Today I want to cover the top signs you’re deficient in digestive enzymes.
There are five pieces to this puzzle, and we’re going to break down each one.
1. The stomach
Top symptoms of a deficiency in stomach enzymes:
• Indigestion
• Gas
The best natural remedy:
• Betaine hydrochloride
2. The pancreas
Top symptoms of a deficiency in pancreatic enzymes:
• Problems digesting fat
• Bloating
• Abdominal pain
• Deficiencies in fat-soluble vitamins
The best natural remedies:
• TUDCA
• A supplement containing pancreatic enzymes
• Betaine hydrochloride
• Ox bile
3. The gallbladder
• Does not produce enzymes but contributes to enzymes and supports the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients
Top symptoms of a deficiency in bile:
• Bloating
• Belching
• Burping
• Deficiencies in fat-soluble nutrients
• Pain in the right shoulder or neck
• Fullness under the right rib cage
4. The small intestine
Top symptom of a deficiency in enzymes from the small intestine:
• SIBO
The best natural remedies:
• Betaine hydrochloride
• Ox bile
• The carnivore diet
• Intermittent fasting
• Garlic
5. The large intestine
• Does not produce enzymes, but the microbes in the large intestine do produce enzymes that support digestion
Top symptoms of a deficiency in these microbes:
• Diarrhea
• Constipation
• Fatty stool
Natural remedies:
• Leafy greens
• Probiotics
• Fermented foods

This information would've change my life 20 years ago, all these years i've had minor digestive issues that worsens as i get older, everytime i went to visit a Dr. they quickly throw a prescription at me to relieve my symptoms and push me out the door instead of trying to investigate the root cause of my symptoms. i finally got fed up and started trying on countless digestive aid supplements and found that my symptoms get better when i take digestive enzymes in high dose. i ran to the Dr. office and told her and she did a blood lipase test and lo' and behold result came back "pancreatic insufficiency". our healthcare system is a real tragedy.

Many comments from medical students later complain about the lack of nutritional studies and how nutrition effects symptoms. The profession is swapped with symptom control while overlooking how food acts as a medicine. The failed food pyramid is a great example of this as it relates to obesity rates and metabolic syndromes like acquired (type 2) diabetes, now neurological type 3 diabetes (aka Alzheimer’s). I believe our abilities to accurately guide a physician can literally change this industry (the potential to anyways). It can be argued that pharmaceutical companies have found a way to multiply profit thru biased research and extravagant conferences aimed at the medical profession (making them dependent in a way). Apologies for the digressions but I went thru diabetic nutrition classes and my problems only got worse (and I have a biomedical undergrad in cardiology and neurology) until reviewing LCHF with Dr Berg 8 months ago. Now the food industry is responding with faux Keto labeling which will only confuse more. Sorry about the rant, I just feel robbed after so many years of bad advice from govt, pharmaceutical and food industries

Three cheers for stomach acid! 🙌 Not only do you need HCl to activate pepsin, but you need the chyme leaving the stomach to be acidic in order to trigger enzyme release from the pancreas and bile release from the gallbladder. So, HCl is needed for ALL digestive enzyme function!

I find that sipping on apple cider vinegar after meals, especially mixing it into hot water helps a lot if you believe you have acid insufficiency. Avoid getting your kidneys and liver area cold after meals (bundle up!), chew slowly and throughly, try having something bitter and acidic in each meal (lime juice, sauerkraut, frisée, arugula...). I also take enzymes with ox bile and betaine (New Roots brand). There’s many things to suggest as I’m a Nutritionist who does keto/intermittent fasting, but the biggest thing which makes a difference avoiding reflux is definitely the apple cider vinegar after meals - or I squeeze a lime or two in water with a lil’ stevia, yum! 😊

Dr. Berg, I don’t know how you do it, but you somehow manage to upload the EXACT video I need at the EXACT time I need it… can’t thank you enough. Been on a roller coaster the past 8 months with shifts in my labs, and trying to get to the bottom of it. After watching tons of your videos, and some others about stomach acid from the Gut Microbiome Queen, I realized this could very well be the root of my issues. Had Sibo in 2018, but now am dealing with all of the symptoms you mentioned. Even down to the pain in the right neck!!! My cholesterol panel worsened in 6mo (LDL and Triglycerides up, HDL down) and my fecal Elastase was 110 down from 149, so showing signs of PEI. Stools are floating half the time, I noticed the red bumps on the back of my arms (low vit A), burping, gas, bloating, and very constipated or just slow motility overall. The weird thing is my Vitamin D was up to 110… I had been supplementing with drops but have since stopped. Taking HCL and Strong Enzyme now, while also doing a healthy keto, but the interesting thing was the Bile. I was taking a Bile acid supplement that included Tudca, but was Ox bile (Jarrow makes it). I also did Viome’s ‘Full Body Intelligence’ test and had all sorts of markers come back not optimal, but Bile Metabolism pathways were elevated, which made me think I had more than enough bile? But I think it has to do more with the bile the microbes metabolize. Anyway, this video is amazingly helpful to see the whole picture!! And such good timing. I will add Tudca back to the regimen for sure to see if it helps. Thank you!!!!

