This series has literally changed the way I watch movies. I have started seeing moments in movies and thinking “the pitch meeting for this is gonna be hilarious” thanks for the years of awesome content!

The level of restraint needed to write an entire Pitch Meeting about this movie without even MENTIONING Chris Pratt is extremely impressive.

My favorite line in the movie: "She would if she's got good taste!" Luigi is such a gem.

Super Mario Bros asked the question "will audiences accept video game mechanics as a way to propel the story of a movie?" and audiences answered with a resounding yes.

Producer: "You can't just use court room talk to avoid questions." Writer: "Overruled." Producer: "I'll allow it." Love it when writer guy outwits producer guy 😂

I saw the movie a week ago and I never considered how surprisingly well it lines up with "anything is possible with performance enhancing drugs"

"Because the live action movie 30 years ago made Nintendo lose faith in the film industry." " Yeah, that's fair." Just killed me lol😂

The thing with jack black is that even in the worst movies, he gives it his all and looks like he's having fun. But this one. I genuinely feel he didn't need much direction to do bowser. The guy is having so much fun

To be Fair, the first human ever showing up in an uncharted place immediately making it their kingdom that they rule over *is* pretty on brand for us.

Audience loves it, critics hate it. Screenwriter guy got it right.

"Not until you complete an obstacle course" reminded me of "not until you brush mother's hair, not until you've brushed it well!" 😂

My favourite part was when Producer Guy Ryan said "I'll allow it" in a tone of voice that was like "you're on thin ice Counsel, but I am intrigued..."

How Ryan can make "Minimize those risks!" sound funny is a special talent

The tagline for this movie should have been “you’ll remember the things you remember” which would have been TIGHT

Peach saying okay to the Toad actually makes a lot of sense. She's been raised by them, so she knows first hand that a Toad that's not scared is a Toad worth bringing along on an adventure

3:25 “why would we have Bowser sing a song?” “Well we’re gonna have Jack Black voice him” “Oh yeah, then we’ve gotta have Bowser sing a song.” Yeah, that right there. Jack Black gonna Jack Black. Don’t pretend you didn’t enjoy it.

This past week, in a casual group conversation I said, "It's going to be super easy, barely an inconvenience". To which someone replied with perfect delivery, "Oh really?!?!" We both starting laughing at the inside joke while the rest stared at us in complete confusion. It was delightful!

"Bowser is going to sing? Why would Bowser sing?" "Because Jack Black." "We need Bowser to sing."

For some reason, your inflection alone on “I’ll allow it?” at 1:57 got me. 😆

People don’t seem to understand, contextual action applies, we don’t need to be told what something is and why it is and what it does, just show it is what it is and how it works

If I was 10 years old, this would definitely be my new favourite film of all time. The kids at my screening were having a great time.

"Why would we have Bowser sing a song?" Because Bowser is a gentle soul who writes haikus and has one of Ludwig Von Koopa's pianos.

I ignored this until I saw the movie and I have to say: I actually really liked the movie. It was really good.

Ryan’s ability to make up original phrases for things that happen very often is impressive. We’ve probably seen 100 pitches of movies with blatant nostalgia-baiting. Yet here comes Ryan with a brand new phrase: “I remembered the thing I remember.” 😂😂 That’s gold

‘Super easy barely an inconvenience’ is the words that can make my entire day

I loved that line at the end "Thats kinda all we really need, this is going to be a hit". Felt almost like a break from character but also a super honest line for the producer.

That movie is the materialisation of a studio saying "the fans want it, let them have it"

I think this episode had the freshest jokes of any episode in a while. He didn't rely entirely on catchphrases, and it felt like he took some risks in the writer's room. Courtroom talk and performance-enhancing drugs were great jokes.

2:32 *OBJECTION!* Peach explicitly used the *"we leave in the morning" / "tomorrow at dawn" cliché,* and told Mario he could come with her _only if_ he could complete the obstacle course _before she leaves, so that he does NOT slow her down._ 3:03 Okay. Yeah, I asked that too. 😅 3:22 Actually, I've heard that went the other way. They got Jack Black to voice him, and then Jack was like, "I wanna sing," and that request made its way back to the film's scriptwriters and composer who THEN made it happen. 😉 4:51 Long enough for DK and Mario to establish how much the two hate each other and gripe at each other about how they both think they're a disappointment to their fathers, at least.

Seen these pitch meetings for years on every movie imaginable and they're still as funny as ever.

You left out the part were Mario tricks a sentient WMD into entering the pipe he knows leads to Brooklyn. He sees the pipe and is like "oh yeah, THAT'S the one".

"These risks are so minimal, my heart rate as gone down" Best line ever

2:32 To be fair, Peach said earlier that she was going to leave for the Kong Kingdom in the morning. So whilst it is a valid question why she didn’t decide to set off immediately, she didn’t delay herself so Mario could do the obstacle course.

