How far do you think the Bucs go in 2024? 🤔

Damn, Double-G, I felt you were a little too hard on the Bucs, although I concede some bias here. It was all sweetness and light and "expecting good things" for two other teams in the division, but you think the Bucs are in for a big letdown? Yeah, they do have a tough schedule, tho'. Looks like 9-8 or 10-7 to me. I don't think Cousins will ride into town and save the Falcons, and I don't think the Panthers will beat the Bucs either time. (And as long as any team beats the Cowboys, that team has had a successful season in my book!) But since we might have a slight disagreement here, I'll treat you like the other team fanboy commenters do and say "You don't know this team; you're terrible; you don't do any research; I don't like your shirt; blah, blah, blah!"

Citing the Texans game as a place where Bucs could have given up on the season is a crazy way to start off this video. That was one of the best games of the year. Two lead changes in the last minute. VERY clearly both teams were playoff caliber.

Exactly, not every loss is proof that a team is bad. The bucs showed that they could go toe to toe with a great team and QB and only lost due to a rare bad moment from a Todd Bowles defense.

One big point that wasn’t really discussed was the hire of Liam Coen. Dave Canales got a lot of praise last year, and some of it was very much deserved… but there was also a significant group of Bucs fans that was quickly losing patience with Canales, especially with respect to the run game. Coen comes from the McVay tree, an offensive system Baker is well versed in. In fact Coen was the OC in 2022 when Baker was with the Rams. The other big change that Coen has spoken about that has me excited is his desire to get Chris Godwin back in the slot where he’s most effective. Canales continually played Godwin outside last year.

@@derekhageman8537 I'm both with you yet so far against what you're saying at the same time. Baker needs a coach who doesn't let him act immature. Baker carries this immaturity onto the field a lot. Antics on the sideline etc. Canales resurrected him _AND_ Geno Smith & is now on the Panthers. So between not knowing how Baker is gonna do, do under a new OC, we have the aging WR corps with a Mike Evans who has drop issues. I wonder if it's only for the sake of allowing Evans to play his whole career in Tampa that they didn't blow it all up, but since they didn't, they all think they can be good one more year. Well, NFCS good, possibly win the division again. Honestly, if waiting too long ends up being a mistake so be it. If they start losing early they can always start trading for future picks before the trade deadline but I think that if they collapse it'll be late. They have the capacity to win or lose 10 & we really won't know which. The *Steelers* should _definitely_ blow it all up.

Blind Tampa fan… here’s my take… if they’ve been 32nd and made the playoffs both times then how could it get worse? The only way to go is up… also baker’s year was more average than great… and if you say it’s great then you’d have to acknowledge he did that with no run game… let’s say they get better at running it (because they can’t get worse) then baker can easily duplicate a pretty average to ok year…

Here's the thing about Baker. The national perception if him is based on what he did with the Browns. Who are the Browns. Panthers didn't help but they can't even help a #1 overall pick. Baker looked fine with the Rams and Bucs, who are the only teams not named the chiefs to win the SB in the last five years. I understand all of the criticisms outlined in this video but i feel like everything is kind of taken with a glass half empty mindset. Sure Baker could regress but he could also get better. Sure the pass rush is inexperienced but Yaya could totally step up and be a great rusher. Sure Graham Barton is going to be a rookie, but he could definitely improve the run game enough to make the offense less one dimensional. And the secondary was bad last year thanks to Ryan Neal and Zyon, but you didn’t mention the addition of whitehead to pair with winfield. I think people love to count the Bucs out because they weren’t flashy or number one in any aspect last year, but winning the NFC south is still easy and i think they can only go up from here. A 9 or 10 win season with this schedule would be an even bigger achievement than last year. I’ll be coming back to this video when the Bucs win the NFC south for the 4th season in a row.

