Living in New York City isn't all adventure and dynamism. Unless you are wealthy the way no real person is, you probably have to settle for a living space that is cramped and cluttered. It is the project of Graham Hill, entrepreneur and treehugger.com founder, to come up with an ideal New York apartment-one with a small footprint, both physically and environmentally, and one that offers just as much beauty and functionality as a pad multiple times its size.

Jacox I completely agree. My company has built a lot of these elements and we have used some of this hardware. Beyond that, I know where a lot of the other hardware comes from and how much work has to go into this. It is a very expensive space. That said, in New York it might be worth it.

+New York Discoveries It might be a condo and not actually an apartment. It seems many people from NYC call condo apartments. To install the gadgets it probably only costs 25k-30k.

ONLY 20-30k?! With that kinda cash one could buy a home in Greece and enjoy a 300 square meter castle with Acropolis view in Athens.
@anonymous9066
@anonymous9066 8 жыл бұрын
You obviously know nothing about Athens. The riots have never been in the Plaka (acropolis) area but on Syntagma square, a couple kilometers away. You can't even see them from Plaka.
@mathlover101hotmail
@mathlover101hotmail 8 жыл бұрын
***** It makes a lot of sense. The average price of a square foot in new york city is over $1000. For 30k, you can probably at best get a 6 x 5 closet. The gadgets allow much more utility than a 6x5 piece of space added.

Appearantly "new York" means MANHATTAN these days, no one's heard of Brooklyn or Queens affordable apartments before. Or they know but can't afford a 15 minute train ride to their hectic jobs. sad. I pity New Yorkers that need six cups of coffee just to get through the day.
@etamlous

All of this looks cute and functional but when you start living you'll get tired of constantly shuffling walls, and cabinets, beds and tables. The kitchen is functional only for a yuppie who will be eating out and not cooking in the apartment. Anyone who has even done light cooking will know how the heat and smells of fried oils can overwhelm a room. And that flip down bed will fall apart if you try to hook up on it.

+etamlous It's not like you need to be constantly pulling and pushing, though. I guess the stuff one would use most are the 'office' and obviously the bed. The office only takes such a small amount of space that you would probably have set it up all day anyway. The only downside truly is the bed, but you could also spread your sheets, pillows and blankets over the sofa. As for the rest of the stuff, such as the guest room or the goliath table - that's only something you would use if you get lots of visits. And pulling and pushing 'the guestroom' out once or twice in a year is not such a big deal in my opinion. All in all I think this transforming apartment really uses the available space in a clever way. Especially in NYC, where most of the time you get small apartments for a ridiculously high monthly rent, this might be a way to at least enjoy the tiny room.

Oh man i feel so sorry for your bank. Butt i guess they need fill their space in some of their cubicles for people who cant see or feel the deference from a fiber board and oak tree. Even to see the product details and see that is made of inferior materials and smaller size then from original Goliath table that was made and designed in Italy. And i never said that the table was from US and how did you came out with that? Again table is made in Italy and your friends Chinese have stolen the design and made their own inferior copy. If you knew a bit about this product and a bit of knowledge of the industry you could put another thing why is it expensive in US and it is because of shipping from Italy and that in the begging a third party was selling them so they had to put their price to, but you are to occupied sucking at everything that you do and knowing nothing at all about value and commitment of others people hard work.

The point of living in a tiny apartment is to live cheap, the way to make that work is by applying minimalism to the way you use the space, not by tucking everything away. This apartment cancels out both of those means/ends, since it isn't a tiny apartment compared to others in NYC and it isn't minimal
@alicetremain7366
@alicetremain7366 8 жыл бұрын
+TeenWitch1996 Given the diversity in the world, I'm pretty sure there are multiple reasons to live in a tiny apartment. In addition to minimalism, borrowing fold-out solutions from boat design is a good idea. This one apt happens to showcase a dozen ideas in one place. I wouldn't build them all, e.g., I have another place for my bike and would never have a microwave, but am going to try the solar battery and standing desk/office, which would be good anywhere. I imagine the dining table is superexpensive, but it's definitely a good solution to nest it under the kitchen work surface.

You just have to waste at least 30 minutes - cleaning, putting things away, unprepping and then prepping each room "mode" any time you need to do anything you weren't doing previously. This looks great on camera but you would burn out on it within a year. Just because you can squeeze a lot of functions into a small living space doesn't make it automatically more functional if you constantly have to do more busy work besides regular chores. It ceases to function as a LIVING space and you will pay throught the nose for this.

The only thing you really need to do is take your bed down and put it back up. Unless you have guests over. The cooking things you can leave on the counter, you don't have to put them back in the drawer. Technically you can just leave the bed down as well. The wall sliding was only to access the guest room. You technically don't have to do anything if you don't care about it looking neat

What about if you get a chick and she comes over and she says “let’s go to the bedroom”,and he says”we’re in it”, it’s just a turn off and I think it’s a bit stupid to go to this extent, everything feels really cramped
