What do you think is the best saddle on the market and why?

6:37 This is the main issue with the WTB Volt saddle, this plastic where it's written Comfort Zone. After a short amount of use this starts delaminating and when that happens you'll start hearing creaking and clicking noises. Personally I thought the noise came from something frame related, and it just drove me nuts. I was really surprised that the sound came out of the headset area of my bike, yet the culprit was only this WTB Volt saddle. It feels like they've just cut out a piece of plastic from a plastic soda bottle and just crammed it in there. That kind of hard and thin plastic will make noise when it is getting squeezed against a hard surface under it, so just imagine sitting on a plastic bottle with only air inside while trying to ride a bike and you can easily imagine the noises that'll make. I find it so sad that this is a common issue more than I have, and yet it doesn't get fixed. It's the best saddle I've had besides this, so my fix was to use epoxy and just push that comfort zone plastic in and fill epoxy into every nook and cranny. That took care of it and I haven't noticed any difference in use which makes me question the functionality of that cutout in the first place. WTB take care of your creaky clacky saddles please...

Just switchted to regular rails after years on sdg Ibeam with duster or the forumla FX saddles due to the I beam bolt finally went after 8-10 years of use. so using what came on my cx/gravel/outdoor bike a prologo saddle form 2017. The trainer bike is wtb silverado from backup parts box.

Really love my Ergon SM Comp. So much that I have one on my 17 Farley EX8 and my 23 Roscoe 8. Can not beat the comfort while not getting numb.

I personally used to dismiss saddle shapes and prioritize quality padding but I got a heinous carbon seat with no padding by pure chance and it's the most comfortable saddle I've ever had...

Thanks, what a great video! In the 3D printed saddles pay attention to the details. Yesterday I checked out the Fizik's Antares 3D saddle at the local bike shop. I almost accepted it for the test, but I rejected it. The 3D padding was wrong. Where the seat bones come in, there was a soft section and a hardened section in front of it. Guaranteed to start pressure in the soft tissue. I think it should be opposite. Then the 3D section didn't even cover the edge of the saddle and there remains a sharp carbon fiber edge which is guaranteed to be felt through the shorts. Specialized 3D looks much better though. The Phenom saddle is my favorite but they don't make it anymore. I mean they made gel padded Phenom and the comp version is just too soft for me.

Went through a few saddles when I bought a couple new bikes to come up to date from my 1993 GT that had been unused for a while. Volt was OK. Got an SDG that was comfortable but gave me cramps in the inner thigh. Bought a xxx with a designed upsweep to make you feel planted. Did not like that feeling! Found myself standing more to escape its grasp. Settled on an Ergon for my S6 and stole the Vetta SL from my GT and put it on my S5 (gave it the Volt). The Vetta SL is the most comfortable I have found so far.

my sit bone measures 4" 7/8" had a 145 on my domane + thought I wouldn't get butt fatigue on 30 Mile+ rides if I went to a wider saddle so went with a 155 and moved it back just a touch still feels uncomfortable a little and going to move it back where it was and try again, what do you think of maybe a 150 with my size sit bone? should I go back to the 145 or stay with the 155 and move it back forward a touch or get a 150 ?

Saddles are obviously ultra personal. I HATE shopping for a saddle. I find saddles Ive liked, buy several and stick with them for decades. Ive been riding long distances both on and offroad (up to 48 hour rando type rides) for decades. For offroad and mixed roads I like Titec Berserker saddles made in the '90s best. This is a pretty long DH saddle with thick very firm padding made in the '90s. The thick padded nose is what I like best for technical climbing. For extremely long hours in the saddle, mostly on the pavement NOTHING beats a good old leather saddle. You just need to be patient and break them in for a while . They conform to my anatomy perfectly . I raced and toured road on a thick Brooks Professional back in the day. Ive worn out several B17s. I use a Selle Anatomica now. It was a gift. Very comfortable brand new. I was just given an NOS Lysett English leather saddle from the '70s. I oiled it really well and its amazingly comfortable, considering its almost prehistoric!

I don’t have the leg strength I used to when I was young. I find myself sitting when the dropper is down on occasion. The upsweep makes that miserable. I ride ergon.

Been through at least 30 plus saddles. I can ride only slim racing saddles, this combined with shorts that are padded. All day everyday 100 miles.

Best Saddle is the one that fits and thus does not chaff away at the abductors, next to ramus of ischias. Selle Italia "Friction Free" were the only saddles with a narrow enough wing to nose transition for a 5.3 foot rider. Nobody explains saddle width correctly and honestly, companies basically lie, pretending saddles fit for a huge spectrum of body sizes and that avoiding a too narrow saddle was the main goal of measuring sibone (hence we measure the widest part, the ischias, not the narrowest, the ramus) but most shapes are extremely size specific like shoes - your locked into the valley inbetween nose and wing and in this position, the saddle must not be wider than the bone, nor narrower and you cant just move forward where its narrower or backwards where its wider because of gravity. I dremeled plenty of other saddles down to fit but you can't easily dremel all three dimensions of the shape. Even leather saddles need a cut on top of lacing to be narrow enough. Selle Italia Friction Free are not at all the most comfy saddles in terms of cushioning, but the only option that must not be altered. I prefer my chopped and laced gyes leather saddle but it won't last for long because the leather is "cheap" (from young live stock animals with thin skin). Cambium is horrible. Size and shape is 95% of comfort. Don't pay for special cushion or suspension before you know your size and fit.

Saddles are ridiculously personal: one person's ideal saddle is another person's torture device. In my experience, the most comfortable saddle of all time is the Brooks C-17; it's even more comfortable than the B-17, and it's (sort of) waterproof, which the B-17 is not. However, it is indeed ridiculously heavy, and if it gets wet, it stays wet for hours. Currently, I'm riding a Fizik Antares; it's only 220g, very durable, fully waterproof, and almost as comfy as the C-17. But again, it depends on the rider; other people may hate it.

My comments: Title, cycling vs mountain biking are completely different (just to clarify). Also downhill. Personally, the best saddle will depend on your seat bone, and type of riding. Road cycling vs mountain biking (XC, enduro, downhill). For me, I used fizik for road racing. Now retired, for mountain biking I use Ergon.

After riding the wtb comfort it really doesn't live upto it's name that's for sure! In fact I think it's actually the hardest saddle I have ever had! The gel is solid and doesn't break in after 250miles! I do not recommend it I am a heavier rider and the reason I went for this wtb comfort absolute blunder buy!

SDG sucks! I had 4 saddles with different rails. ALL OF THEM BENT during TRAIL riding, no crashing! Warranty does not cover rails of course! they know their rails are weak! Lots of reviews with the same issue.

If you need upsweep on a saddle then fill a depends diaper with pebbles and roll around as needed. I prefer my saddles flat and I decide what the hell I want to do with my body on any attack. The marketing BS is for weak under trained snowflakes who don't realize that they have leg and core muscles that absolutely negate this bogus marketing ploy.
