@michaelovitch3 күн бұрын

I advise you to change to better oil in future like 5w40 or 5w30. Oils like 10w40 or 15w40 don't have good viscosity when it's cold outside, meaning that the oil will take longer to go through the engine. Maybe where you live in France, doesn't get that cold, so maybe you're fine :)
@michaelovitch22 күн бұрын
According to an engine oil temperature chart,i'm spot on for the local usual weather. Thin oils used todays are more to reduce engine load than for protecting the engine. Manufacturers tend to reduce engine work for emission purpose,so they can obtain less fuel consumption during testing since the negine has less thick fluid to pump. The wear is mostly during start ups,when you have no oil circulating. so whatever the oil is thin or thick the engine is running without oil for few seconds. I agree that,the thicker it will be,the more time it will take to get it pumped through the engine,particularly in winter. The manual says that you can use from 5w40 to 15w40 weight oil on this car. Next time i will use a 5w40,it's the most common type sold here,but not the cheapest haha. I bought cheap oil not knowing what i was to find out on this engine.
@MrThetaphi23 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing this! At 4:23 you are tackling a common problem - the inner race almost always doesn't come off. You are using a cutting wheel on your angle grinder in order to vertically split the inner race, whereby it is hard to not cut into the hub (which you did, as is visible at 9:34). Here, I have used a different technique for some 40 years, which is safer: I use a grinding wheel on my angle grinder, tangetially grinding down the inner race (parallel to the hub's axis). It will show a crack, once it is ground down to about half a milllimeter, it comes off easily and the hub is unharmed, almost no hammering needed. I hope that makes sense.
@michaelovitch23 күн бұрын
Yes it makes sense,and thank you for the advice,i will try that We didn't damage this hub,the person before us did lol The bearings were replaced already on this car. however i damaged one once.

The french safety inspection really notes a bit loose door hinges and dings on the body? That's thorough! :D
@michaelovitchАй бұрын
That's more being picky and justifying their jobs and prices than it's safety related. The rear end bushings attaching the rear end to the car were completly blown up,and they never saw anything until i change them. They can see rust where others don't,or tolerate or not "defects" depending wher you go. It's mostly bullshit to oblige you to come back or not depending on their overal economic situation,local or national. We have motorcycles inspection now,and it's even more subjective inspection,they have nothing to test the bikes,they don't even have driver licences where they test those.

@michaelovitchАй бұрын
Be sure that your tires are balanced,and there is no mud on the wheels. Be sure that all wheels are not loose. For your mileage,be sure that you don't have the engine light on. Poor mileage generally comes from a sensor wich is not working anymore. Critical sensors for mileage are the oxygen sensor,coolant temperature sensor,and air temperature sensor. You need to have a working thermostat. Check the color on your spark plugs,they should be very dark since you burn too much fuel.

Hello do you use normal water for the cooling in the end? I do this but I see many people say this is not good and I understand the reason. But I believe engines are tougher than the people say. In Africa they use cooling water from the river due to necessity and still their engines run for million kilometres.
@michaelovitchАй бұрын
Hello, Yes ,water,just to start the engine and clean the block,with dish soap and different flushes. We used coolant once all was verified and ok to use. In Africa,there is very limited risks of freezing the water in the block,and the water has different minerals than in other regions : they can have limited amount of certain minerals,wich can reduce corrosion,compared to elsewhere,here where i live,you have a lot of calcium in my region. In any case,you need to use coolant,wich has anticorrosion,lubricating properties for the water pump seals,and reduced boiling point to prevent overheating. water is good at cooling,allows more heat exchange in a given time,but cause deterioration by corrosion on engines,cavitation around cylinder liners and things like that. Yes,engines are tougher than thoughts,and they are generally given more attention in countries were vehicles have more value ,or a second life,like Africa,even if it's less and less the case and peoples can get newer ,or equivalent to elsewhere. I live in France and i have a 1999 car lol

@michaelovitch2 ай бұрын
