in my opinion they are some of the best rims for the r230. they just need some refurbishing and I think they would look great on the car.

I guess one cool thing about having an older car that you love is the fact, that when things break, it's kind of a game and exciting when you fix them (unless it gets expensive.)

Those wheels are gorgeous! Like the ones on the CLK GTR, they may just need to be painted black. I'm starting to like this channel since I found it a few days ago because I love DIY stuff and Mercedes so this channel is great!

Man, did you not see your tire shredded on inside? It clearly means you need to do laser wheel alignment! Otherwise you just wasting new tires.

Man I am really happy for you and I get excited every time you upload a video. I love seeing you working on your cars especially this SL55. It really is a great find and really cheap. I checked Autotrader today and the cheapest one was $15.700!.. Wrench every day ;)

way to go tavarish, keep making this amg better and better. im looking at an amg s65 2007. Dont b afraid to get after market ryms, b careful with electronics on these cars, an engine scanner is also helpful. keep making vids

I've had 3 of these cars. Currently running a low mileage 2007 F1 pack car. Personally I would have stuck with factory Pirelli's . Do you have water ingress in boot, I'd be shocked if you don't? Likeiy you'll need to change rear boot / rear window seal...... worth checking out. Gearbox oil.... worth changing I think they have independent filter. If car has been abused so would the trans, odds on oil hasn't berm changed for a while. Other tell tale is supercharger bearings? Best of luck

So did you get a alignment too? That tire wear is an indicator for a very shot rear end, and/or an off alignment

You can definitely get some good deals on tires, especially on Tire Rack. I got a pair of Continental ExtremeContact DW tires in 275/35/18 on sale for like $118 each, which was a downright bargain.

On a serious note I love those wheels. The multi spoke is classic if not impractical. The tires kind of look low profile to me, but maybe I'm just ignorant. Keep up the good work!

That's a pretty standard rear tyre from an older AMG Mercedes where you can spin the rear wheels despite the traction control. They do eat tyres, especially the rear ones. I have heard tales of some AMGs eating rear tyres in 1,000 miles...

The uneven wear on the inside of that tyre suggests a tracking problem. I would get the car aligned and tracked.

Nice car and admire your craftsmanship. I just moved to Queens NY and looking for a reliable and honest mechanic who can repair, do some exterior work and provide routine maintenance work on my sl500. Those wheels are one of my favourites. I'm looking for one of these cars right now and any of the other wheels are ether a deal breaker or buying a set is negotiated off the price.

Fun fact: Sumitomo Rubber Industries also owns Falken and rights to Dunlop. Of course, they are part of the giant Sumitomo keiretsu. Mazda is also under Sumitomo.

I actually like the rims, but if you want to change it, check out the AMG rims on the 63s and 65s from the 2009-2012 facelift car. Also, you should replace the brake light with a gray one from the 2007-2012 AMGs. These will modernize the car in my opinion

on way down from jersey to Florida, you should consider stopping at Merc specialist garages along the route. in exchange for a shout-out, each places fixes one issue. there's a good shop here in Cary NC, for example

I'm no expert, but those new rear tires look like a sport compound. Comparing to the old, less grippy front tires, isn't understeer a problem?

When I bought my SL55, it had the same issue with the tires on all 4 corners.... these things eat the inside of each tire, especially with ABC on low setting.

Have you figured out why the head unit isn't producing any sound? My money is on that butcher job of an install bypassed the Most Amp when they added a sub and ran all channels off of an aftermarket 5 channel amp. That long of a drive with no music is torture.

I think you are wrong about the wheels bro, Turbofin style wheels are iconic on MB's like the Le Mans or DTM series. Perhaps if you up the size simply, you will like em more, but thinner sidewall is not always the best. Or go for same size and style but with a lip.

The Cheapest '03 SL55 AMG here in Los Angeles runs about $12,000 and that's with a salvaged title because it was wrecked and repaired.