2:16 I feel a lot of people miss something here. I noticed this on a 2nd watch of the movie, Peach told the council of Toads that she was gonna leave for the Kong Kingdom THE NEXT MORNING. She wasn’t planning on leaving right then and there. When she met Mario (a potentially concerned citizen) and heard that his brother was captured by Bowser, Mario himself insisted on coming with. She wanted to test Mario’s ability and see if he was capable enough to actually face the potential dangers. You have to remember that she admires bravery and determination. She saw his determination to want to save his brother himself and respected it. By the next morning, even though Mario (ultimately) didn’t pass the course, she let him tag along cause she liked his tenacity. I’m sure if he didn’t show any progress at all by the morning, she wouldn’t have let him come. Ultimately, she didn’t “waste time” training Mario, because as she said, she wasn’t planning on leaving till the morning anyway. She probably would’ve slept or something within that time until she left at daylight. You may believe she actually should’ve left right away, but that wasn’t her plan, so it’s not a flaw within the script. Whether or not you want to count her not leaving right away as a critique, her taking time for Mario was not. That part is covered. That one line of dialogue is just very easy to miss.

This was spot on. I kept pointing at the screen in the theater and smiling like “I remember this thing I remembered”

The original Mario Brothers pitch meeting is hilarious! Producer: you consumed a lot of mushrooms while writing this? Screenwriter: oh no, I just ate portobello mushrooms. I didn’t smoke them. P: oh, that’s a relief. S: yeah, magic mushrooms really would’ve interfered with my acid trip.

The whole movie felt like I was watching someone play the game 😅

When Mario and Kong escaped from the sea monster I thought:

"Remember blue shells?" "I do! They're the item from Mario Kart that attacks the lead kart!" "That's right! They attack the second place kart!"

It's always the lines that pass by quickly that make me laugh the most. And then I check the comments but don't see anyone talking about them. For this one, it was "So what does this juiced-up Italian do next?" that really got me.

My favorite scene was Mario flying through the air after being knocked out by Donkey Kong. Princess Peach screaming "Mario!!" Half dazed he says, "That's a me." I broke into tears right there.😂

If this is your sixth time watching it, pitch meeting is probably your comfort food

Brought my son to this for his first movie in the theater. He dressed up in his Mario costume and everything. I’ve never seen him so excited. We loved it. Definitely an entertaining movie.

Some great switch-ups in phrases: "I'll allow it" and "I said what I said" had me dead.

"that's from the video game my brother and I used to punch each other about!" just too real.

Almost every Pitch Meeting requires some suspension of disbelief but this one... yeah this does feel like a real pitch meeting between Chris Melissandri and the writer.

One thing I really loved about the characterisation of Mario and Luigi was the brotherly love they had for each other. Although Luigi does get unfairly limited screen time in the movie, and I know a lot of people like to make fun of or make parodies about Mario being a bigshot and hogging the spotlight while Luigi always gets bullied, I was really touched by the brotherly bond the two had in this film, and it really warmed my heart to see how much the two cared about each other, and seeing how close Mario was to break down in tears after reuniting with his brother was quite wholesome. Not to mention Mario always looking out for his little bro and Luigi supporting his brother's dream and overcoming his fear in the final act. Reminded me of my connection with my brother

Princess Peach did say she was leaving in the morning, before meeting mario. So her schedule was unaffected.

PG: Yeah songs from the 80s are tight. So we’re gonna cut some of those ideas you have and put in songs the kids know, like Take on Me and I Need A Hero. "This is not the kind of movie where I'm going to be answering that kind of question" is exactly everyone's thoughts about every inconsistency. Myself included, I thought the movie was great

One thing that I would like to point out about the film is that during the war room scene in Peach's castle, Princess Peach say that she would leave for the Kong kingdom in the morning, so having Mario go through the training course until the morning did not delay her departure.

0:43 I mean...there is the reasonable Brooklyn lore but Chris Pratt barely tried on his accent to be fair Yeah the powerups had to much of a focus imo, they needed to focus on Mario changing/getting stronger or better as a character, not using powerups to defeat people (DK and Bowser)

You know a movie is playing it safe when producer guy is calm about the description. He still had questions but overall he was very chill about this whole movie setup.

I found the gags quite entertaining, but you are right. It’s kinda sad that our expectations are low enough to where a movie with video game references is all it takes to be a hit. Overall, the movie was good, but nothing too spectacular. (Except by Illumination standards, this movie was a miracle. Probably because the creator of Mario himself was on the team) Also, the star lasted WAY longer than it should’ve. I think it would’ve been cool if it ran out right before they killed bowser and maybe they used the Golden Gate Bridge to defeat Bowser similar to how you do in the games.

The ‘sorry’ delivery after screenwriter guys say, ‘please don’t describe it like that’ is perfect.

Gotta admit watching this with my daughter was the best cinema experience in a long time. I’m still a bit surprised by how good the movie really was honestly, just felt like Mario, and it was fun to watch. The fact that my daughter loved it makes it even better, she now wants to watch the old one…this will be fun 😅