@@mytravls yeah my levels are high, and since I’ve been tracking them I know that they weren’t always that high so it’s odd. But I also looked up what Dr. Steven Gundry recommends for his patients, and he actually says between 110 and 140 is fine for most people? So I’m not too worried about toxicity, but I also don’t want to keep it that high lol, so definitely stopping the supplements. Honestly, I think there’s a lot to do with my liver and the efficiency that it’s recycling fats and cholesterol

This is a very informative video just as most all of his videos are. A lot to be taken in here. However one thing I must remind my brothers and sisters about is the fact that there’s a bunch of bodily issues we’re all learning about, but we’ve got to be mindful as to why and what the root cause(s) are, because if you end up watching these videos everyday which is actually a really good idea, you must keep in mind the plethora of vitamins and other supplements that are now being ingested into the body… too much is not a good thing and we know this. So it’s wise to not ignore this fact. By now you may probably be eating pills for breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner… and possibly a late evening snack. The vitamin and supplement companies have skyrocketed ten fold in the last couple of years and it certainly doesn’t go unnoticed. My point is, be mindful and think think think… on your own without it being done for you. If you are to cut back and/or eliminate all vitamins and other pills and supplements whatever is next for you to do in order to heal your body? Well I can tell you this… FOR SURE sugar and refined carbohydrates MUST MUST MUST be eliminated from the diet and from within the body. It is simply a poison that wreaks havoc on the body from the inside out… inflammation being a big problem. If you’re noticing issues on the outside of the body you can rest assured the inside is doing far worse. Outside of the body issues can be anything from barely able to eat without feeling sick and full, aches and pains in joints and back, dandruff, psoriasis etc. After the elimination process the body begins to heal and a few herbs and supplements can very well aid in the body’s recovery process. Just my two cents and a little food for thought.

What gets me is in my late 30s and 40s, I would use the peppermint patties to calm the acid reflux which I didn't have much issues except for the Mexican lunch. What I do now is use the HCL for trying to fix the problem of absorption of minerals and better health. I believe in short term pills but not long term. Changing your diet is the cure (in my mind and eat healthier choices). The lack of soil minerals and natural bacteria in the soil seems to be the root cause on some of the issue with the grown food.

I started intermittent fasting about 2 months ago. I eat 3 fixed meals - 4 hours apart. For example: my first meal would be at 10am, second (small meal) 2pm and the last one at around 5:30pm. First and last meals are larger than the second meal in between. I do not snack. I eat eggs and avocados frequently (both have become my staple food). I no longer crave sugar, I cut it out almost completely. I exercise every day. My digestion has improved so so much, Im losing body fat and noticing some muscle growth and stiffness. I guess intermittent fasting works BEST for me, cause even if I exceed my calorie intake a bit, I still notice weight loss.. and digestion was always a big problem for me. Now it is perfect.

Another great video by our favourite doctor. For SIBO small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, I take 2 capsules of digestive enzymes with each meal until my symptoms subside -Usually about 3/4days. Digestive enzymes can be bought from any health supplement shops, but they are VERY expensive. Word of advice, keep off the carbs and dairy products, microbes THRIVE on carbohydrates especially sugars. Go CARNIVORE until the symptoms subside. For ppl who prefer natural remedies, again talking from personal experience, crush 2 cloves of garlic and swallow after each meal, followed by 2 glasses of water. If you can't stomach fresh garlic, then there are supplements of garlic oil capsules available - again very expensive. What are the benefits of Garlic? - Antimicrobial - Antifungal - help regulate Tachycardia - help regulate blood pressure - help with kidney problems So pleased for this natural panacea for so many ailments. Last advice, stay off processed foods and foods with sugars and additives. Filtered water isn't bacteria -free, contrary to popular belief. I learnt that by personal experience. Unfortunately with gut problems, comes mental health problems like depression and irrationality, therefore you may also need SSRIs until the symptoms subside. It doesn't need saying that anyone with digestive problems should really be careful with what they eat/drink. Stay healthy everyone! 👌
