In series 3, Ten said something like, "Some people live more in 20 years than others do in 80. It's not the time that matters. It's the person." And I always felt that applied so well to his version of the Doctor. He lived so intensely for, in the context of the show, only the blink of an eye compared to most of his other lives. His run was defined by glorious and passionate and devastating emotional highs and lows, and I felt everything right along with him, through every victory and loss and tragic mistake. There's something to love about every era and I'm excited for what's to come, but Ten will always be my Doctor.

*"I don't want to go."* I cried. You really felt how much he loved the show and how sad it was that he was leaving. His control room being destroyed was also interesting and symbolic. Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi were perfect follow ups to David Tennant, though.

The Queen Vic in EastEnders was burning at the same time for the same reason. A move to HD for the BBC's flagship shows, so better, sharper sets were required. Still, no one can deny that here in this scene, it added to the drama and the sense of tragedy and 'end of an era ' alongside Murray Gold's 'Vale Decem' ( 'Goodbye, Ten' in Latin).

@@cunningsmile4166 but the thing is there would have been a plot twist with that to where all the adventures Amy had with the 10th doctor was actually before he met her and when he crash lands in her garden that’s when he dies so all of the adventures she would have had would be before he regenerates it reminded me a bit of the doctor and river but ultimately that didn’t happen

Not enough people appreciate how well the drastic change in tone when Matt appears is. It really emphasises what 10 was worried about becoming a completely different man. 11 stopped thinking about Donna, Rose, etc to the extent 10 did all the time.
@jiro1281
@jiro1281 Жыл бұрын
@KVAcedo27 I agree, he definitely didn't forget them, and deep down knows he didn't want to, he knows what kind of impact they had on his life, especially Rose. Also if you seen in the 50th special, when the War Doctor says "Bad Wolf I could kiss you!" after 10 asks him what he just said, 11 does too, but it is more subtle, and you see a shot of him simply looking up with a sly smile. That was a VERY good subtle scene showing he still holds Rose dear to his heart(s). She's one of the people the Doctor will never forget no matter how many times he/she regenerates, their love was too intense and their ending too bittersweet for him.

I've been doing a rewatch of the revival series since Eccleston recently, and you can REALLY feel the whiplash in energy between Tennant's more dramatic Doctor and Smith's low-key himbo Doctor between The End of Time and Eleventh Hour. It must be a matter of minutes to hours at most between 10th's visit to Rose and 11th's eating fish fingers and custard.

Man. I hope whoever actually came up with the regeneration idea for Dr. Who got a huge raise. The Regeneration idea was the most brilliant idea in TV history for a show. Not only can they tell stories with multiple different actors and have it make sense in the story, but they can make the regeneration scenes at the end of each Doctor's era emotional rollercoasters. They can easily just ride on one doctor until either they get tired or the audience gets tired, and then just switch out the doctor and refresh the entire series at a moment's notice.

I don’t think there’s any more perfect meta way to end this regeneration than with the second to final line “This song is ending but the story never ends.” Sigma had been using the metaphor of a song ending for a while which we assumed was an analogy for the Doctor’s life and how he would soon die… but then we discover that this ending song is only one part of a larger whole that will go on and on forever. It’s heartwarming and bittersweet all at the same time, and I couldn’t have picked a more perfect line if I tried. ❤

I don't think they planned this but its interesting to think about. 10 was one of the only doctors who really didn't want to go. His build up to regeneration was symbolised as his death. Showing how drastically different he was from previous doctors. It's no coincidence that he's now back with us. Perhaps 10 is the doctors true self and that's why he came back. Perhaps his final regeneration.

Though not as accomplished a sfx feat as Ecclestone to Tennant I'd argue. This one's quite sudden. (Which, as far as the narrative is concerned, is appropriate. We're watching a Doctor who would rather not regenerate go through that very traumatic process.) But I like that the moment of transition is given more character though, through Tennant and Smith's conveyance of great pain. 'Rewrite every cell in your body? Doesn't that hurt?' 'Oh, yeah. It hurts. 'That last body of yours, was he okay in the end?' 'It always hurts.'

2:12 is one of the coolest regeneration shots in DW history. The way fire and sparks are literally streaming across the TARDIS floor and panels, the same way regeneration beams are streaming from the Doctor. A man dying in the flames of his home, only to be reborn like a phoenix from the ashes. And don't even get me started on Murray Gold's incredible Vale Decem, or the silent look the Doctor gives his TARDIS, and the man himself David Tennant saying so so much in just 6 words and facial expressions. Call me a sucker for melodrama, but all regenerations should be this dramatic and explosive in my opinion. Go out with a literal bang.

Matt Smith had some big shoes to fill after David Tennant, but he absolutely nailed it.

10 on 10 for Ten's regeneration, you just couldn't get any more emotional or epic, I remember the whole country stopped for an hour on New year's Day, no doctor before or since has held the public in the palm of their hand. I didn't want you to go either! No one did!

This is still to this day my favourite regeneration, fitting that it's for my favourite Doctor. I'm looking forward to what Russell is planning for the future of the show, though I doubt he can top his previous work, as it is just a masterpiece.

I think I saw this in my granny Joan’s house in the background. Idk if it was a re run or if it was on New Year’s Day cuz it’d make sense why we’d be there on that day. But it must’ve been a long long time ago because she’s no longer with us. I love Doctor who so it gives me a kind of comfort she might’ve been somewhat involved with my familiarity with it. RIP.

I know he's only gonna be back for 3 special episodes, but I hope he gets to stick around in-universe for awhile, instead of it just being a short storyline. 10 (14?) deserves to stick around longer this time. The whole reason he was so sad to go here is because he was literally the shortest lived Doctor ever, only about 4 years in-universe. Hopefully the specials aren't all an interconnected, continuous storyline, to leave the opportunity for Tennant to be the Doctor in other specials a possibility

This truly marked the end of the 2000s decade. The CGI for the regeneration was beautiful, especially seeing the scale of it around the entire Tardis console room. My only nitpick is that the wavy lines covered the Doctor's face too much that it was difficult to see the faces change from David to Matt. Nevertheless, Matt dominated the ending with arguably the best post-regeneration scene from an acting and production perspective.

I remember as a kid feeling so many emotions. Happiness to see a new doctor, sadness to see him go, it was the first show to ever make me cry. Now, being 17, the emotions are even bigger. Sadness, not because he regenerated, but because this incarnation went through so much, losing Rose, getting her back, losing her to himself but not really, making Donna have to forget all the adventures, the Master returning but then killing himself, then to come back and take over the world. I mean 10 had a sad life, and the way David Tennant was able to make us, the audience, cry as he leaves, is what makes this seen even sadder. I love 10's incarnation :')

This scene was so good that for like ten years it tricked me into remembering The End of Time as a great story. It’s... not, but this scene is still unbelievably well executed.

I especially love the moment when The Doctor enters the TARDIS and he takes a moment where he leans on the door to sort of get ready or seem to accept what's about to happen. Then he looks at his glowing hand; this is unavoidable now. He then takes another moment by the console where he seems to accept that this is happening and takes off. He walks away from the controls; he's done what he need to. But then he realised "wait, I'm actually not ready", "I don't want to go" And it's at this moment that the regeneration hits the point of no return and reaches its climax as tears well up in his eyes as he is forced to change before he's ready. Absolute 10/10. Best regeneration EVER.
