I had read that off camera, Shemp was actually the funniest of the 3 brothers, while strangely, Curly was rather withdrawn and awkward around people, unless he was with his Brothers or Larry. 🤔

What I appreciate about Shemp is that he didnt try to just be a Curly 2. He had his own gimmicks and bits that made him unique and memorable.

As a kid growing up in the '70's and watching the 3 Stooges EVERY morning before school, I was always partial to Shemp (yes, loved Curly too) for his comedic "timing." The drink scene in 'Who Done It' with Christine McIntyre is priceless. Just her expressions w Shemp like 'this guy is certifiable.'

A great Stooge and arguably the first "Third Stooge." Some claim that Curly (Jerome Howard) was the first, but in reality, Curly only joined after Shemp left to pursue his own career in theater and movies. Later, when Curly was no longer able to perform, Shemp came back. Why the name "Shemp?" His true name "Shmuel" after his grandfather, was pronounced Samuel. His parents and brothers (Moe and Curly) called him "Sam", later changed to "Shemp." A known hypochondriac, he was thrown out of the Army because he wet the bed. I have studied the Three Stooges for years. Largely due to the fact I got to meet Moe when I was very young and he "poked" me in the eyes. A core memory for me.
