Re: the obvious "rubber face" and the stop-motion robot near the end - this first movie was made for only a little over 6 million dollars (equal to about 17 million today). Not a microbudget, but also really small when it comes to creating top-tier special effects. Happily the second movie got a MASSIVELY bigger budget, and so they were able to make everything look exponentially more convincing.

The original Terminator wasn't budgeted to be a blockbuster, it was intended as a low grade sci-fi variant of the slasher films.

As far as the automatic weapons go, this would've been before the 1986 closing of the machine gun registry, so while machine guns would've still required a tax stamp, semi auto guns would've been easier to convert to full auto, and the Terminator would've had advanced knowledge of how to work with guns. I think he got normal guns at the store, and then tinkered with them to best suit his demands after the fact.

At the beginning, Reese tells Sarah that the Terminator is a "Cyberdyne Systems Model 101", and at the end, the sign outside the factory said . . . "Cyberdyne Systems". So the story is a double paradox.

The First Aid Kit came from the trunk of the car they pushed off the road. If you look closely, you see them take it The full sized Terminator Skeleton we see in the climax was made of steel and weighed roughly 800 lbs. Took 4 men to move it. This was actually kind of a big problem. It was a miscommunication with the props department. It was supposed to be made of something much lighter and painted chrome. This movie was rather low budget, and much of it was shot without permits. So it was often, get in, get their shot, split before the cops showed up. This was impossible to do with a prop you absolutely cannot move quickly with. They actually did get caught by the cops in one of the last scenes shot. So naturally, James Cameron lied his ass off, claiming they were just film students who didn't know they needed permits.

1. Linda Hamilton ROCKED. She's really built in T2. 2. Lance Henriksen/Vukovich and Michael Biehn/Reese also played in Aliens as Bishop and Hicks respectively. 3. The late Bill Paxton is the only actor whose characters have died in The Terminator, Alien and Predator series. 4. If this weren't a movie the ammunition would not have been left on the counter in the gun shop. 5. Ginger's boyfriend Matt must be a lousy lay if she needs her music when they rock and roll. 6. It's cool how so many people freak out when the eye operation goes down 7. Cooler? Watching people overthink the situations.😎 That said, overthinking gets the gold star for finding out "Who's your daddy"😍😋 8. The movie you saw was Terminator II Judgement Day"

"I'll be back." I highly recommend watching the extended version of Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) with the definitive ending. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that version and adds context that was originally taken out, anyone that says otherwise is pushing an agenda. Fun Fact: One afternoon during a break in filming, Arnold Schwarzenegger went into a restaurant in downtown L.A. to get some lunch and realized all too late that he was still in Terminator makeup - with a missing eye, exposed jawbone and burned flesh. Juice Dodged Fact: O.J. Simpson was considered for the Terminator, but the producers feared he was "too nice" to be taken seriously as a cold-blooded killer. Ironic. Director Cameo Fact: Near the beginning of the movie, when Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) receives a message on her answering machine breaking her date, the voice on the machine is James Cameron's.

To answer your questions. They could have been told/programmed with the knowledge of how to navigate the the 1980s. Phone books, ect... The bomb worked because it was inside the terminator, that is a force multiplier, as opposed to just pushing the metal back you are now pushing it apart and also attacking the smaller join pieces As for the first aid kit, it was one of two things Reese took out of the trunk and he supposedly got at some point before finding Sarah while getting guns and everything else, which makes sense..

The difference between living then and now is you had to let your imagination work, now everyone is more cynecal and doesn't even allow the imaginative part of the brain to work. That is the humor in watching these younger reactions for me. The story itself and the characters where more interesting than trying to point holes in everything we saw on the screen. IT A MOVIE, not a docuseries on evading AI. Good reaction none the less.

I agree. The philosophy and way the characters develop, the What if?s are the fun part about every story. The relationship between the two mains is special, although a lot of people do not get it today. They find the idea of people falling in love overnight ludicrous. But what do people do when something big is about to happen and there is little time? Right, they draw closer together. Kyle had been hanging out with a legend all his life and the woman who created him became the prototype of all women to him. Sarah was living in a world she did not fit in, a girl looking for a purpose in a city full of party people, she knew she was different. Kyle gave depth to her life, made her feel worthy, unconditionally. He would have died for her even if she had rejected him. To her, that made him irreplaceable.

23:45, In the novelization for Terminator it's explained that Sarah does tell John who Kyle Reese is. When John comes to power he finds Kyle and assigns him to a unit close to him so he is more or less safe. John never discloses to Kyle their familial relationship. However, right before Kyle is sent back in time John comes into the room where he is being prepped. He makes Kyle recite the speech that he will later give to Sarah in the tunnel until he knows it verbatim. John then stands and looks at Kyle for a beat and embraces him fiercely. John Connor is a very charismatic but stoic military leader so this is totally out of character for him. Then before Kyle can really say anything Connor walks out of the room. Later after Kyle is sent back to 1984, one of military advisors asks "Sir what happens once he gets back to 1984". John tells the assembled soldiers and technicians that Sgt. Reese completed his mission in safeguarding his mother's life and dies in the process. Everyone goes quiet and the advisor says "Reese was a good soldier" It is at this moment that John Connor breaks into tears and tells his men "Yes and he was also my father". I really wish they had filmed that scene and put it somewhere in the movie series.

Fun fact: during pre-production, James Cameron was going around saying he was ripping off stories written by Harlan Ellison, which is exactly what this is. Rather than being the product of an overseas fever dream, the plot is taken from “Soldier from Tomorrow.” However, he lends style, heart, and humor in a way uniquely his. So there’s that. It would be illegal for an 80s gunshop to offer him an Uzi. Certainly not no waiting period. It's an NFA item... one of the most heavily regulated items that's still technically legal. We're talking up to a year waiting to get your ATF paperwork back, after you hsve an extensively in depth background check, and even then they track you essentially forever.

You do not have to worry about contradictions or Canon issues across this property.... Terminator Is a time travel Franchise. Everything coexists, movies, comics, TV shows, novels, games. The time line looks like a hairball coughed up by the Cheshire cat.

Although Terminator and Alien are excellent movies, Terminator 2 and Aliens dont just prove sequels can be as good as the originals. But exceed them. These exceptions are, of course, two of the best movies ever though

phone books are not that ancient man. And as a robot, he would have been programed with various data points regarding the era he was traveling too, including phonebooks which are just analog human directories.

Why does someone from the future knowing about phone books seem odd to you? It’s history to them. Don’t you know about how things worked 50 years ago?

In the 80s, yes you could get an uzi in California. You just don't get it from the store.

Yeah, the industrial factory scenes in both this and the sequel are highly inaccurate, like they are in most movies. I worked in a factory keeping automated machinery like this running for over 16 years. Sarah knowing exactly which button to push was only the tip of the iceberg. The most ridiculous thing in this and other movies is the whole trope on how you can push one button or power up one breaker and the whole operation starts up. That would be an OSHA nightmare. Even if the workers leaving had just disconnected the main breaker instead of properly shutting down each station individually, restoring the power wouldn't just start everything back up. Does your TV come on or your microwave start cooking as soon as you plug it into the outlet? Industrial machinery has even more elaborate start up routines and safety interlocks to prevent accidental start up and cycling. Entertaining, yes. Accurate, NO.!
