I was an avid player of the Mario Bros. Video games for over 20 years, I loved this movie and I understood it. The 2nd post credits I think left a cliff hanger

Charles Martinet (Mario and Luigi’s original voice actor) not only provides the voice of Mario and Luigi’s father but also Giuseppe who surprisingly resembles Mario’s original design from the Donkey Kong game. Apparently Charles Martinet also reprises his role as Giuseppe in 20-22 different languages of the film including the Spanish (European and Latin Spanish), Italian, French (European and Canadian, Portuguese (European and Brazilian Portuguese), Japanese, Swedish and among many other languages

I really love the message Lumalee (the blue, suicidal luma) brings. When I watched this movie for the first time, I was really worried he would just jump on the lava the instant he was released. However, he didn't, and even gave us a message at the end. It shows the maximal concept about suicidal people: They normally don't want to end their lives, they just want the pain they're feeling to stop. It was a very delicate message of hope.

Shoutout to Brain Tyler’s work on the soundtrack! He really did his homework by adding the various musical elements from the Mario franchise. Unfortunately, not all his pieces weren’t in the movie, but at least they are on the soundtrack.

I know right? Makes the two sonic movies combined look like cheap cash grand because Sega was broke as usual and really needed the money and didn't care for such pesky things as, oh, I don't know, adaptational fidelity and not focussing on pointless throwaway characters no one cares about or paid to see. Seriously, the Mario movie just shows how badly the human characters in the Sonic movie aside from Eggman need to go to the nearest warpzone and stay there until they think about what they've done.

I really enjoy this movie. It’s not groundbreaking or anything but it was so fun watching it in theaters. Just basically humming along the soundtracks. And yes …..”peaches” was stuck in my head for a week 😂

This is a great apology for the first Mario movie back in 1993, Thank you Illumination! (Fun fact: I didn’t even know this movie was on digital already! 😅)

This movie is total redemption for the 1993 bomb. Took three decades for Shigeru Miyamoto to be convinced by film producers to allow them to try again. The mistake back then was not allowing him to be involved with that 1993 movie. Here, he serves as both producer and consultant for this 2023 film.

yeah most movies now are released digitally within a month after theatrical release. IMO bad move as it will probably draw people away from seeing in theaters

Why do they need to apology for such a fun film. That older movie still a fun watch. It needs to be watched, for it was good for it time. Plus that was at a time when there was really no story stuff for mario yet too

Other than the first Despicable me movie Illuminations movies range from Servicable to Dog turd, and Mario is definitely a good enjoyable movie

I saw this movie in IMAX, and it was awesome. Just pure, unadulterated fun. It's got amazing animation, awesome references, colorful action and great music and humor. In addition to Jack Black's incredible performance and banger song, "Peaches".

Fun Fact: The Blue Shell Koopa is Bowser's forgotten minion who sacrificed himself to save bowser and his soul is inside of the blue shell in Mario Kart Games

I love how close Mario and Luigi they really are great brothers to each other It's cute how Mario defends Luigi from bullies. Nihilist Lumalee (Bluey) is hands down the best part of this movie - no mean feat given that it's just sheer enjoyment from start to finish. My only complaint with this movie is I wanted MORE of almost every scene.

The references they added in the movie to represent all of Nintendo's Mario games is insane! Pixelated Mario, DK's ladder game, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Kart and much more! Even Skip is there! And remember, Nintendo is very critical about their characters. If a character loves, hates, or does something, at some point in the timeline, they've like, hated, or done that thing.

I know I’m about to bring the mood down but the night before it came out (April 4th) my dog, Peaches, passed and we let her go so she could be at peace. I was like 13 when we got her and I’m turning 22 this year. It was hard. It still is. But anyway I took my younger siblings to see this movie to cheer them up. Then that dam peaches song came on lol. Started crying in the theater. But it did help we had so much fun watching this. I still sing the song for my sweet girl everyday on the way to work. Rip Peaches.

Luigi's ringtone is the GameCube boot up sound! I usd to play that console as a kid and it was so cool for them to include that reference! Also right after Luigi is sucked into the pipe a bit of the cave theme from 1-1 is played! There are so many good remixes and reimagining's of classic songs in this movie and it's fantastic!

This Super Mario Bros movie was just AWESOME! Princess Peach was a total badass not that she wasn't in the past before. Also no matter how charming Bowser was he was still an evil conquering monster trying to force Peach to marry him, besides it would never work out anyway. Furthermore DK was so funny during that arena battle! lol What Illumination and Nintendo needs to do is a STAR FOX🦊 movie next hopefully!😉😁

Best movie so far this year. It doesn't have a deep message or anything, or much of one at all really, but it was just a kids movie so it doesn't really need one. It was probably the prettiest movie I've ever seen and chock full of properly executed nostalgia. 8.9/10.

My favorite moments of The Super Mario Bros. Movie are the fight between Mario and DK, the Mario Kart sequence, Mario and DK barreling their way through Bowser’s forces to save everyone, Mario and Luigi going Star Power mode against Bowser and his forces, and of course, Peaches.😄

Bowser actually has tried to marry Peach in the games. The hat he has in the movie is from Super Mario Odyssey. I think it’s implied that this is the reason why he always kidnaps Peach. He’s basically just a romantic sociopath.

