Depression is a monster, it's relentless and doesn't discriminate. Economic status doesn't matter. I've struggled with it for 40 years or better and can honestly say the only thing that's kept me from checking out is I know it would devastate my family and they might not ever get over it. I thank God for my family every day and pray that I'll find a way out of the darkness, for their sake as much as for mine.

I beg to differ; the elite have way more opportunities and tendencies for hormonal and dopamine issues. They get constant worship like praise and the public loves them feeding their narcissism then it crashes because they can’t have any peace. Normal everyday people don’t have such extreme highs and lows making treatment more viable. Truth is you just need to work on being the best version of yourself every day without thinking you are some gift to humanity. I bet this guy is full of 💩 and is just playing a character

Studying Eastern Philosophy helped me get over my first major bout of depression at age 21. Have only been depressed once since then and it was outside of my control, son's mom took him from me after I raised him solo the past 4 years. Another thing I think helped me was mowing lawns, you have all the time in the world to think about your mistakes and your life when mowing lawns all day with nothing but your thoughts. My mom also picked me up an hour late after school everyday, so after all the kids went home, i just had me and my thoughts. Kids/people in general need less distractions and more meditation time.

Also, Lamictal which made a big difference. ( I have never been diagnosed with bipolar or had a manic episode) I think severe depression has to be treated on an individual basis. Find a church: Calvinist, Presbyterian, Baptist, even Evangelist or Catholics/Orthodox will do. While there, find new friends, that respect and value for whom you are. (hypocrisy is everywhere even among "brothers and sister" though, so you will have to deal with that eventually) - Build up you own relation with God .(that will be bumpy, believe you me, but do not wory He has patience, lol) Start loving yourself so you could also love and respect all your neighbors. Do not become a weakling though, lol, but wear the Armor of God with deference and ready to fight for Good all the time. - Even as a Christian, You could remain an Agnostic, but stay away from atheism: atheism is just shitonfire with a pretense of "muh-intelectual"

Having a regular job is seriously underrated. I have been through periods of unemployment and those are rough, not because of financials but no schedule and too much free time. And celebrities basically go through periods of unemployment as he said constantly up and down no wonder that almost all of them go crazy at one point in their life as he said and self medicate. I feel most of these people if they experienced "normal" jobs they would never go back to celebrity life.

That's a solid way of looking at it. Just don't be apart of a job that makes you not want to wake up in the morning and want to complain about it when you leave it. I found remote work from home jobs the best and the right fit. I don't value work to the point I wanna be labeled as a career guy but I padded my resume enough to get good job opportunities now remotely and it helps me focus on the more important stuff in my life because it doesn't feel like work defines me anymore. It's liberating.

The dopamine thing is so true. I think a lot of people who suffer from depression and mental health issues have low dopamine levels (either inherently or from other chemicals lowering their baselines). So you can easily get sucked into a vicious chicken-or-egg cycle of chasing dopamine hits that end up giving heavier crashes because they in turn deplete your natural dopamine and leave you feeling worse than you did before. I had that struggle with alcohol for years. It's that cliche of "chasing the dragon" - it's very real but it's not just for traditional addicts. Smart phones are doing it to people now without them even realizing.

Ketamine infusion theraphy saved my life. I was depressed and anxious for decades. Nothing conventional gave me significant relief. One treatment with ketamine stopped my pathological anxiety and suicidal thoughts within a few hours. That was in 2018, and I'm still well. The treatment healed something. I'm also autistic (I'm an Aspie) so the fact I'm neuro-diverse might have played a role in the drug's effecacy for me. There's over 20 years of scientific evidence behind it, starting with a small study at Yale in the late 90s. Problem is, ketamine is off-patent, making it a threat to big pharma. Infusion theraphy requires an IV, something few psychiatrists are trained to adminster. My doctor was an anethesiologist. Ketamine has a success rate of between 70 to 90% even where other tretaments failed. If you or someone you care about suffer from depression, I urge you to research and consider it. It was a miracle for me, and has helped many others. Peace.

I come from Eastern europe where unless you have something really traumatic that happened people suck it up and go through the hardships. Not trying to undermine anyone's struggle but it is weird that in in such a force of a country like the USA you have so many broken people and people who tend to brag on how they are broken. Think its speaks the volume about the society

Self medicating sucks. I’m 37 and my job really helps keep me focused but when I’m not working I’m self medicating with alcohol. The depression just hits me out of nowhere. I’m financially stable with assets, have a great girlfriend but the better part of 15 years I felt like I wasted on my ex wife. That relationship was so toxic and I did everything right but she just fucked me over so hard. I have gone the last 5 years beating myself up for allowing her to take the better years of my life. I’m currently working on diet, exercise and abstaining from alcohol. Discipline is incredibly difficult especially when you get side swiped by depression.

I can see how one can get into a rut of self-medicating. There's a reason why stage performers can have incredible highs and lows. I do local theater (sometimes show after show whilst working full time) and the dopamine hits are great, even in front of 50 people for a few weekends -- I have had severe depression after shows close, and I can only imagine how hard it is on the big stage. I eventually get over it after a few weeks, but it happens every time and I dread it every time.

Best advice i recently got as a person in a tough mental situations is this -> no one is born a loser, that is an acquired mentality. Dismantle your ideas, separate those that are in your best interest and those that are not, stick to those that are and eventually you will become and feel better. It is haaard work, requires attention, requires effort, requires dedication, requires courage and discipline, but it is doable by ANYONE. Good luck! P.s. skilled therapist helps quite a lot

Exactly. He literally just explained how a $250,000 facility could get you better mental healthcare than the rest of America could even think to afford. It's great he got the help he needed and all....but to lack self-awareness to the degree that you literally think anyone struggling can just walk into a place like that? That's a real slap in the face to every middle class family that are already on their 12th mental breakdown with zero assistance while this guy gets pristine healthcare the minute he gets his first one 🤦 You're right. Money CAN buy happiness, and it's the very reason every other American citizen is struggling to find any semblance of happiness or will to live when they can't even afford to have someone listen to them for once. It's absolutely both scary and depressing for the human race, and should worry everyone.
