In a recent book Lucius steps on a land mine and pops up in a manufactora a few weeks later on a separate planet. When he looked at the face of the worker who build the land mine he asked “You actually enjoyed this?!” Meaning that there’s no way to actually kill Lucius apart from throwing him into a black hole with yourself shortly thereafter.

Lucius is one of those interesting characters who is clearly daemonic in nature without being a daemon prince. I rather suspect he's the equivalent of a favoured daemonette, in that when he dies he gets sent into the Immaterium and in the event his killer feels pride in it he can worm his way in through that gap. This also neatly explains why Slaanesh could just straight up bring him back, because he's more daemon than mortal. Of course, that leads to questions regarding the effect of Blanks on him and his capabilities. If, as I hypothesise, he is more daemon than mortal he should become nigh-powerless as the warp surrounding him is becalmed.

If you knew how it works, you could just fly into a star and BOOM no more eternal

A raven guard legionary named Nykona sharrowkyn..killed Lucian in single combat and told Lucian before the killing blow, "I take no more pleasure killing you then putting down a ravenous dog" I believe this is where this power of absorbing enemies that take pleasure in killing Lucian comes from..

Maybe we shoud pit him against Angron, it will end with either no more Lucius or with the fallen Primarch finally getting the dead he so much desires. It's a Win-Win.

Lucius was a fantastic character as originally written by Abnett himself in the first book of the HH. It was the future authors of the series that bastardized his character

Everyone saying you can kill him for good if you feel pity rather than pride, but imagine just feeling *disgust* for the guy, like just the same sort of visceral "Kill It With Fire" reaction to finding a giant cockroach in your bathroom. When it's over you're not happy or proud that you finally killed it, you're nauseated that you had to be in proximity to it at all.

I think it would be easy to game his power of immortality. Raise some astartes to be master swordsman and to venerate Lucius. Their mission is to do the former master a final mercy, eternal death. Have them duel him one by one till one succeeds. If there is signs that Lucius is returning, either try an kill the host prior by a no name guardsmen. The remove the guardsmen has should engender no more body hopping. If he somehow does, he can only be as strong as his vessels or stronger but he can't just become a demon marine immediately. Then have a never ending line of guardsmen dual and kill that weakened Lucius. If he does become stronger or as strong as before, repeat the process with the trained space Marines. The goal is to contain Lucius' soul or finally defeat him with no pride.

Would'nt this, by extension mean that every face in Lucius armor is a constant reminder of his failures. Eventually it will mean nothing to kill someone so.... pitiful.

What this also means is that Lucius can never feel the satisfaction after training and then overcoming foes who were previously would beat him consistently.

And slaanesh is ridiculously broad in their definition of "takes satisfaction from the deed." Considering he's taken over both a guy who built a landmine and a Necron who isn't even capable of feeling satisfaction, the limits on his resurrections are pretty much nonsense.

The best way to beat Lucius is to knock him out, tie him up and then yeet him into a deep, dark hole where everyone will forget about him and seal it up with Anti-warp Necron nonsense.

What if Lucius is killed in such a way that his killer is completely unaware that he killed him? Example : An inquisitor calls down an exterminatus on a planet where chaos forces have gathered. The inquisitor only knows that chaos forces were on the verge of conquering the planet. He doesn’t know that Lucius is on the planet, or even know who Lucius is. He is completely unaware that he killed Lucius. Or if a random guardsman sets up some land mines somewhere. The guardsman is killed by chaos forces. Sometime later, Lucius sets off the mine and is killed. How would it work when the guardsman who set the mines was already killed by something else?

And even if they take no pride in killing him he still comes back.
