Well, there is another bonkers round. and it sits at 3.0. and its a 76mm APHE round. its on the P40 italian tank. doesn't have a lot of pen but it has enough explosive mass to rival the bonkers round of the Tiger H1. imagine. 280+ grams of tnt equivalent. at 3.0

Exactly. The threshold of overpressure TNT equivalent is about 160g or around. Anything higher than that will create a red shockwave when exploded. When the fuze is triggered and the warhead exploded, if any important component in the compartment gets hit by the explosive stream (the orange beams), it is marked as overpressure to the compartment and any crew in it dies immediately. If it triggers, it can sometimes even kill trucks and open-top vehicles. See around 6:50, that is an overpressure kill to a truck by the Pzgr. round, which amazed me quite a lot.

Currently shells overpressure when they have 170 grams or more of TNT equivalent explosives. This applys both to HE and APHE. So yes, since that shell on the Tiger 1 has over 170 it overpressures which is amazing. It is litteraly a 100% guaranteed one shot kill as long as your shell penetrates into the crew compartment. Even if your shell goes into the cupola and goes out of the cupola on the other side, as long as the shell was in the crew compartment the tank instantly dies. Consistant oneshots are extremely valuable in war thunder which is why this is super good. Edit: The guy above me who says that limit is 270g is lieing. Just test drive the T29. The APHE shell on it has exactly 177g TNT equivalent and it also overpressures.

If you really wanna see an APHE shell overpressure use the eadly italians 90mm stock shell. 500g of tnt.

Either way I still cringe that they actually implemented the muh overpressure APHE myth... 2022 and shells still magically lose all momentum and explode in a perfect sphere killing everything. Not even mentioning that the explosives are encased in a thick AP shell they need to break first. The only shells that should truly nuke stuff are shells with 1kg+ of filler, e.g Su100Y, KV2 etc

If it does exit the cupola before exploding, if it is on the lower end of explosive mass amount it won’t overpressure. Funny thing is shells which can do this overpressure (like the russian 122 or german 128) sometimes don’t even have to enter the crew compartment, or even the tank itself, on many occasions, ive just penetrated only the gun mantlet (or layered armour or something like that, sometimes even small cracks or holes) , leading to the detonation of the shell and it still can overpressure.

Sometime you don't event need to fully penetrate just a little pop and the crew goes deez nut it you notice the crew already dead from the penetration before the shell detonate XD

Tbh I wouldn't mind paper tanks so long as it's on a nation with less vehicles overall... Aka Italy, Japan, and Sweden... Particularly Japan, the only way to make it more competitive especially at higher tier is to add Korean and Southeast Asian tree to it like how Sweden gets the Nordic tree

You get the gist... Same with South Korea, they have K1 and K2 tanks, Japanese tree really suffers from having few lineups and very small tree... You can just add North Korea as part of Chinese tech tree

The base APHE was underperforming back in the day.Tiger I’s APHE should have 165mm of pen at closest distance,it’s written on a WW2 balistics book.Thankfully Gaijin fixed it a couple years ago.

@@DatBoi_TheGudBIAS we got a plenty of places whether rounds are withdrawn from the tank’s/plane’s ammo rack since “it cannot use this round due to the incompatibility or different timeframes”. IS-2-44 and BR-471D is an example. Same as lack of APHE rounds from Sherman’s 75 on British short 75 - they were perfectly compatible, and there were facts of APHE usage by the Royal army. And even though sometimes these restrictions exist only for the balancing purposes, the Tiger’s Spgr round is far away from being added for any balancing. It is just like giving T-34-57 an APFSDS round from 2S38 saying “oh it is compatible by the caliber and incompatible by any other means, let’s just give it a try”
