One of the game's developers hid this secret profanity inside the game, and for years nobody noticed it. But 5 years later, this secret was discovered. Splatoon has perhaps my favorite in-universe fashion sense of any canon. This just serves to cement that. I hope we get this shirt somehow in 3, even if the text’s changed or removed. It just looks nice and its reputation alone precedes it.

Well, it isn't particularly hidden, but Pearl has a song called Fuckin Dudes Be Fuckin Sleepin. The title is censored in-game, though lol Also, in the Japanese lyrics of Big Betrayal, when confronting Big Man about his collaboration with the Squid Sisters, Frye says, "You think we're gonna believe that shit?!" There's also a lot of memes and speculation around Nasty Majesty being about pussy and Shark Bytes being at least in part about Marina witnessing people get killed in cold blood, or being made to do it herself by other members of Octarian society.

"There's profanity in Splatoon" Me, who knows way too much about the series: "Jelfonzo's shirt, isn't it?" Considering his niche fashionista personality, I took it as the character ironically wearing those shirts sold in foreign languages to people for aesthetics that have hidden messages. Like when you see Westerners with tattoos in South Asian scripts they don't actually know for fashion, or shirts in Japan with confusing or inappropriate phrases printed in English for fashion. Except Jelfonzo knows what it says and finds it funny. Tldr; Jellyfish in Splatoon are probably very fluent in memes

I guess PEGI might not care about unreadable text. But ESRB is very picky about content that doesn't even get used, so they might care.

But local content actually part of the game (even if you need internet to access it) will still be rated. Jelfonso is rated by ESRB. Otherwise all online-only games would be rated E for "doesn't contain any content that isn't online interactions".

I mean to be fair, Nintendo allows several crossovers with Sonic despite that the Sonic cast are not above swearing. Yes there are Shadow and Knuckles, but even Eggman and Sonic himself have used profanity.

Nice. The swear word episodes you do are some of my favorite. My gf speaks Spanish and when you did the video on the swear words in the Spanish localized games she gasps. She couldn't believe those words got in there by accident.

Update! Side Order spoiler here as well, Completing Side Order's campaign for the first time unlocks Inkopolis Square, Jelfonzo remaining with his store. And the shirt remains, just on a different day now. (i dont remember what day it was)

Theres more swear words hidden in splatoon like in octo expansion, in on of the audio chat logs pearl gets censored a ton and fry literally says what the fuck which is funny even if it doesn't mean that. Either way its crazy to see something go from a large community meme to now people who barly play this game are gonna know now. This game has a ton or lore and it feels like most people who know of splatoon dont know that and see it as a childish braindead shooter when like its not and has a ton of complexity to the game and lore.

i think my favorite example of spoken splatoon words sounding like english is pearl saying "hello" at the switzerland live concert at the start of color pulse. like it's not even from the games but it's such a cute little detail that she says hello at the only concert that was in English.

This moment really unfolded last Easter. I was about to road trip back home from the coast, and decided to check what’s the buzz on Twitter (back when Twitter meant something). @@Mario497 welp splatoon 3 has been pretty ' ' genderless' ', theres no gender select at all bc u can use any hairstyle, u can wear whatever u want, the gear have both equipable women and men style, there's a lot of things showing that splatoon 3 is way way way more inclusive than other games and it isn't forced or done in a wrong way

@@kayleuwu2238 There are genders in Splatoon 3, the first option allows you to select genders for 2 of the playable species in the game. Hence the 2 options for the 2 species. The hair style not being non-exclusive doesn't mean there are not genders, it just makes customising your character easier with more options and flexibility.

I’m remember when I was a kid and I decoded a few words in the original splatoon and people said I was making it up and that I was stupid but that was in 2016 I think I may have been one of the first decoders’s of course they were words that looks a lot like English like the Nintendo in the squid jump arcade game
