Forgot to mention: nick uses a telecaster on occasion, more nowadays than back in mythic times. Okay bye.

NICK V. sent the guitar to "his man" at the Gibson Custom shop and they restored it and got it back into A+ playing condition.

I know Nikolai has also been known to use a Rickenbacker 4003 and I think I’ve also seen Nick with an Epiphone Sheraton but aside from those great video, man, this was awesome. You definitely know your stuff

I LOVE THIS! I hope this is a new series that keeps going because this is awesome things that just help getting more invested in a band or if someone wants to learn what type of instrument to get or pedal for effects to sound a bit closer to the band they're inspired by! Excellent work Tristan!

Siiiick I will keep doing it then!

great video man, but forgive my candid opinion: Nikolai's relationship with his jazz bass is a lot like Nick to his Riviera and Albert to his white strat. In my mind The Strokes' bass sound is Jazz Bass with a pick through an Ampeg SVT . He only uses the Precision as i recall from the Angles era, and talking about another bass he uses there's a Rickenbacker 4003 shown as early as the music video for Last Nite, though I don't have further knowledge about its live or recording application. Just my two cents. Subscribed man, anyone who's into The Strokes is a friend of mine.

I DMd Albert about strings a while back. He said he liked George Benson GR112s, 12-53 with the wound G in the early days but plays on Ernie Ball Ultra Slinky’s now, 10-48. I heard a rumor that Nick used those GR112s at least on the first record but I’m not sure if that’s confirmed anywhere.

@@99problemstoysaint1 Not the flat ones! Just the regular Bensons with a wound G.

Nick's Riviera took a year to get back to playing right and it's back in the road

Both have been known to use Freewall Honeydogs on occasion, definitely on their last European outing. The amplitude of the Galaxy Goraxx when combined with Hardstack Jangle Poppers is evident on certain early tracks.

The riviera went missing from an airline losing it. It was at a post office in Pasadena or close to Pasadena for 6 months where it had got water damage. It was left in its SKB Air Case somewhat outdoors. It was never stolen. It was simply lost by an airline. I forget which one. It was sent to Gibson for repairs and as soon as it came back it was used again.

Yes I think he (Nikolai) uses for summermoon. For the micro synth pedal.

The TV yellow Les Paul Special is Albert’s and Albert used a Blues Jr. Nick saw a Custom Shop Tele that he liked and bought.
@JerryCorn97092 жыл бұрын
Nikolai also uses rickenbackers, just thought that was a notable bass and shouldn’t be left out. Not to mention nick valensi being shown in the video using a tele twice (two different teles I ‘mind you) and that still wasn’t addressed but ig that’s more of a nitpick bc it wasn’t as prominent in his arsenal as say something like.. oh, his riviera lol.

I think I once read somewhere that Nick used his damaged Riviera for the music video of "you only live once", since they were gonna fload their instruments in that black goo either way. Dont know if its true though

I was listening to Room On Fire and Albert's tone is much bassier and trebly than Nick's, but yes it's also less gainy

Nick was lucky as he had a relationship w/Epiphone & after it's return, they completely went over it w/a fine tooth comb & returned it to Nick better than New.

Thanks for this!! It was so helpful. As I love the clean rich tones of their guitars!! Although I thought the Les Paul was a Gretsch!

HOW DID NICK GET THE SYNTH TONE???
@calebcollinsmusic84072 жыл бұрын
On 12:51 he just flipped up to the neck pickup and pushed the tone knob all the way. I think he did something to the Hot Rod as well and ended up blowing a couple speakers.