Titan’s fan here. Heavily disagree with you on this one. Trimming the fat on defense and adding a dude who’s “Robin” on the edge is a huge improvement from the PS dudes they were starting last year. I had Rachaad White in fantasy, and from watching him closely, he is VERY talented. He was getting stuffed at the line because they seemed to only have two diffrent predictable run calls in the playbook, and no one could block in the middle. White reminds me alot of Jaylen Warren on the Steelers in that he runs hard. The key for White last year was getting him in space in the screen game. Also, they did not use Godwin at all passing and I think he still has a lot left in the tank, plus Baker seemed to have great chemistry with his TE’s (I think he threw a TD to the fourth string TE in the Playoff game vs. the eagles?). The defense I’m not certain if, but they were opportunistic last year. This all comes around to pointing out that the Saints are a total mess, the Panthers could improve by 500% and that would result in 5 wins, and I’m not sure about the coach in Atlanta. I picture the final standings to be: 1. Buccs 11-6, 2. Falcons 9-8, 3. Panthers 5-12 and 4. Saints 3-14

Regardless of what happens with the Buccaneers, I don’t think Baker will be the issue. Baker did great last year and with a lot of the same pieces still there like Mike Evans, I do not expect a mid 2024 season to be the fault of Baker. I think the Bucs won’t got as far as they did last year largely because of the losses they have on defense and the lose of their OC Dave Canales. I mean after all, Baker in 2 playoff games last year had almost 700 passing yards 6TDs-2INTs and almost made the NFC Championship, so a mediocre 2024 season (which is likely) shouldn’t be presumed to be because they have Baker.

The run game and outside pass rush have been issues for the past 2-3 years, so I'm not sure why they'd result in issues now. They've improved the O-line (not just Barton) and should have better play-calling on O, especially with not always doing a run up the middle on 1st downs. I think pass rush, head coaching, and schedule strength are the biggest issues, but there's still 9-11 wins on the schedule if they don't start slow.

The main reason is because we have been a bad team for most of these people's life. It is hard to shake this stigma for most people. They just expect us to go back to being the bad Bucs that we have always been. We were only "good" because of Tom Brady, that's how they see it. It is hard for people to understand that Jason Licht/Arians/Bowles have built a winning mentality and we are going to scrap in every game and not roll over like the old Bucs. It's the same reason I laughed at people calling us for the 1st overall pick last year. The talent on this defense alone wasn't bad enough for that. As a Bucs fan I unfortunately have the same concerns about the defense. Weak outside pass rush is especially concerning in a defense designed around getting pressures and forcing turnovers. Hopefully Braswell will step up but even then there are gaps. However offensively there is much more room for hope in my opinion. As talented as 'QB whisperer' Dave Canales was, many Bucs fans were dissatisfied with his rushing play calls. Almost every game his philosophy seemed to be running it up the gut on first down and then giving up. We have a talented back in Rachaad White, and with a new scheme and added rookie talent I believe we will improve in that department. We certainly won't be elite, but I predict 22nd in rushing yards and 20th in ypa. Great video and analysis as per usual.

Very solid analytical breakdown. I have to say most of your concerns are cause for hope to Bucs fans. We had a solid draft to fill in our gaps and those pieces will work very well within Todd Bowles’ Super Bowl Winning defense. Barton + White + Bucky Irving is going to bring a dramatic difference to the run game. The stats you cited for both Yaya Diaby and Kaliyah Kancey came off basically half a year, so both were injured very early. We re-signed Jordan Whitehead to help on defense and Braswell and Tyke Smith will help the edge rush considerably. Liam Cohen seems poised to fine tune the offense and utilize its weapons in ways Canales did not. He had too many cutesy plays with us throwing to Ko Kieft or one of the rookies, completely neglecting Chris Godwin for most of the year. Baker Mayfield has chemistry with Mike Evans and Godwin now and can only improve this season. Barring injuries, we’re going all the way! #GoBucs

