That was actually one of the best most honest reviews I've seen about the Model Y. You nailed many of it's strong points without looking for negatives that aren't really teue, like most car reviewers. To me its an amazing driver's car, I live driving mine fast around twisty roads. Also you mentioned how safe it feels, you might not realize but it is literally the safest car in tbe world. Multiple tests by government agencies on 3 continents have proven its the safest ever. Great review!

Thanks for your feedback and kind words. I have a specific format I like to review cars on, and this was my unbiased review of the Model Y. The biggest surprise to me was that Model 3 and Model Y were impressive cars to drive, so many people unknowingly buying a driver's car. Back in 2016 I drove Model S and was quite disappointed that it felt like a boat on twisty roads with bad body control, but looks like Model 3 and Y are a game changer. Curious about new Model S as well.

Went on a demo drive recently. The drive was not rough as I've heard, the highway noise was fine, the acceleration was eye opening, and the seats were very comfortable (my 14 year old son commented on this). I pick up my Model Y the day after tomorrow.

I think with Teslas build quality also matters. this Model Y that I rented I think had some issue with interior or acoustics that didn't feel right. I have then rented Model Y Performance and it didn't have any issues I mentioned about a regular Model Y.

Thanks for sharing. Mostly because it uses generator as well for braking. I am curious to see how Model Y Performance does as it has bigger brakes. Overal Tesla’s brakes are decent in most cases, you only see this delay during hard braking, just like you described in your scenario.

The performance stops much faster. I just wish you could get it with 20” wheels instead of the 21” uberturbines. Almost everyone I know sells them immediately and replaces them with 19” or 20” wheels, especially if you deal with winter conditions. The uberturbines are worthless to me.

The reason I wanted to try low regen setting as we used to have Fiat 500E back in 2015 and it was like a go cart to drive with very low regen setting which made it feel like a regular car. You should be able to adjust the re-gen breaking settings as long as you're in a parking position. The gear needs to be set to "P", this should then enable the options, for Chill, Roll etc...
@100miledrive
@100miledrive Жыл бұрын
I believe you are confusing it with "Stopping Modes" where you can choose between: roll, creep and hold. This is not regenerating breaking. You car still in one pedal driving mode where you let go of gas and it brakes pretty much to the stop. Tesla used to offer an option where you could go to Controls > Driving > Regenerative Braking and choose between Standard and Low regeneration where your car will coast more as you let go of the gas pedal. 3 Teslas that I had - none of them had these options. I was told they were removed by Tesla. I also heard that the latest software update was supposed to add regenerating breaking option back.

@@100miledrive I test drove a model Y last week and the person at the center said that the braking mode also changes the regenerative braking level. I did not try it, because I asked about it after my drive, but if that is true, that would be strange. What you want it to do at a stop should be different than the level of regenerative braking you want.

@@jiminauburn5073 I am a bit confused with this topic on regenerative braking in Tesla. I do hear that this option is there where i can turn off regen braking but when I do rent it I cannot find it. I will be getting another Tesla soon, will explore this option again.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like you are full on on Tesla. And, yes certainly Model 3 feels like a real sports car with very crisp steering and handling. I liked the feel of low center of gravity driving it on twisty roads. So between Model 3 and Model Y I feel Model 3 gives that emotional satisfaction of being so engaged while driving it. Model Y is more toned down as it should be, in fact maybe I would like to see even a bit softer ride on it but still very compliant.
@RayNLA

@@100miledrive Great synopsis! As far as the ride goes. I ordered both vehicles with the smallest wheels because I like the ride quality of the taller tires. Tesla makes great vehicles that are imperfect but overall a joy to own.

Just the video for me. Wrapping up ordering a '23 MYLR. Should take delivery in 3-5 days. I am 56, have never even ridden in an EV, much less driven one (until my Tesla demo drive) and here I am. About to trade in my 2012 Miata for a "toy" car. I'm all (mostly all) in, because I've done about a year of general research, with the last 6 months much more focused. But my wife not even quite yet to "on the fence". I am hopeful that her driving it will be nothing but a positive experience. But she is pretty resistant to change. I think she went into the demo drive with me thinking, "Well, he'll see how shoddy and unpleasant the driving will be..." And, of course, it wasn't. I actually demoed a RWD M3 and she thought *that* was impressive. Can't wait to take her around in an AWD Tesla!

