Pretty disappointed in YOU Parker. I thought you would learn from the 1st review you made on this subwoofer. Your biggest failure is using that tiny box for this massive subwoofer. Your box needed to be increased by nearly 2x. This is why it kept getting stinky and surprised you didnt blow it AGAIN 😆. You got super lucky they fixed it for free as well. ITS THE. LACK OF SIZE IN YOUR BOX THAT CAUSES THIS SUB TO BLOW AND YOU SHOULD GET A LARGER BOX AND THEN DO A 3RD REVIEW. I enjoy your videos but you did this sub no justice on this review...thank you as always!!!

Im surprised that Dave had the time to repair your sub. I had him build me four Sundown X8V3 with his DL Designs upgraded coils, one of them blew the tinsel lead within a few months. I tried contacting him several times, using several different methods but never got a response. I ultimately had to pay to get it repaired. I am not knocking Sundown or the subs that Dave builds but I cannot recommend him due to poor customer service and not honoring his warranty. I wish people would take pride in their work and take care of their customers.

Loving the content dude. It is possible to build one large enclosure with a tuneable port that you can use for all drivers. Give it a 15” cutout and then you only have to make a baffle for each driver that you can attach to the enclosure cutout. If you build a 4-5 cu.ft. enclosure you can then use various measured sizes of wood (attach to interior walls of enclosure with Velcro to ensure no movement) or XPS foam. Whatever you use needs to be solid/closed cell so that a 1 cu.ft. block for example actually acts as a 1 cu.ft. block when compressed by air. You can also use an external port to adjust tuning for each driver. Varying lengths of 3-4” piping. This will allow you to test each driver in the optimum box/port combination. What you’re currently doing is fun to watch, but not a fair representation of what each driver is capable of. Keep up the good work my dude!

@@ScramTek ...just get two skar vxf 12s, and you'll be happy with them versus buying and 1 12 at 900 or 500 bucks. One skar vxf 12 by itself will probably give you a real close comparison even if put next to this sundown zv6 12. The sundown would probably take more power, I'm pretty sure, but if you were looking for a everyday listening banging set up, then the skar vxf 12s will fit the bill, while saving you hundreds of dollars. Another thing, in this video, Parker is using a taramps 8k bass amp, to push that one sundown zv6 12. If he was to swap that 1 sundown zv6 12 out, and replaced it with two skar evl 12s, or 2 vxf 12s in this same set up, in this same vehicle, the two skar 12s will perform way better than that 1 sundown zv6 12. And still cost half the price for that one sundown zv6 12 inch sub. So if you are looking for sound instead of name brands to boast about, there are plenty of things to do, and brands to choose from, to get loud and still save.

Almost all these reviews aren’t that useful apart from visual enjoyment. Using the same enclosure for every driver means that some are going to perform well and others won’t. I get that Parker buys a lot of the drivers he reviews and that building an enclosure for every one gets pricey. But I can’t understand why manufacturers will provide one of their drivers but not an enclosure with it. It’s not that much additional expense for them just to ensure that their product performs as well as they want it to. This Zv6 should be getting 150+ dB. He’s got enough power on tap. It’s being held back by the wrong box/port combo

All these large-roll subs are pigs with those long coils and heavy surrounds... 400g Mms. Moral of the story, if you actually intent to play music (targeting 35Hz+) you're better off with a conventional surround with less moving mass like a DC XL SPL or a Sundown U. With correct box loading there is no need for 40mm of xmax for bass extension as the f3 is dictated by motor force (qts) and volume. All these large-stroke subs are mainly good for

My 15in Skar VXF in a Gately 3.5 box sounds so much better though...you know, because it's in a Gately 3.5 box that matches the box size and port size recommendation from Skar. Port size and cubic ft...you gotta use the right box for each sub. Get the recommendation for thos from the sub manufacturer. Too many guys just plopping sub after sub in the same box thinking the sub size is all that matters. I also EQ with a Mini DSP 2x4HD. Learned about that with my HT subs. Even so...900 bucks no thanks.

