As a goalie dad who played defense his entire life, and who has become the de facto goalie coach for every team my son plays for, I really appreciate the content and the production quality. Please keep it up, they are excellent.

This is literally the same thing as me. Played defense for most of my life and started playing goalie and love it but I’m very sloppy. There’s so much I’ve improved upon since I’ve started watching these videos

Also a goalie who played defense all my life, I really like learning the fundamentals I missed out on not starting early in life.

As a goalie who never played hockey before 40, I find this equally useful!

I have to say, one of the most useful things is actually seeing Nick do some of these movements like RVH or grabbing an edge from a push WITHOUT PADS. Like it's so much easier to understand the body mechanics without the pads obscuring what a goalie's legs and hips are doing. E.g., at 2:04 Nick does some slides, and what I could see clearly is how his lead (sliding) leg stays flared while the weight is balanced over the upper leg/knee. Then the goalie in yellow does some slides and doesn't grab their edge as emphatically *because* (I'm guessing) their slide leg is angled differently. Their lower leg isn't flared, it's more behind the body and at some times the knee is farther in the direction they're moving than their foot, so it has to travel several inches before it's in position to grab the edge; their weight has to transfer further back towards center/the push leg so their leg can arc outward to plant.

Great video.. love your style of coaching, the setup, the intensity, the explanation. The onsite video review is an awesome touch and the understanding that some ppl are just visual learners.. on a side note any serious athlete in my opinion should be recording, reviewing and breaking down every game and practice to visually see your mistakes, understand what you need to do to correct them and then practice implementing those corrections on your own so next practice your not worrying about last practices mistakes..

Playing roller for decades forced me to skate and get up quickly. Made transitioning to ice easy as I had quick feet. The point of getting to the spot before the shooter is ready is so true. Skate more. It’s easy way to improve.

People have different styles I think it’s good to drill everything leaning absorbing it and sticking them arms out I used to play ball hockey with no chest protector so I made sure I caught it or blocked it. I’m sure there’s old school road ball hockey goalies that did it as well

3:50 why do you say to go nice and slow versus getting there quick? Sometimes in games i think i have time then a guy can get a easy wrap around.
@Dahanhockey
@Dahanhockey 3 жыл бұрын
Carefully watch the rebound and see how the puck ends up being propelled away from behind the net hence the lack of danger of a wrap-around. Tracking pucks out (after the save/missed shot) to then scan the upcoming play takes precedent. I recommend you always get back on your feet while assessing the play and then making a decision. Going back to this particular point of the video, the save was good due to the rebound going in a safe place, which earns you time to recover slow and focus on breathing and scanning to not be out of energy at the end of the game. Battle Hard when needed - Recover Easy when deserved.

ive been playing goalie for about 2 years now on ice and in a c/b league my biggest issue is skating/positing other than this video what else can i do or practice to improve on that i feel like my tracking and rebounds are okay definitely will be watching more videos to improve from your channel cause its great to see and hear how to improve it but my biggest concern right now is my skating ability i feel like im standing on my head to make saves when i feel like it should be easier. any tips or other videos in your channel that would mainly help me with that please let me know

I don't understand the three components of positioning. Squareness is clear but aren't depth and cutting off the angle the same thing?
@Dahanhockey
@Dahanhockey 3 жыл бұрын
You have to first get in the middle of the angle before cutting it down when gaining your depth. So when we say cutting off the angle, we mean getting in the shooting lane, then we take more space away from the shooter by coming forward.

Love the positive reinforcement, love the atmosphere you create, not in love with the sales pitch. But I get it, your trying to sell your services as a goalie coach. I’m sure your reputation proceeds you within your community. So, are you trying to recruit nationally with your videos, or are you trying to help goalies improve who watch your videos? Also, a huge problem with goaltending that I rarely see a coach address, that goes all the way to the NHL, is teaching tendies how to play the puck. Pick any random NHL game and watch the best goalies in the world misplay a puck that costs them a goal. No one ever teaches us how to help our team form plays. They teach stick handling, they teach passing, but they don’t teach why or how to communicate with the D.

I'll never understand Butterfly. Seems like a waste of a lot of energy and leave a lot of net open. Works if you are tall enough to cover top of net. Other than that, seems wrong.
