Waluigi, Isaac, Shadow/Knuckles, Zero and Bomberman are the only ones I want playable. - Alucard would’ve been cool but I get why he was passed up for the Belmonts - I like Krystal and Ashley’s fangame interpretations, but their series just aren’t big enough as Animal Crossing & Metroid to have them be added. - Now I may like Skull Kid and Shovel Knight, but I don’t think they should be in before Impa and Shantae, respectfully. Oh yeah.. ExciteBiker, Sukapon and Tingle would be great WTF characters as well.

Imagine you had a retro library the size of Nintendo's... you are between the options of doing something foolish and devaluing the games (like realeasing every SINGLE nes game on a single cartridge for $5 total), or something wise (like an online service that offers them all) - the variance in profit is enormous. This is why they have been afraid of getring their feet wet. Anyway, I played masterpieces a few days ago and was offended at what carrot on a stick it was, so I'm glad I saw this vid today.

I think Masterpieces was a brilliant concept hindered by an awful timer. I payed for the fighting game. Why should it be so restrictive? 4 handled it a bit better but Ultimate has the benefit of an online gaming service with a ton of obscure and popular retro games to take it’s place. That and you can actually complete them with Switch’s online service. World of Light proved the unlimited potential of fighters. Even Ace spirits could get in. I’m more excited for the future of Smash.

with smash ultimate, if you want to play online, then you already have access to tons of games on NSO for NES, SNES, and gameboy, so masterpieces doesn't make sense to include anymore. back in 2008 though, it was really cool to have such easy access to free trials of these classic games. the best case scenario for masterpieces was providing easy access to try these old games for people who were children at the time, trying them for the first time. of course, even back then, java applet emulators made pretty much the entire NES library playable on webpages

Did you know that there's an NES in Animal Crossing that can run almost ANY NES game? To normal players it's useless. But if you're a hacker, it can run roms that you "put into it".

5 mins for OOT always bothered me, I always wanted at least the first level of each game playable instead of the timer, but now I understand how emulation works now... What a wild world it was back then to have whole NES games in GCN Animal Crossing though.

19:46 Incidentally, before Lost Levels there was an arcade game called VS Super Mario Bros on the VS system. Many levels were reworked to be harder for the arcade experience. Many of Lost Levels's levels originated in Vs SMB.

World 9 in the original was more just a flooded overworld level than an underwater level

11:50 I've noticed Nintendo is very stingy with putting content in another language in their games. I'm sure people would have liked to mess with Earthbound and Fire Emblem even if they couldn't read it, and news flash, some people know multiple languages. Other cases are Nintendo omitting voice acting in many games. Most of their games feature either just gibberish for voices, or no voice acting at all. The only Nintendo games that have voice acting are those that achieve a dub in at least like 5 languages (BotW, TotK, Mario Wonder) with the only exceptions being Fire Emblem and Xenoblade. It's so weird to me that a company with a family-friendly image wouldn't have voice acting as it would help the younger audience that doesn't know how to read or deaf people. Things have changed recently with things like Famicom Detective Club and Japanese games on NSO, but they still seemingly prefer you don't interact with a language that isn't your own which is just a weird stance to me.

Unironically I enjoyed playing brawl with the wiimote and nunchuk. Sideways wiimote only though is miserable.
