation is happening, there is no delay between the two. And since that phenomena doesn't disappear immediately as it arose, there is persisting while changing. If the phenomena disappeared at exactly the same time it arose it'd be the same as if it never even arose. Is this the correct reasoning ? Thank you.

Many non-ariyan Buddhists use atomic and quantum theory to try to understand ariyan Right view and "emptiness". It is common among these Buddhists to reduce painful problems with persons to just painful problems with a cluster of atoms. These Buddhists reduce their emotional stress by intellectually reducing the actual person to mere atoms or even mere emptiness. Ajahn is saying that such an intellectual reduction of an actual person is an attempt to reduce stress. Buddhists who do this invalidate their own experience. Ajahn uses "mother" or "father" as examples of persons who may cause difficult emotions and be likely to be reduced intellectually to atoms by Buddhists relying on atomic theory. Ajahn's point is that a mother and father are real, not mere collections of atoms. This point applies to whatever arises. In other words, we should recognize the validity of the original phenomenon. By the way, I like Ajahn's convention of not capitalizing "view" in the phrase, "Right view". To me it de-objectifies the notion of Right view, per se. Instead, it emphasizes the rightness or clear-seeing of the ariyan realization.

@@karrimzz no, that is wrong view. you are born of kamma. kamma brings you to your father and mother. If we are born to our parents it is the kamma of having kept precepts that brings our birth to them, not their being together that causes our birth. It is like when there is a battery connected to two wires, one positive wire and one negative wire, when you touch the two wires together there will be a spark. Just touching two wires together does not cause a spark, and if we were to say that touching two wires together is the cause of the spark, we are wrong. The source of the spark is electricity. In this case it is the battery that is the source of electricity, but it requires two wires, conductors for the electricity that makes the spark appear. If we believe in the Buddha’s teachings, already it means that we have to know our life is not there by itself, we are not simply born from our mother and father, rather they are the conductors of the kamma that brings our birth to them.

Majjhima Nikaya 41 says, "Or he has wrong view, distorted vision, thus: 'There is nothing given, nothing offered, nothing sacrificed, no fruit and ripening of good and bad kammas, no this world, no other world, no mother, no father, no spontaneously (born) beings, no good and virtuous monks and brahmans that have themselves realized by direct knowledge and declare this world and the other world....'" I think it's partly a rejection of nihilism, that cause and effect are at least provisionally real, your parents are your parents, etc. @17:15 he says it's "...recognition of the validity of the arisen phenomena."

This confuses me: how can Cessation be a manifestation? What manifests? Emptiness? Is emptiness a manifestation, or the ending of them?
