Fun Fact: Luigi's "Tanooki Suit" isn't actually a Tanooki. Instead of a Tanooki (which is a magical raccoon from Japanese folklore), he's a *Kistune* (which is a magical _fox_ from Japanese folklore).

For the stuff about Luigi in Super Mario Wonder, I'm pretty sure most of his sprites are based off of misinterpretations of Mario's sprites from Mario 1 and 3. So for example, with the Luigi fireball shooting one, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be him sneezing out fireballs since some people mistook the Mario 1 sprite for Mario sneezing.

With Super Mario Bros. Wonder allowing you to play as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad (Blue _and_ Yellow), Toadette, all four Yoshis, AND Nabbit, I'm really hoping that we get to see more characters playable in future games. I hope this becomes the standard! (but you know... hopefully with _actual_ stat differences next time).

Hoping it will! The biggest question is if they’ll keep and expand on the badge system or if that’ll be a wonder exclusive…if so I hope character unique attributes comes back

35:23 I know exactly why they chose those four colors including the blue. In Super Mario Advance 1 through 4 as well as Mario and Luigi Superstar saga, there is a mode to play the Mario Bros arcade except with the character models looking like SNES or All Stars version of Super Mario Bros 2 and more fluent jumping controls. But there is a multiplayer you can play on where there are four players possible. Player one is Mario in Mario outfit, player two is actually Mario in Luigi outfit, player three is Mario in wario outfit, and player four is Mario in that blue outfit

THIS; i completely forgot the NEW Super Mario Bros. Series was technically spun off from the GBA Games I loved that Mario Bros Arcade recreation; genuinely better than the arcade. it wasn't just the SNES graphic, it was the SNES movement, you could change your jump trajectory midair

Mario Galaxy is my favorite game in the series (and my favorite color is light blue), and because of this, Rosalina is my FAVORITE Mario character... I had _no idea_ that Rosalina was going to be playable in 3D World until she showed up in the end credits. That was probably one of the most pleasant surprises of all time!

19:14 Well to be fair it is a game that introduced a lot of new power-ups so I honestly think it makes a lot of sense to revert Luigi back to just being a Mario clone player 2 because there's all this new stuff you can do in the game in Mario 3 that you couldn't do in Mario 1 and 2. I mean you can go against each other in a battle game if you want to steal each other's cards. There's all types of items you can get that can affect the map or affect the stages you're playing on based on what car up to use and what they allow you to do. I mean that's a lot of new stuff to program for so it makes sense to do that instead of having two different characters control differently. Of course that problem can very easily be fixed with Super Mario Advance 4 since you can switch between Mario and Luigi on that and notice some differences

if 3 and 4 had to be toads they should have picked toad and toadette not blue and yellow toad. i mean they eventually got that right years later...

Hey uh, the 2 toads thing, they have (mainly fanon-used but they were used in the dev team during Mario Wii) names. Bucken-Berry (blue) and Ala-Gold (yellow).

Yellow toad in nsmbwii could have very easily been replaced with wario and the color scheme of red blue green and yellow would have still been intact. Wario never being playable in 2d mario games is a crime.

Some extra stuff you forgot about All-Stars, SMB2 lets you pick a character after dying rather than after a continue, and SMB1 & 3 has Luigi’s sprites actually looking like Luigi and not green Mario. Also the SMW Luigi sprite came back in Mario Maker 2, but most of the goofy ahh sprites were tragically replaced by regular jumping, sliding, fireball shooting etc. sprites, that still disappoints me. :( Edit: IT’S THE SAME FOR BOTH NSMB DS AND 2, BEAT THE GAME AND UNLOCK LUIGI.

31:58 Actually it's perfectly justified to not include Yellow Toad and Blue Toad's development names, since they've recently been disproven to be a complete rumor with a baseless source. So you ultimately got the last laugh for not mentioning them since they likely weren't real anyway. Speaking of that, I can't be the only one who finds it frustrating that the Blue Toad in the New Soup games is canonically a different character from the Blue Toad in 2 USA and/or 3D World? Like, why can't they just be one character? What's stopping them? I'd say that it's like if they said Mario green palette swap Luigi was a different character than unique sprite/model Luigi, but at least _that_ has any amount of basis to justify it. It downplays the character's feats to just "well, pretty much any toad that just so happens to have blue or yellow clothes can do this" and removes any amount of originality Playable Blue Toad even had. It actively makes the "character crisis" worse with no positive payoff.

While i get the frustration for the Blue Toad thing, there is actually a reason why he's different in 2/3D World: he's Toad, like THE Toad. In 2 the blue color was for color limitations for his sprite at the time, thing that the artwork didn't show and that was fixed in the All-Stars/Advance remakes. In 3D World the blue coloration was to tribue his apperance in the original SMB2, as the cast of characters used was the same, all with their original abilities (even if i think that it's a bit strange that he was the only one to get this design change, considering that it did, in fact, create confusion)

@@biondigiacomo7176 Of course, but if he's THE Toad, then they could just give him the red spots and blue vest, like they usually do for "THE Toad" in other games, like Mario Kart and Mario Party. It doesn't make much sense to give him the blue spots if there's neither an in-universe connection to it, nor limitations that lead to that creative liberty. So I have to agree with you, it's a very strange decision that doesn't really get much clearer with explanation. It's really a "Have your cake and eat it too" situation where they wanted to do an awkward halfway thing that doesn't really make sense and could've gone for one way or the other much better.

@@BinglesP yeah, plus it's not like the reference wouldn't have been there: the cast is already the same, just with modern designs. And even then, Toad himself would still reference 2 with its design, just not the original, but rather the All-Stars/Advance version. If they were willing to change Toad then they should have given Peach brown hair

Hi i'm from future. 7 months after this video was posted. Super mario bros wonder came out Mabey 2 months ago and it is fun. The roster is big. You can play as 12 freaking characters. You can play as Mario, Luigi, Peach, making her main line Mário game debut Daisy, Yellow Toad, Blue Toad, Toadette, Green Yoshi, Red Yoshi, Yellow Yoshi, Blue Yoshi, And Nabbit. All the characters play the same like Mario except the Yoshi's and Nabbit. The Yoshi's and Nabbit can't take a hit. You can play solo or 4 players and you can swap your character at any time. The bros, princesses and toads may play the same but they make up for it with a new feature called badges. The badges give you many play styles including Luigie's jump if you so like. Its not perfect. I'd like to play as Yoshi and take damage. Not taking damage is boring. O and they can't use power ups. Well I gotta get back to the future tootles.
