I agree- the new Indiana 4 book series is a pain :-) I like the contents but splitting it up into the different sections is confusing and a hassle

Good morning Kelly- I will put myself "out there" and add something to this- I have 1 year of hands under my belt now and you know what I have learned - the right resources are good!!! But you can have all the literature on hand that is out there it takes team effort. Standard protocols are good but only the physician knows what is under that skin- he did the surgery... he knows what is in there! That said- when nurses, physicians do not collaborate / communicate well with the therapists it is not a good situation. I was so blessed- the physicians I worked with were God sent- they allowed me to see x-rays so I can see the surgery done and even sent me feedback of the patients progression... suggestions...it was so nice to have this. On the contrary - in the past I have worked with those who think of themselves "up here" and you are just a therapist " so you are "inferior/ substandard" "what you don't know what you are doing"? And I find that this attitude is a toxic situation- you feel like asking them "do you think I have x-ray vision? I am "good" but not that good :-) I have learned through the years that each surgeon is different and each diagnosis is different- even the standard routine surgeries - if something has gone wrong and the surgeon does not communicate that there is a problem! When the physicians are on board with the therapist and provide feedback it is wonderful- team effort makes a good outcome for the patient!!! So hopefully the therapist going into the field today are greeted by physicians who want to work together as a team for the best result for the patient God bless :-) Thanks for all the info you put out there!

Hi Kelly! Thanks so much for this video-- it was super helpful bc I've been interested in purchasing a book for hand therapy protocols. If you had to choose between the Indiana one or the Elizabeth De Herder one, which one would it be?

Oooh...good question. Before the new addition of the Indiana book came out, it definitely would have been De Herder's...but now the Indiana is very updated. I think my preference still leans towards Elizabeth De Herder's book - I like the way it's organized better. But both are fantastic!

QUESTION: I've fractured both pinkies as a child and my FLAT HANDS always 'drink tea'... is this OK when I exercise? I ask as if I can FIX this - I cannot; but are there any Special exercises for this problem?

If it’s from a long time ago, likely not much you can do to change the range of motion!