This was just some great fun🎉. I missed movies like this that was just for the audience. I actually didn't mind Mario's voice. In fact, after thr first few dialogue bits, I even forgot it was Chris Pratt. Everyone worked hard for this film and had fun too. It really shows how much care was put into it

One thing to always be weary of when considering ratings is that some people think by being a critic they can control the culture. The same applies to average viewers as well. People will go flood the ratings not even having seen the movie because they heard a rumor that hurt their feelings and turns out isn't even true.

I saw the new Mario movie twice in the theater! The first time was on the day of the premiere in theaters worldwide, I have so much hype flowing through my body because I've been a huge fan of Mario since the mid-2000s and I can't wait to watch it. If I recognise the tune playing in the movie like the classic theme from the 1985 NES game, Overworld music in Super Mario World, and Gusty Garden Galaxy, I started to hummed those tunes cuz I feel like doing it. The second time was on the following week after its premieres for the first time, I watched the same movie again cuz I can't stop thinking about it. The story, characters, soundtrack, easter eggs, everything was incredibly awesome and fun to watch! I really enjoy the movie so much and I had a fantastic time watching it in the theater twice! What surprised me is that the new Mario movie surpasses $1 billion box office worldwide and I wasn't expect that happen! I guess it's because the Mario franchise was massively popular worldwide to this day, like Marvel. This is how the new Mario movie was faithful to the video game. I hope they will make a sequel of the new Mario movie because of the very last scene (which was right after the credits roll). After watching your reaction, I realize that you didn't get to see the very last scene although you've seen Bowser singing Peaches again in the mid-credits scene.

The reason I think the critics gave it a low score is because it’s just a simple “Hero’s journey” movie and nothing different happens (which Super Mario is a simple game)

My only complaint is that Luigi in the film practically does not interact with Mario and reunites with him only at the end. It would make more sense if he was instead of Peach.

But if he was with Mario and Peach got kidnapped, there would be no reason for Mario to want to save her. They had to develop a bond first so that's why Luigi was captured. I do wish he got more screen time though, Charlie did great- Maybe a Luigi's Mansion movie can happen

I really had a lot of fun with this film as a lifelong Mario fan. It’s definitely faithful to the franchise. The story is what you’d expect from a Mario movie, the animation is easily the best I’ve seen from Illumination, and the characters are entertaining to watch, thanks to the great voice performances. The only issues I have is that story is probably a little too faithful, meaning that it is a basic and predictable plot, Luigi was pushed to the sidelines, and the Hollywood animated movie cliche of using licensed music, which is the only real part of the movie that feels executive-driven by Universal. But still, Mario was such a fun time and I'm really glad it made over a billion dollars worldwide. Definitely the best Illumination film since the first Despicable Me.

If this is your first exposure to the blue star in the Mario franchise, yeah that blue star’s name is lumalee, he is one of the lumas(the star species) in the super Mario galaxy series, his role is usually giving you extra life mushrooms throughout the game. And the things you referred to as shy ghosts, it’s actually called shy guys! And the dk song is actually an original rap song for the game Donkey Kong 64. And the sorcerer with the wand is named kamek, also known as magikoopa! You also missed another post credit scene after the other credits. You might wanna go back to the movie to see the very end, I’m not gonna spoil it for you.

This movie was such a fun watch for both me and my Dad (who grew up with the OG game)!! Most of the voice actors did a really good job with their roles, adhering to the source material while also adding their own flair to the character! So glad this one didn't end up being part of the video game adaptation curse.

Oh there where a lot of easter eggs - the pizzeria is called Punch Out (Mike Tyson's Punch Out) & it has pictures of Glass Joe & Little Mac. Spike is the bad guy from Wrecking Crew on NES. Luigi's cellphone signal is the GameCube music. The DK rap is from DK 64. The mayor in the real world I believe is Pauline, the damsel in distress from DK arcade game & she was also the mayor in Super Mario Odyssey. Where Mario returns to the real world there's a store that has the Balloon Fight Guy as their logo. Also, there was another end credit scene. Not only do I wanna see a sequel & a DK Country spin off, but a whole Nintendo Cinematic Universe - such as Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Kirby & StarFox. Then make a huge crossover with a Super Smash Bros. movie! 😃🙂

The chart scene in Donkey Kong's world is actually a reference Donkey Kong Racing, which is racing game that came out before Mario Kart.

I will remember for the rest of my life. 23 years old going to cinema fill with kids. XD I LOVED that movie! Went to see it two times (in qc french) I always loved Bowser as well and I was SO happy to see how they made him. So cute!

I kinda wish this film was 2 hours long so that they could have dedicated more time to properly fleshing out the characters and plotlines, but I feel like there must have been a 90 minute mandate or something like that.

I went to see it twice in the theaters. People went mad when Chris Patt got casted as Mario. They think only Charles Martinet should voice the character. Now Charles has retired,and people are still mad. Chris in my opinion,made a good job at voicing Mario. The Pinguin's voice was Khary Payton. Jack Black also did a good job for Bowser. Charles Martinet voiced Mario's dad in this movie,and this is the last time he would do a role for the franchise before his retirement. This movie is an origin story to Mario and Luigi.
