Jason, I started following you about a year ago. Inspired by you, I am putting my home for sale this week and moving to Sacramento next month with my two kids and husband. I even obtained my bachelors degree in 4 months to get better chances of getting hired at Kaiser. In about a month, I applied to over 140 positions at Kaiser and finally got a job offer last week. I start in 4 weeks! I will be making $103/hr, 24 hours a week. I am nervous and exited for this new adventure. I am moving from Indiana, all across the country!! Thank you so much for all the great videos!

I started in nursing in 1988 at Baptist in Miami. We were primary nursing with no help. I worked in ICU for 5 years. 1-2 patients. However, at times, I was floated to floor. 10 patients. At that every patient had to have a bath, and sheets changed daily. I have been in home heath since 1997.

I love all your content you provide, it's fun to see the best sides of the nursing career from that northern Cali perspective. Here just a little north of Seattle we would dream of those rates. I hopped out of my hospital and travel nursed to the one that was same commute time in the other direction and got a taste of feeling my real worth as a nurse going from $39 to making $3k a week. Kind of hard to give up money like that so i took an in house per diem there and made $180k last year thanks to the bonus incentives that as a per diem i could leverage. Well that all ended this month and now im hopping back to my old hospital as a per diem to pick up bonus shifts over there again. So the game continues. With housing $40% up its really my only hope of affording a home. I don't think i can play this game for many more years and like you I'm looking at the off ramps should my body ever have a problem doing the work.

Do you all know if jobs in SF are more or less competitive than other places in the bay area nowadays? You also pay into the pension every paycheck in the UC Davis Health system. On the flip side, your pension benefits can begin at 50 and max out at 60 instead of the 55 & 65 age per the latest contract. If you do make it to age 60, the pension amount is a lot more generous than other hospitals.

I’m a lucky one. Background: have 9 years total RN experience, 6 of which in ICU, mainly CVICU. I began applying to Kaiser facilities in the Bay Area in mid-March. By early April, I got an offer. I also got calls from 4 of them before I got that offer, which I accepted. 8 hour shifts, 4 days a week. Base pay is literally cents away from $100/hour. With differentials, I think I’ll make around $108. To say I’m ecstatic is an understatement. I thought this would be a long, drawn out process filled with rejection. But I was pleasantly surprised at the speed at which I got hired, from applying to accepting an offer. This is the best way for me to end my travel nurse adventure and start working at a facility where I’ll get paid what I’m worth and not be worked to the bone.

@MNP208 The job is slightly outside the Bay Area, but closer to SF than Sacramento. I'm going to rent a room, which is what I've been doing my last couple of years of travel nursing, so it's nothing new. I've seen rent prices for around $1k/month. I have a house with a 1.5k mortgage just one state over, so I will fly back home on my off days, which is also what I've been doing and is nothing new. There's a reason why nurses from cheaper COL areas all over the country fly to the Bay Area to work staff jobs then fly back home. The pay, ratios, and benefits can't be beat. I'm only one state over, so it's even easier and cheaper for me.

Sinai has a bad rep on Reddit. It’s almost like the cycle is a vicious one of hiring new grads and then them leaving after 1-2 years. This can also be a way to keep costs down because you don’t have seasoned nurses in high numbers like other systems. Monte always has come off like that from the patient view.
