OMG. There is so much more to this than I realized. Bums me out pretty hard. I feel bad for people who just didn’t know any better and then got so let down. I just wish they had been more open with the community. It’s just too bad because their tails are beautiful.

When I ordered mine I had no idea about the drama around Swimtails. I ordered the Blue Siren tail and a Mahina back in early September 2018 and have yet to receive my money back. Many of us such as myself have took Swimtails recommendation of taking up a money back claims with our banks but, many of us have been told by our banks' that money refunds are on Swimtails end. I got so pissed off I ordered a Finfolk and Finis Shooter fin and received it in two weeks. I love it so much and will definitely be ordering from Finfolk again. Swimtails never. The song of the Siren indeed.

Great job about being so clear and factual. Their apology felt lacking, they didn't address many things and that makes me uneasy, like they're hiding something. I just missed the boat on the drama, I was literally going to order a small-fluke moon mermaid tail the day the cart closed. I really hope they send you a tail to review, it would go a long way in to gaining the communitys' trust back, because it would show that they're trying.

That apology is simply ridiculous. A lot of people commented under it saying “well thank you for the apology but does that mean we are getting our refunds now?” And they deleted all those. They lied about “trying” to refund people. I had to file a claim through paypal after 3 months of waiting for them. And paypal made it happen. Guess what? Now they took away the option of paying through paypal. I know that I will never order from them again, nor recommend them to anyone. I used that refunded money to order from finfolk after that and expected to wait for that to be shipped for at least a month. Well it was shipped in literally 6 days. Mind is blown. So swimtails can go and lie to someone else. Thanks for making this video, i feel it is important for people to know the whole deal.

They stole my mom’s money, never gave her money back. My mom contact them, cuz they canceled all orders, and she got me a beta, and the pink sparkle tail. They said that she was just wanting money, I do NOT recommend swimtails.

I ordered a pro tail from them. On their website it says you can pay extra for a rush order, so I did. After my deadline had passed, my tail wasn't here. i sent email after email with no response. Finally after tracking them down on Facebook and calling them out they FINALLY got back to me. They told me that the "rush fee" was for SHIPPING not production! Was not happy with my experience.

I actually managed to get my fins on the amazon beta tail. I love the fabric, the inserts are annoying, but all vinyls are. HOWEVER, I decided to give her new company Aquarius Mermaids a try and was very disappointed. She lied to me, changed her policy, was rude, and then changed her production policy. A '100 only limited edition tail' is now a common and open order tail. I was told that since it was a limited edition tail, I could not cancel my order for a full refund. NOTHING had actually been printed, cut or sewn yet. After the tail went to 'common and open orders' she still refused to acknowledge a refund. the tail had not yet been shipped at this time. I would love to get ahold of a good scuba knit skin for my Mahina as she is still my favorite fluke. goodluck and beware out there

Wow, I'm glad I missed all that drama! I ordered a siren tail back in Spring 2018, and a couple mers in my pod ordered the betta tails around the same time, and it seems that we got ours before the craziness began. However, I can confirm that they make the Hydra tails (siren, betta, etc.) to order, because they ask for your measurement from waist to ankle (recommendation there: add an inch or so, b/c they seem to be shorting it a little) and it took about a month or so to get the tails. I will say that when I ordered, the tail order page did specify that they're made to order and that it would take X weeks (I forget the number at the time) for production. As far as the tails themselves, we all love ours after having them just over half a year. The only 2 complaints have been the shortness in length (esp annoying b/c they do ask for that measurement) and the fact that there are no drainage holes, so the flukes tend to balloon a bit - but we all just took a seam ripper and added some drainage holes, so not a huge problem in the long run. I personally do recommend Swimtails, b/c I'm very happy with my tail, but as noted, I was lucky enough to get mine in a reasonable amount of time without any real hassle. I can definitely understand the hesitation from those who were disappointed/frustrated with their growing pains, but it is a really nice tail. Just my 2 fins' worth.