Thanks for the feedback. I believe this is a stopping mode, like if you want it to hold or roll a little when coming to the stop, but if you let go of the gas pedal it will still come to complete stop. So essentially it is all 1 pedal driving. There used to be a setting where you could adjust regen level, so when you remove foot from the gas it will coast more rather than stop. I heard Tesla brought that feature back in the latest update, but none of the cars I had had this feature.

Excellent review. I love my Model Y LR and have a couple comments. I'm personally not a fan of any type of glass roof. Installed an inexpensive fabric sunshade and it cuts down on the interior sound a bit (although it's the quietest car I've owned). The big advantage of the sunshade is that it keeps the car cooler in hot weather and warmer in the winter. That means even a slight range increase. In warm weather I've found that I don't need the A/C in many marginal instances. The newer types generally have 2 panels so you can just use the front (or rear) panel if you like. I've tried 2 versions, a gray one with reflective coating on the top and a black one with a separate reflective panel. They were both inexpensive and both work well, not sure which I prefer. Five minutes to install and the fit was perfect on both (from different manufacturers).

Hi there. Thanks for the feedback. While driving on the freeway I did mention that sound insulation is on par with competition and also provided the reading from the meter that measures noise levels. The issue I found is how the sound travels into the cabin while hitting bumps, this is not something you will hear in traditional crossovers but it was noticeable in the Model Y mostly due to how acoustics designed in this car. I will recheck this upon renting Model Y Performance
@dvader3263

I disagree with you, even on my May of 2023 LR MY. It was very boomy and drum like with additional noise from the tires on course pavement. I purchased aftermarket taller 50 series profile tires and that helped a little with the tire noise. The greatest reduction in noise was made by installing sound dampening mat in the rear lower trunk, on the rear floor and in the rear fender wells and fender interiors. Additional small improvements in noise reduction were made by using the sound dampening mat on rear passenger floor, under the center console and under the front floor styrofoam below the carpet. Then, I added more sound mat in and around the front fender wells along with thick, soft foam mat material on top of that. Lastly, I added sound dampening mat all around the HVAC biodefense air filter housing. All of the sound mat added about 48 pounds of weight and took approximately 16 hours while costing about $200, working leisurely at 2 to 3 hour days removing panels, installing the mat pieces and reinstalling the panels. It worked out to be a very noticeable difference in the reduction of the boominess, with a moderate reduction in overall noise on course pavement.

I was going to mention in my review that Tesla doesn't necessarily offer a Luxury experience but rather unique due to it's different approach. it's more of a software on the wheels with fairly good driving dynamics. They mostly setup suspension this way to have it handle better but I think they should have more comfort as more families buy this car. In Model 3 it feels totally normal as that car is just very zippy, but in Model y there is a different segment shopping for such car and they should review their approach.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes being able to select regen level was a good option. 1 pedal driving is certainly not for everyone, my wife said the pedal felt heavy for her. As for the fixed glass roof, it certainly looks nice especially for rear passengers to be able to have panoramic view, but having a 2nd partition would be a good option to help with heat issues in summer and improve acoustic on the inside. As for the ride quality I found it comfortable but is still on the firmer side and as I mentioned in the video I kind of expected it to be more cushioned especially for families.

Yep it's what most people are buying. Plenty of power, fairly comfortable, dual motor and decent range. Thanks for stopping by

Tesla certainly has controversial design that doesn’t appeal to everyone, however their technology is what makes this car very unique. As far as interior/exterior quality, let’s see they are bringing new Model 3 Highland soon, that suppose to have better interior.

Starting being overall positive about interior materials "they look kinda nice" makes this video just another fanboi opinionated video. Was hoping for a reality check on the car and honest non-biased review. Reality is the interior of a Model Y is same low quality as a Nissan or any other super cheap car. It's utterly disgusting for his price range.

Hi there, thanks for your feedback. First would like to say that I never owned Tesla, I own BMW X3 M40i. So all Teslas I rented for a day or 2 were just for the review purposes. If you watch few of the videos I made about Teslas I did mention the interior quality and also showed which areas of Tesla made cheaply. For example in 2023 Model 3 review on minute 03:15 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ituSh5ySx9ipmZc.html With new lower pricing tiers Tesla is now out of the bracket of luxury cars and somewhere in between I would say. So while materials don't look luxurious they still look OK especially compare to 5 years ago, don't forget the whole idea and concept design is minimalist approach in general. Many folks who like the luxury of BMW, Audi or Mercedes will never understand Tesla's cabin design.

I only had this car for a day. I don't own Tesla myself. There were some noises coming from the rear seats. I was told I had to adjust the seat belt. Maybe that was the issue, not sure. Otherwise no other rattles or anything abnormal.