Appreciate the coverage on the Bucs. I’m not sure if I would consider the outlook to 2024 as a “let down”. Considering the Bucs are not really mentioned anywhere as a contender post season wise. And most Bucs fans are just happy with the wins that our shit division brought us last year. But in reality, last year, Bucs fans were not happy with canales for the majority of the season. The offensive line play was poor, and we really didn’t utilize players like Chris Godwin like we should have. So offensively I’d argue there is a lot of upside. Defensively, there is not much mention for our defense, but I believe the ceiling is VERY high and the floor is very low. In terms of pass rush, other than Shaq Barrett’s miracle season a few years back, we never really had a “stud pass rusher” in which the defense needed to get to the QB. It has always been Todd Bowles blitz schemes that have carried the team. And I would argue the defensive line is actually faster than it has been for years with its youth. And as we know, for blitzing, speed kills. Yaya Diaby and Kancey I believe are going to shine in this young defense and take the next step, both were rotating or hurt until the final stretch of the season and they seemed to start to adjust to the nfl. If Bowles, arguably the best defensive mind in the nfl, was concerned with his defense…he would’ve addressed it. That being said, I do think the Bucs have enough to muster up a 9/10 win season and to me that would be a success. We need more weapons to be a Super Bowl contender but we are forming a strong 2-3 year base defensively and our offensive line is gonna be astounding in a couple years.

While I do share your concerns, I do think that it would be a disservice to write off the Bucs. I felt the same at this time last year too. They may not be as exciting as, say, the Falcons or possibly even the Panthers, but they still have possibly the best wide receiver group in the division, some good players on defense, and, arguably, the best coach. Now, the NFC South may arguably be the weakest division in the league, but the Bucs may still have a claim to being the team to beat in the division. I certainly trust them more than I do the Saints. Maybe their ceiling isn't as high as Atlanta's, but they could certainly find a way to get to nine wins and a division title or wild card.

To be fair one of the biggest reasons the Lions rushed for so few yards is we had our 3rd and 4th string running backs playing in that game. Gibbs got hurt a couple weeks before and Montgomery got hurt very early in that game.

The Bucs have 2 issues: running game and passing defense ,so if they can fix both issues then they should able to win NFC South and will be back for playoffs. They did have good playoffs run despite they ruined by referees that helped lions to win that game. At this time, they must improve running game that's way Baker's passing game will get better. As for passing defense, it's obvious that they will need from either pass rushers or secondary to fix that. Tbh, it has to be pass rushers since they added rookie Chris Braswell and veteran Randy Gregory ,so they can hope either or maybe Yaya Diaby can set up at ROLB. They didn't take any cbs ,but they did take SS Tykee Smith who will challenge Jordan Whitehead for the job.
@Yallknowtrey
@Yallknowtrey 5 күн бұрын
You are right in some areas and wrong in others yes both are issues but the problem with pass defense is within Todd Bowles' scheme which hasn't changed all year he does the same off 10 yards method with corners and predictable blitzes leaving space for the opposing offense. And I think our pass defense this year will be just fine as long as Todd puts the right guys in on the right plays packages and situations. Also tykee is challenging for Nickelback not safety necessarily but Todd could rotate guys because I believe we have multiple guys at certain positions to make plays

I feel like the Bucs defense should move to a 4-3, atleast to me. Having Vea and Kancey in the inside while having Tryon and Yaya rushing the passer seems like a scary D-Line that would ease the load off of the secondary

I found your analysis somewhat predictable as your knowledge of the Bucs is unimpressive. You also contradict yourself in the video when discussing qb play. You expect Baker to regress inspite of him having more experience with his receivers, a gelling OL with Barton anchoring and a better play caller in Liam Coen. Your evaluation of Bowles is predictably biased and your comparison of this team to the Seahawks is just lazy. The run game will improve because the OL is going into its 2nd year of playing together. The schedule is just as tough as last year. Your evaluations of the pass rush doesn’t include Bowles many and varied blitz packages. Your analysis is not unlike most main stream pundits that you’ve probably listened to. Go Bucs!!

I like how you didn't even mention the Bucs getting Jordan Whitehead back to create the best Safety Duo in the league when talking about the Bucs secondary. That will free up Tykee Smith to play Nickel alongside Izien. or possibly outside corner. Between those 3, QB's are gonna be scared to throw more than 10 yards because you're asking to get picked off by one of them.

