We just had to give this great mountain a crack when we were in Wales, but with six paths to the summit, which one should we choose? In the end we went with the quietest route and ended up having the whole place to ourselves (well, until the summit of course!). So did we make the right choice? And more importantly will we even make it in this UK September heatwave?? Join us on this absolutely beautiful climb...

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature as often as possible, but I'm afraid she has a proper job so it can take weeks for our schedules to match up.

Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.

Aussie bushwalker here. A good tip for walking in warm weather is to freeze some water i.e. a bottle of water the night before. It will gradually thaw out during the day and will be lovely and cool for quite some time.

As you get older it's very true that the descents are much harder on the joints and muscles than going up. I've not taken that route for about 30 years but feel inspired to do it once more. You had a great day for the walk and were very sensible to go up early. Thanks for another great video.

Try the Crib Goch ridge on the other side - I did it that way back in my younger days(!) - It's very exposed with steep dropoffs on both sides, there were people crawling along it when I was there!

Steve, you two have got to be healthier than most people in the world. To climb uphill for three hours is a feat. The guy carrying his bike is amazing, he didn't even sound winded when he was talking to you. The views from up there are breathtaking!! Thanks for the video. Amazing. I'm afraid of heights and that path was so narrow and close to the edge, it made me feel dizzy. The views were spectacular though and I loved the view from the summit especially. Thanks to both of you for allowing me to visit places I can only dream of going to,

Such a beautiful day for it! I hear you on the crowds that the summit train can provide, but from where I live in the US, the lack of public transit access to the great outdoors can often be disheartening. The idea of a little ride up to the top of the highest peak -- or maybe even taking it halfway so you still get to stretch your legs -- is DREAMY.

Just one old lady on social security who subscribed to your channel. I can’t always read the two different size fonts in your written information. Now, we know that all Steve Marsh videos MUST include some uphill steps but this was EPIC! What a hike and those views!! We definitely will be going to Wales in the future but with my very dodgey knees, I'm afraid we'll have to "step up" and buy a train ticket if we want to get anywhere near that summit. I did Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) for the first time via the Llanberis path in 2017 when I was 67. The thing I was not expecting was how busy it was. I never in my wildest dreams thought there would be so many people on their way to the top of a mountain 😄 I would like to go back and climb it by another path, but being 74 now, I'm not sure that I am still fit enough. I do enjoy watching others attempt the ascent. Good job both of you. Wales is amazing 👍

I did the Snowdon horseshoe (via Crib goch and round to Llewedd)a few years ago. From Crib goch to the flank of Snowdon there was hardly anyone about. Then as I approached Snowdon summit it was like walking into a busy supermarket, because of all the people that take the train. It surprised me as well! 100 yards further on from the summit and the rest of the route, it was quiet again.

...really a worthwhile watch... reminds me of many a tour in the lower alps (where I grew up)... the stony paths can be tricky - an ankle is quickly twisted, if you don't pay attention. The views were majestic, and the weather was with you. A bit sad though that they put the final train stop and cafe right on the top... which could be reserved for aah's and ooh's, admiring the peak without hustle-bustle... it could have been placed just out of sight and noise from the peak... however, sigh... and as it is of course, it allows also people with walking difficulties to have the peak experience! 😎 I still find it sometimes hard to believe, that there are guys cycling down!! 🚲😅

The Rhyd Ddu path is one of the best routes up and its also one of the quieter ones! Good choice! I like the fact the railway makes the mountain top accessible for people who couldn't physically walk up, but at the same time a lot of people use it as the lazy option and miss out on so much. The great thing about Snowdonia is that there are a lot of other peaks with views of Yr Wyddfa and non of the crowds. If you think that was busy you should see it at lunchtime on a weekend. There are literally people queuing to take a selfie on the summit

Pair of legends! That's a rough trail compared with the Llanberis path, fair play to you both. Coming down is surprisingly taxing too isn't it. Excellent video.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

What a great hike and looks like you chose the right path and the time of day too! I quite like the idea of mountain railways etc to get to summits; yes, it makes it busy but you get facilities and it means those who wouldn’t otherwise see the summit can get there. If you want to see this sort of infrastructure done well, go to Switzerland where there are cable cars / funiculars and mountain railways everywhere :)

If you walk from the other side of the mountain the accent is only 2.5 hours although not in the heat. The PYG track is good as you start from Pen y Gent. The miners track is ok but a climb at the end, tough going. The Watkin path is an easy one but LONG. If I remember correctly four hours. The Llanberis path is the busy one and hard on the feet. I can’t eat welsh cakes without butter. Under here three hours is a good time, you should never rush. I have been on the top able to see your have out stretched but also when the air has been crystal clear. You can see for miles.

Cycled up Snowdon more times than I’ve changed my underpants. Beautiful views. Glad you had a nice day for it …. Snowdon in cloud is like any other peak when you can’t see anything.

People do turn round and abandon the ascent especially if you go up crib goch ......I once went up crib goch in the winter( when I was a teenager and invincible!!) Would not recommend it. Last year , the kids and I went up on the gentler slope and (at 54) it really killed me! Great vid folks thanks.

Really enjoyed that one Steve. I first climbed Snowdon around 1978 and there were no film camera's etc back in those days to record it. However a guy I met at the summit had one of them new fangled Poloroid instamatic cameras and he used that to take a photo at the trig point. Cafe wasn't up to much either with teas and soup about all that was available.

Awesome hike! I said WOW aloud several times and felt my heart catch on the sheer and shaley ridges. Thanks for taking us along. I want to strap on boots and head out in the morning. Excellent climb,glad you made it OK. That ridge and loose stones going downhill looked dodgy. But you got ideal weather for it. We once drove past the train station but the weather was no good for going up so missed out as I would have loved to take the train up. Happy you had a great holiday with Alicja.

Did the climb up/down many years ago - we did different routes up/down, then had to walk right along the lake back to the car - big mistake - but once you've done it it never leaves you - mine was around 1970 ! We 'enjoyed' mistyness on the way down & feared getting lost, but somehow the path was always just visible thank goodness ! Love you Wales - been in the US for many years now so I really enjoyed this adventure with you guys - thank you !!!

No cell phones in those days either to tell the poor guys who stayed behind where we were - they were really scared for us - my husband & my daughter that is, who did not want to go with me & our 3 boys !

I can believe it! We were tempted with a different route down, but foresaw the walk back to the van and decided against it!

Excellent footage. About 60 years ago I peddled there on my cycle from Northampton staying at Youth Hostels.. 1/6 or 71/2p as it is now. Been up top 3 times but by train. Well done you two, a joy to take me with you. Thank you

My goodness this land is gorgeous! Much reminds me of the Isle of Skye with those mountain lakes …i would never for a moment consider wearing shorts in that very rough terrain a slip or fall would be horrible ! a serious walk with incredible vistas … thank you for sharing with us and taking us along …stay blessed
