Have you thought about working with the local elementary schools. Set up field trips (signing wavers) so they can hand pick a box... of say a few of each, tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, eggs, peppers, beans... Charge the school $5 each. Get some bags for the kids and put a flier in each (maybe even have a 10% coupon on it). Take the truck and put some hay bails in the back for them to sit on. Not only is it good advertisement, but it would make a good video.

It's more than liability - and vouchers won't cover that anyway. It's the potential for damage to the crops, spreading disease to the crops, upsetting the animals, which affects growth, etc.
@toddabbott781
@toddabbott781 11 ай бұрын
@@essaboselin5252 I do not think crop disease would be an issue... or crop damage. Drive them out to an area and let them pick, then drive to the next area and let them pick. They don't pick all their crops most of the time and often let it rot in the field or sell it at auctions for barely enough to cover the gas. If liability was such a big deal then no farms would do this.

@@toddabbott781the farms that have tours etc have massive liability insurance, much higher staff, and basically are geared to tourism rather than agriculture. Way more to it than it seems

You asked what was our favorite vegetable to watch you guys pick. Today, I realized it's corn, watching a small cord of corn come flying out from the depths of corn plants and land, still in formation, in the box, is the coolest. Your cabbage toss is fun to watch too. What is Wine Stew,, beef bourgenoise? Your daughter is so cute😊

I’d LOVE you guys to partner with local schools. Show the kids how their food is grown. What it takes to grow food. Your choices to grow certain vegetables over others. Is your egg yield profitable. How you all pick foods, literally by hand. How the ‘weather’ affects crops. And what you will do to combat bad yields. Do you grow crops for government subsidies? I’d love y’all to take on kids interested in farming during the summer.

What profound insight and awareness spoken from a vegetable farmer. Vegetable farmers amend and influence their fields to produce their intended crop yields.

I hope everyone realizes what a great family this is, everyone as in the Ochs family. Not too many families can get this many people together, including in-laws and multiple generations without killing each other or some other abuse. I see no ungrateful ness, no shirking of duties, no laziness, no jealousy, no pettiness, no picky eaters, no rebellion. What an example you are showing to the rest of us! Believe me, I’m a field nurse, which means I work in homes all over about a 50 mile radius, and I have sold life insurance in homes all over Michigan and Alabama, and I have done these things for 33 years, so I have seen a lot, way too much “family dynamics.” And let me tell you that about 75% of households are dysfunctional to a large degree. Functioning households are hard to come by. Maybe it’s the rural, farm way of life. I used to live on a dairy farm, then a steer farm, and since I had a family of tiny children, I wasn’t allowed to be involved, but we watched while hubs did his work. Things like caring for ourselves was our value system. We all made bread, sewed curtains or furniture covers, grew large gardens, home canned, raised chickens for meat and butchered them ourselves. These labor intensive activities take all hands and share a common goal of getting ready for the winter. And using labor from multiple generations is the best way to raise a family. Everyone is pitching in for the common goal of trading veg for cash that several families rely upon for sustenance. It warms my heart to see dad and his three sons work side by side with little to no disagreement, yet no arrogance is shown either. Dad might still be the boss, but he is not a dictator about it. Unless there are sibling of whom I’m unaware, all three of grandpa’s sons remained on the farm to work alongside their father, yet each one could probably run the farm should grandpa leave the picture for some unforeseen reason. They apparently went from teen labor to adult labor without a blink. The new wives moved right in and have joined the team like they had been there all their lives. There seems to be plenty of seasonal work for several cousins who also pitch right in like members of the team. And now the blessing of the next generation living, playing, and soon to be working right alongside the family. And I don’t know if the ladies plan to homeschool, but would that ever kick this wonderful family up another notch in family success! I guess some of these couples need to get busy producing students for that homeschool, though! And with help coming from more than one mother (or father or grandparent), it would be a cinch to get the children schooled each day, after their farm chores, of course. [I homeschooled all 8 children over 23 years, and I currently homeschool a neighbor girl who’s in fifth grade. I had every situation you can imagine, including geniuses, educating-challenged, adopted as teens children, biological children, teens that didn’t speak a word of English, and one who failed every course in 9th grade when she was in public school. There are only ten years between #1 and #8, so you can imagine the multitude of teen challenges-5 girls on the monthly, driver education, jobs, transportation, sports, boyfriends, girlfriends, broken hearts, volume of food, etc., all at one time. Readers, feel free to contact me if you are interested in homeschooling and would like encouragement or information. Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack your thread.] Anyway, great harvest. I could live on tomatoes! Yum! I bought half bushel of canners, but our market charges $20, not $14! Love your videos. I am going to incorporate them into my homeschool.

I was wondering as far as the corn goes do you only get one ear per plant or do some varieties put out more than one ear? Love watching you guys and gals and how you work together as a team! It really makes my day. I don't think much of the younger generation put enough thought into growing good healthy food. When I was a kid in the seventies there were tons of road side vegetable stands that sold fruits and veggies that were actually grown by themselves. These days most of the sellers get their produce from large warehouses that they pass off as "home grown". More power to you! Wish you all the best. You are a dying breed. Love ya.