Bucs will win the division for the 4th straight year. You mentioned Barton is a good pick but said he’s not gonna single handedly improve the line. What you failed to mention is that OT Tristan Wirfs is one of the best Tackles in the league, definitely the most versatile as he made a successful transition from RT to LT. Also, RT Luke Geodoke is also a great RT and paired together with Wirfs is actually the BEST OT duo in the NFL. Plug in Barton to anchor a middle along side 2nd year and improved RG Cody Mauch (the toothless wonder), this OL is low key gonna be one of the best lines in the league and will probably be the staple of the team for years to come. Yaya Diaby was named the starter halfway through the season and got 5 of his 7.5 sack in the last half of the season. Pretty good for a rookie and WILL improve to passed 10 sacks this season (baring injury). New OC from the McVay system will improve the run game since Rashaad White was just 10 yards short of 1000 rush yards but did have 1400 rush/rec yards. I do think Baker’s interceptions will go up a little as the new system will have him take some chances, but I also think he’ll have higher passing yards and TDs this season. Bucs will be. 10 win team and NFC South Division Champs 4x straight.

So your video is based on last years secondary. The rush would not have not been bad and would have been better if the middle of the field secondary had not gotten beat early. That is where you are wrong. That is why the bucs drafted a nickel corner instead of an outside corner. They also strengthened the nickel and dime coverages with veteran FAs, and they went out and got their starting strong safety back. The Bucs secondary will be more difficult to throw the crossing routes and over the middle passes on. That killed them on 3rd downs last year. You are correct, the edge position will need to be watched, but they are very young at edge, and not old at all. That could be a weakness. But they do have speed at that position. The players they have there have interesting qualities: speed to power guy, and then a power to speed guy. I have a feeling this will be a better defense.

A few factors you didn't include: - Vita Vea has lost weight and looks faster in camp. This should improve the pass rush. - The return of Jordan Whitehead will help the secondary. - Jalen McMillan is looking good in camp and will likely take Trey Palmer's WR3 spot. So, he will be a bigger impact than you suggested. Additionally, Luke Goedeke is solid, and Tristan Wirfs is Great... Cody Mauch is steadily improving... so yes, the addition of Graham Barton will improve the o-line.

*_This_** is* the kind of breakdown I subscribed to this channel for. You really went into the details & found a ton other _analysts_ would certainly never think to look for. Why can't you do this for Justin Fields? I'm a terrible researcher & _I_ can find So Much Evidence for how the coaches, play-calls & roster failed him just by stumbling around blindly. Let's start with just things said that are suspicious because I've already linked the video evidence multiple times & you can always ask for it again if you care to follow up on this. 1) Matt Eberflus boasted about how He Decides what plays to limit the offense to. This is peculiar on at least two levels because one, why boast about being involved in a terrible defense & two, why specifically about limiting it? Never mind that he has zero experience in this. 2) This backfired on him because there was a game where Fields would stop himself throwing to Wide-Open Receivers that Not One Person thought at the time was due to Fields. He was mid-throw each time, then saw something, shuddered, then tucked the ball & ran. If he had been concussed, there was no other sign of it, but here's the thing: not _one staffer_ thought to examine him in the blue tent? That means they _knew_ he *wasn't concussed.* How can they possibly Have Know he wasn't concussed Without Checking? Because he was carrying out the plays As Called. He was Ordered To not throw to certain receivers on certain plays. Or as you call it, _"Fields_ holds onto the ball too long." How would *you* know? How would you know that as on those plays in the first game this started that there's any open receivers or that they are not ones he was ordered not to throw to by his Own Head Coach 'limiting' the offense? This was week 4 or 5. Fields *called **_out_* his coaches, diplomatically not by name & said they were confusing him after week 7. What happened weeks 8-10? The Bears led the entire NFL in offense (now Pay Attention because this fact is dismissed completely, too easily) by *using different plays than they had used before.* Baker is being touted as being resurrected by just one coach, Cousins finally started coming through in the clutch with the Vikings calling different plays, Goff was resurrected with different coaching. Why do you _REFUSE TO LOOK AT_ what was different in those games? It wasn't just the designed QB rushes. (This is where the videos would normally come in handy because you could see the contrast between how the o-line & WRs played in those games versus the ones where Eberlus limited them). It's more than three games. The game Just Before the 12-10 win over the Vikings in '23 & 4 games after also featured these same plays. There are 8 games Fields completed with one set of plays versus 22 others, *plenty* to compare without even having to dig up what Eberflus, Fields & whoever else did or didn't say 'boo.' For instance, how is the silence the Bears responded to fields calling out his own coaches with Not Suspicious? What team owner doesn't want to know what coaches are wasting his $ confusing the QB? Why didn't the GM who might have to trade a franchise QB because of this not try to find out who was at fault? Can you imagine Justin _Herbert_ saying his coaches were confusing him & all media, fans & analysts not thinking any more of it two minutes later? There seems to be a Silent Agreement to just blame Fields that is not worthy of analysts, that's for effing sure.

