What water can do on a metal cutting disc ?
I always wondered,so i tried to see the result, and it was surprising.
The discs i used : www.amazon.com/stores/ZKH/pag...

anneal ə-nēl′ intransitive verb To subject (glass or metal) to a process of heating and slow cooling in order to toughen and reduce brittleness. To strengthen or harden. To become strengthened or hardened. The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition. More at Wordnik i believe it caused the metal to anneal and at the same time was protecting the blade from wearing down and they cancelled each other out

Looks like yes,but i lean more on the blade being protected. With water, the cuts were slower from the beginning , and arrived at a specific diameter of cutting disc, something changed suddenly. I think the water was hitting the disc right on the tangent or maybe the diameter of the disc caused a specific linear cutting speed generating less heat. Maybe a mix or two, i don't know. In any case ,as soon as the water stopped,it changed again back to "normal" or usual i would say. Interesting ,thanks for that : ) Here ,we call that écrouissage.

Interesting. I hate grinding dust. Water would help with that.

That's odd, i didn't expect the water would stop the friction so much. Is the water getting trapped in the holes in the disk and lifting the disk a tiny bit. Friction is reduced. I'm not an engineer so I'm likely talking rubbish lol. The weather is lovely, I'm used to being cold most of the time.,

After the pump ran out of water it took some time for the disc to cut again,so i think the disc was soaked with water, and couldn't cut because of that. Maybe it's the water itself making a physical barrier like a lubricant,or the temperature too low for the abrasive to cut well. I think that to cut,the disc has to deteriorate significantly,so it releases the abrasive in wich it's made of. It's not like a blade wich can cut because it's harder than the other matrial it's interacting with. I don't really know either.

@@michaelovitch Lets call it water cooling that prevents the metal heating up and melting. Yes im talking rubbish again lol :-D