Who would have thought that reducing the volume of the huge box would help. Someone tell Parker that box displace matters. A smaller box will help with power handling too Parker. It's physics bother. Too large of a box is basically like free air providing no support for the subs suspension

The box what you using for testing is optimised for Sundown X12 V2, then of course it have the biggest chance that it will be the loudest - and obivously in your case it was up to date. I'm not saying that it is wrong, just not as accurate SPL results as it could be, because the subs you tested, had not equal chances, because of a box what is not optimal for them - maybe for some close, but not optimal. I mean with this, in my opinion 1 of DeafBonce or American Bass, or Skar sub maybe would outperform the X12 V2 in a proper box made for them, but maybe not... I think this Z easily will outperform the X V2 in a box optimised for it, so yeah, I would like to see it in a proper box. And also an idea: custom boxes made for your best subs. My case: I have a Gladen RS-X 6.5 sub, I made a custom ported box optimised for it's TS parameters from the specs sheet like almost everybody doing when designing a custom box for a sub with not the manufacturer's recommended box specs. I found out that a Sundown X6.5 have similar shaped transfer function graph curve in any box like that Gladen sub, even their peaks are at the same freq in any box in a same listening enviroment, so I compared them with simulations: I simulated the X6.5 in the Gladen's box, and the Gladen was louder by few tenths of dB at the peak + up to 3-3.5 dB off from the peak on it's RMS power (250 W) like the X6.5 on it's RMS power (300 W), but the X6.5 not reached it's xmax, the Gladen just touched it's xmax, because for X6.5 is acceptable a bigger net volume box. After this I designed a custom box for the X-6.5, the X-6.5's peak was louder like the Gladen's in the Gladen's box, and also simulated in the X6.5 box both drivers, had the same transfer function differences like I wrote down just before on their RMS powers. But Gladen overpassed it's Xmax, so, I needed reduce the power for it in simulations, and after that obivously X6.5 became much louder like the Gladen at the peak, even Gladen was quieter at the peak like in it's box, but still a tiny bit louder off from the peak like the X6.5, just now I can't prove this with real tests, because Sundown's stuff is 1 - hardly avialable in my country, or 2 - it is way too expensive mainly because of shipping payments and similar things... So, in any means, boxes optimised for the given drivers giving always the best results like for me: Gladen outperforms X6.5 in a box made for Gladen, because the Gladen box is a bit small for the X6.5, and X6.5 outperforms the Gladen in a box optimised for X6.5, because the X6.5 box is too big for Gladen, and even X6.5 outperforms the Gladen at the peak freq when both are simulated in their boxes = both subs have very similar sounding, Sundown is somewhat louder, but needs a bigger space, Gladen is somewhat more musical/daily, and needs a smaller place...maybe there's something similar reason why all (mainly "flaghip") subs you tested were quieter like the X12 V2 - maybe for some of them is a need for a bigger box because it's not using the driver's max output potential, or some of them is a need for a smaller box because the drivers starting to have bigger excursion at 70 percent of Bl on smaller power like in an optimal box... Or let's say even if the X12 V2 is truely the loudest, but I think the order from 2nd place downwards would be different for sure.

The Qts Was .39. Usually Subs Under .40 Don't Need A Whole Lot Of Volume For Thier Enclosure. Not Sure If It Correlates With Why Sub Was Louder With Motor In Box. What Kinda Shows The Box Isn't Ideal Is Your Impedance Rise. It's Only Going From .5 To 2.2Ish. My Subs Rise From .5 To 5.8 Ohms A Little Past Box Tuning Hz. Alot Of SPL Guys Rise Even Higher. Oh And Was That Noise When You We're Playing Free Air Just Air Rushing By The Enclosure Opening Or Was That Suspension Creaking/Hissing?

They need to build them better for 900 bucks, you should be able to push them that hard on clean power... What's the point of all that Xmax if you can't push it to the point where you can use all of it without it gettin stinky, It would be cool if you could review the em audio 3k and 5k or even some of the psi platform 5 and 4 with the upgraded options.. I love sundown and what they do, but I think those brands above offer a better value, even the Savard high output subwoofers like the ho12. Which is like 450 but handles 2k every day.