So many variables with players rise and fall year to year. This video is too much into modern statistics. What matters is wins, thats it. For example... . They had 23rd ranked offense and 23rd ranked defense last year... yet they won 5 out of 6 games or something to finish the year and played well against the Eagles. Buccs have so many young, talented players. Mayfield has spunk and had better QB rating last year than Mahomes, Josh Allen and Herbert. If Mayfield continues to limit turnovers, and Rachaad White increases his rushing numbers (something quite) possible. They could easily win the division again with 9-10 wins!

If my memory is right, NFC south tends to be one of the most unpredictable divisions in football, where teams often go from winning divisions to missing the playoffs and high picks to playoffs, so bucs overachieving last year and winning division to missing the playoffs sounds about right, plus they playing loaded AFC west and what should be tricky NFC east versus last year rebuilding AFC south and NFC north. Yes, they did beat the eagles in the playoffs, but that team had more problems down the stretch than maybe any other team, and Eagles couldn't get out of their own way.

I don't feel like going through everything here. I'm kind of waiting for training camp/preseason to see how well the Bucs are picking up the new O from the Bucs new O-Coordinator. I'm more worried about a slow start, especially in week 2 against the Lions. And, the schedule is my second . . . in fact, close second . . . worry for the Bucs. The Bucs could be a perfectly good team and still have trouble making it to the playoffs this year. Part of it will come down to injuries. But, the schedule again . . . I usually don't worry about the teams on the schedule. Usually, hard teams in the previous year go down as they get raided by other teams. Easy teams might get better, but chemistry issues. But the teams on this years Bucs schedule did not get tripped up. The Lions in particular got better imo. I'm tempted to say a lot of the other first place teams on the Bucs schedule just stayed about the same. Depending on how the injuries go, I'll worry about these other teams. - Coach Bowles is a good coach He knows what he's doing; he knows what he's seeing and what needs to be done. But, for various reasons, the cap, players going down/retiring(Ryan Jenson/Marpet), some things not quite working out(safety Ryan Neal last year), Tom Brady's wife, you name it, something has derailed. Okay, he got safety Ryan Neal wrong last year. The safety position has been remarkably hard to fill after Whitedead left. Now, we have a glut at safety. At some point, things will click.

Okay - I'll say one thing since I did kind of bring up one issue that even I'm worried about. Whether the Bucs are going get the new O down good enough early, or later in the season. Here's just one thing - Baker Mayfield already knows new Bucs O-Coordinator's O. He's already seen it back in his Rams days. Baker Mayfield might actually be the Bucs secret weapon to learning the new offense quickly, and being ready . . . week 1.

Shaq Barrett and Joe Tryon-Shenka were the starters, neither were productive. That is why Barrett is gone and JTS is on double-secret probation. Bucs signed a FA and a 2nd round draft pick to battle for starter’s job opposite Diaby. And there is adequate backup depth at the position.

We are good enough to beat some of the best teams in the league it's just down to Bowles I trust Liam Coen because he's done great things while at Kentucky such as breaking records and having creativity in play calling if he translates that to the NFL with way better weapons there's no reason we can't upgrade in a lot of categories offensively and I'm predicting we'll be a top 20 rushing offense at the least but Todd has to hold his end of the deal