Thank you for this update! As a Mahina owner I've had my eyes on their betta tails for a while but haven't bought anything just yet. Judging by the updates (and let's not forget Canada Post's lovely pre-Christmas strike) I'm glad I missed out on being part of that gong show. On the positive side, they recently seem to have added a skeleton version of the Siren tail ... :)

I'm honestly ready to scream. My bad experience wasn't with swimtails, but finfun, and they never responded to me. It has been weeks, more like a month and a half, and still no reply. I was so excited for my first tail, and it turned into a bloody nightmare. I haven't even gotten to use it in the water more than once, and I wonder if I ever will at this point

Welp! All I can say is reaaaaaaaaalllllyyyy glad I got stuff from FinFun when I dived into this! Good job dredging up the story Nerdmaid, proof that a free press is a necessary thing. I do hope SwimTails gets their act together, and I can see how a small company could experience Epic Growing Pain Fail. Competition is a good thing though, not cool if there's only one company making merstuff. I will add that I pay attention to what experienced reviewers of mermaid gear have to say here on youtube. They definitely need to work on all of this. I ordered a betta tail 2 weeks ago and I'm having a lot of concerns. I emailed them about never getting an email confirmation or receipt with no reply. I called and the line isn't active. I had to DM them thru ig and i had to wait a few days for them reply and then a few more for them to find my order information. I'm pretty worried about where my money is with them and if im ever getting a tail or refund. I plan on making a review video to cover my experience, if i even get the tail lol.

The customer service is horrid we are from colorado so we had to drive to the headquarters to get our tail but they were super nice and gave us a new monofin for free

SO WEIRD THOUGH because swimtails told raina mermaid a COMPLETELY different story that basically comfirmed the cheating "scandal" so....they either lied to raina orrrr they lied to you... because it can't be both true...

Except Everytime someone said on a forum. Oh it’s been months. Or oh man I’m never going to get a refund. The first thing I did was go to their website. It Never once had a “down for maintenance” or “not taking orders” sign. The cart was alllllways there. And it says loads that they aren’t taking PayPal anymore. Either 1) because they owe so much in refunds any money they got New would immediately be taken for that purpose or 2) they are afraid of people in the future being able to use the PayPal refund system. And still not buying the hacker excuse but that’s just me. Until they take PayPal I’m still not feeling the trust here.

Thanks for the Swimtails history! It really filled in the blanks for me although luckily I had already bought a Finfolk fabric tail and was waiting on that to arrive when I saw the beta tails online for the first time so I never had the chance to go with them.

Yeah I still never got my refund and I went to my bank twice, communication with Ryan is not great. I really wanted my lion fish mermaid tail and the fact that they took their number off of Facebook is sketchy even though it says that they are open no one will contact you, I hope it gets better but I want my money back

And they should not have started orders till they got all the refunds and tail pervious taken care of. How does one travel with a tail?

It's really sad because I wanted to buy a tail but hearing people's experiences with swimtails has scared me off. I'm curious to see if orders are going to be fulfilled.

A few years ago when I was in about 3rd or 4th grade (about 2015-2016) with the really bad pink finis fin. I remember it took a really long time to get the fin into the tail and it almost instantly ripped. I used it about 5 times and the skin tips were so ripped and created so much drag I couldn’t swim in it very well and stopped using it at all.

And I'm excited this is my second tail, and my 1st one was hand made

I bought from Shello mermaid shop, and my tail shipped I'm excited, the tails are made in US and takes 4-6 weeks to make and 2-3 weeks to arrive after

Do you know of they honored their contracts with customers that got left holding the bag? For me that would be the deciding issue. I did have a bad experience with them back when they were new however I would consider a tail from then but only if they honored those original contracts that haven't been addressed.

phew thankfully i saw this video as soon i was browsing their website @_@

I ordered from them they were bad at answering my emails calls and the tails took months to arrive. So I didn't really get to enjoy them in the summer and due to tail bans summer is pretty much the only time I can swim as a mermaid. However I really like some of their designs like the betta tails are really cool it's to bad I didn't get that one since they are closed now. I wish they just sold off their designs to another company. However some of their designs we're kinda dumb like the one tail that was just covered in emojies so cheesy.

We oughta get together to spill the tea about their big fluke (betta) tails. Biiiiigtime. (Let's just say a certain conversation or two was had that started a lot for them & they need to make good on.)

I just gotta comment on this, because even still.... Swimtails has poor customer service. My tail came in late, w/o my Mahina fin, & took DAYSSSSSSSSSS to respond to my emails, even while posting on their Instagram. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Ay, ay, ay. I’m so lucky I even GOT my tail from them. 😭😭😭 I cannot complain about the tail itself though.... It’s beautiful. I guess I’m a lucky fish.

I got flipped over theew them took 4 months of waiting for my betta that I had saved up then got my money back but I asked if I would still get my tail die to the fact I was told it was all ready to ship and go out.monofin n all. But nope they turned it around and said we where waiting for there cassing. So I got my money back and went to finfolk,now I have two finfolk tails. All was a good side, I guess...
