Today we hike (on horses) to Inti Punku AKA Sun Gate in Ollantaytambo, Peru. This is one of the most stunning and best hikes in The Sacred Valley and Cusco region. Sun Gate is located on top of a mountain, and it's an Inca site far out of reach to most people. It takes many hours to hike to get to the top of the mountain where Sun Gate resides. There is a lot of speculation as to what Sun Gate really is. Was it for sacrifice? Pilgrimage? Or an entrance to Machu Picchu hundreds of years ago. Inti Punku looks like a gate to the heavens, one of the most stunning places possibly in all of Peru. You can take horses even though it's not necessarily something tourists and tour companies do. You have to find a family who owns horses to take them up. Watch to find out more about Inti Punku or Sun Gate in Ollantaytambo. This is the Peru Travel Vlog.

Alex and Lindsey, your videos touch my soul! Though I was born and raised in Switzerland and spent many years in the U.S., I have adopted Peru as the country of my heart and love it as “mi patria adoptada.” In the more than 12 times I have visited for extended periods, I have had the privilege that you are now experiencing to see places and meet people up and down the Sacred Valley of the Incas that are not on the usual gringo trail. I have been invited into stone dwellings in far away mountain passes and shared in ceremonial offerings to Apus with local shamans. I have actually ridden on a horse named Napoleon near Sacsayhuaman... (apparently a common name given to horses in Peru). You both make me smile a lot throughout your videos as I recognize in you my own fascination with the history, the places, the foods, the very air you breathe. Thank you for allowing me to relive some of my most precious memories. Don’t ever stop!

Lindsey and Alex, actually, what you are doing is the best thing ever happen for tourism in Peru. You might not realize now, but the huge numbers of people watching your videos are making of potential travelers around the world, looking for the utmost experience for their lives...and one day, finally decide to come to this beautiful Country. Those places you are going, most of them are unknown to the common tourist and for sure I can throw there Peruvian citizens as well. I don't know how you guys started this, but I can tell you...now, this is out of this world and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have to give a huge credit to my paisanos because everybody in the World can see how eager are to show you, to share their simple way of life they have and be happy with it, to respect you, to make you feel safe and accepted. That is an awesome message out to the world! You might have started this as an adventure in covid-19 lockdown...but now it became the biggest advertising for adventure tourism in Peru of all times. Can you imagine this is happening in Cuzco only? Peru has a lot more of wonderful places to go, to offer and experience the same you are doing now. Different landscapes, different climates, different excellent food... but always the same people that will give you the best they can. Because in Peru, we are the people with a huge heart. Thank you... if it was for me, I'd built a monument of you two guys on top of any Apu around the Sacred Valley....with Potatohead by your side.

The Sun gate seems to me more like a military structure because it's located in a good position for battle tactics. You have a great view to see if enemies are coming form one side so you can alert the city to be prepared. Also, I've heard they used to do that to expand and maintain their territory. Overall, spiritual places like this makes you connect more with nature. Great video.

Alex & Lindsey... another great video and experience you share with all of us. As I told you before, I'm peruvian and also a heavy traveler. I used to do long hikes to far and less visited places like the one you went in this opportunity. I hope do it again as soon as possible. In spite of the problems of the quarantine gave to all of us, it has given you the opportunity to discover some places that even the peruvian hikers didn't know... Now this place, the "Inti Punku" in front of the Apu Veronica is on my list of the places to go. I must also tell you, as a Peruvian, that I thank you very much for everything you show in your videos and above all, for the love you have for my country, even with its defects, but I always see that you highlight the positive things, showing our culture and our way of being that sometimes surprises you... for example when in a restaurant when they don't have something you want, they run to look for them just buying what you want in a closer place... or the very old people who continue to work in the heights, in inhospitable places... You both are great people, with very good feelings and that's what the world needs. Never change!

Hi guys! When you said Inti Punku, I thought of the other one (near Machu Picchu). Beautiful. I still remember the apu Veronica ❤ (wow). Regarding the anticuchos: they are supposed to be tender and juicy, just like the ones you had this time (beef hearts or alpaca). The green sauce looks like chimichurri. And those potatoes... yummy. You are right: we Peruvians are "soperos" (we like soup) 🍲 😋

One of the top videos of your trip in Peru. If you have chance, take a ride by car to the Abra Malaga (Abra is the continental divide, to cross the Andes from Pacific basin to the Atlantic basin). Abra Malaga is located to 4700 meters above sea level, and from there you can see the Apu Verónica very close. Continuing the road, you will see the transition from sierra to cloud forest.

Amazing views from Inti Punku! all the times that I went to cuzco, never hiked there because of time. For sure I'm gonna hike there next time! Ps: Have you guys have heard from Waqra Pukara? it's in southern Cuzco. It's A M A Z I N G, and have incredible views. 4000+ meters above sea level.

@@lindseyfw2903 it’s a hidden treasure! Not so much people go there because there’s not much publicity to it. The hike is 3 hours long because of the altitude, but is not that hard in terms of terrain. I’ve went last year without a guide and was easy to follow the track but it was tricky to get to the start of the trek. You have to go to through the road to Sicuani (the bus leaves at 3:30 am from Cusco, very cheap) and then ask the driver to stop at chuquicahuana bridge. From there take a car from the bridge and tell him/her you want to go to the lake where the trek to waqra pukara starts. You’re gonna pass a beautiful really big lake in your way to Sangarará where your gonna take breakfast and buy some stuff to eat up in the trek. (The highest point of the trek is 4600+ msnm so eat light) it is VERY cold so, I highly recommend a good coat. Have some rain coats also cause there’s usually espontaneous rains and depending of the time of year even hail. The trek is the most stunning I ever walked in Cusco. I recomend some stops to meditate and connect with the place. If your able to, camp in the site is permitted, so it could be and amazing experience. I didn’t do it because I didn’t know I could, but when I go back, I will for sure camp there. Is like being in another planet. And the site itself is vertigo inducing for the cliffs that surround it. If you have any questions if you decide to go, write me on ig: @the_febra_channel! :)
