This was a bittersweet watch, seeing everyone who’s no longer with us, not even on the sidelines. 😔 I can personally vouch for fellow creators in the camp of burnout and/or personal drama: nothing kills your drive quite like having your greatest passion also become the source of your biggest problems. Touhou hasn't just been synonymous with KZfaq, it has been synonymous with the entire internet. Though the old channels may be dead. There are plenty of new channels continuing to make amazing content. The important thing now is making sure that old stuff isn't lost.

It's quite painful and sweet watching people go their ways and eventually getting a wonderful future after or before a fanbase, although it's a difficulty for some people to accept the fact that some people can't stay around too long or for them to find someone close to similarity to the person they're a fan of for (or not) getting them into a fanbase. Magiftw, one of the more influential folks that got me into this beautiful clusterfuck of a series. Mainly the various doujin works countdowns. Kinda sucks he just... vanished without warning, but life probably had other plans and thus he had to quit. Is it temporary? Is it permanent? Who knows. Fun fact, I didn't have a mobile phone for a long time, nor a PC/laptop. Meaning for countless years I watched numerous KZfaq videos on my 3DS or Wii U depending on which system was more convenient for me. Meaning if I wanted to view a specific doujin work, fanart or MMD video listed in one of the numerous countdowns Magi had I would need to exit the KZfaq app on my 3DS (prior to the NEW 3DS which had built in video playback thanks to the new hardware it had) and then look it up on the Internet Browser built into the system. On a NEW 3DS (when I eventually got one) I could just open up the link in a new tab while still keeping the original tab open (because original 3DS models literally opened a new tab for *everything* and would delete older tabs if to many were opened at once) but it still meant I needed to close the video if I was watching it to view the link(s) in question unfortunately.

Magi got busy with education, aspiring to work in healthcare. He was on a streak of daily uploads for YEARS so when he got too busy he broke that. He explained to me that its was a relief and he doesnt really want to get back, and I understand him a lot. He's doing well though, lost a lot of weight and is still around with us gensokyo boiz now and then.

@@Clownplease Ah, so he pretty much retired after he got too busy with important irl stuff. Don't really blame him to be honest. Unlike back then which was more of a hobby for many, current day KZfaq may as well be like having a full time job without many benefits.

Sometimes I think about what would happen If I were to be born a little earlier and experience the internet from another perspective. Being part of the touhou fandom in the 2008-2013 era would have been crazy! Still I also like the stuff that has been made while I was a teenager like Mister Jagger's videos or Vegetta777 and Willyrex. I guess what I really want ,now that I'm typing this, is to have known Touhou earlier and not feel weird liking it, as my first exposure to it was the Bonkumiru video from TF2 back in 2015 or so

Man I miss Magiftw. He was the person who expanded my knowledge of Touhou and it's wonderful world of Gensokoyo. I do understand why he left the series as official touhou content was drying up as the series was becoming really static during those times. I do love the new generation of Touhou youtubers who now realize Touhou's rich worldbuilding tapestry and real world influences that is comparable to Tolkien. The series always left me wanting to learn more. In my opinion this is the series greatest strength and could launch the it into new heights if given the Genshin Impact/Honkai Star Rail treatment.

Yeah, it deserves some recognition. Maybe there is more channel that focused on English translation? Maybe some recommendations? Especially considering there are a lot (I mean, A LOT) of MMDs, 4koma, Doujinshi or animations that spread out on KZfaq that in need of English subtitles for wider audiences. For me recently, there's channel like Niwatari Kutaka, 流氓桃子, and Shinobu_iw who provide plenty subtitles.

My introduction to the Touhou universe was the song "sentimental skyscraper", I found it in the game Osu back in 2018 (meaning I sadly joined when Touhou was already popular), seeing there are people that were into Touhou on youtube even as far as in 2000s kinda makes me jealous, I turned 18 two months ago and seeing those people were in my current age back then makes me respect them, being apart of what back then had to be considered niche community with very few English speaking people must have been exciting, thanks for uploading this video and paying respect to the OG's, they deserve it

MagiFTW is doing well, he's still around every now and then in our private gensokyo boiz discord. He was on a streak of daily uploads for years, which is really impressive. He shared some time that life was going to become busy and he was thinking of breaking that streak, which he was worried about. Then when he started pursuing a carreer in healthcare he broke the daily uploads, from which he started uploading less and less. I can imagine that breaking an upload schedule like that is kinda like giving up, so it's hard to pick things back up and keep going. But I can assure you he's doing good. Lost a lot of weight, is busy with his education now (still, i think). He checked in a few times with our Gensokyo Boiz podcasts and I think he talked a bit about it a while back on there. Nobody is around on youtube or on touhou forever. At some point you just get tired of it and want to pursue different things, but it's nice to dip your toes back in after a few years and reminisce. Good news is that Ciryes is frigging back, doing his own bit of reminiscing.

I'm pretty much a part of this graveyard as well from super early KZfaq. I'd still care about Touhou if it was expanded upon into better things, it's just been stagnant, not much happening to it. The fanbase really carried it man. I'm an Arknights guy now though haha.

Since you've shown off your investigative skills and ability to uncover so many channels, I'm wondering if you have any future plans of investigative or showcasing some of the current channels out there. They are often pretty small and hard to find so it'd be a pretty cool way to get some eyes on them. There are some really fun one's that are super hard to find like off the top of my head ninoseyasunori's Pichuun Gensokyo series. This series is so precious, unique, and adorable, that it is an absolute crime it's so unknown. The amount of work and love they put into those animations is astonishing. Or, on the more mundane mmd front, Obaniwan and there recent willingness to subtitle their Tengu mmd skits. Ton more unique mmd stuff out there though. And of course the legendary "Futo Skates but only once due to unforseen circumstances" by FinalLeet, not to mention their other stuff. There's probably a ton more stuff out there to be found but those are the hidden gems I've come across, Though i added FinalLeet, who's admittedly already well known.

Its silent animated comedy sketches with wholesome cuteness mixed in. They've been making, full colored drawn animated videos for years and years but have never really get well circulated to the west Spread the word 🙏

I once ran a semi-successful (for my understanding, I had like 2500 subs) channel that uploaded Touhou music, called Aenigma66, from 2011 to 2018. Man this video threw me for a loop. Those are names I haven't heard in a long time but who played a big part in my own descend into the Touhou rabbit hole. I got back into uploading Touhou music again like half a year or so ago, but it's not the same, I really miss ye olden days of TouhouTube.

Most including new touhou fans feel like they aren't living up to the standard of the past. Something I think is probably due to the fact that the creatives of the era deemed the Golden Age had less social pressure, more of a wild internet, and weren't already bombarded with memes from the start of their internet search. I see some channels that seem to carry the spirit of this creativity but it feels like a situation of less compared to before.

I miss Harponeet. He was my joy source back in 2015... Man. I used to fight for views against Natsu Ame and Hiroshi Li. Our rivalry (as i want to see it) was quite short lived, but i wonder what did happened to those guys. And... it seems im one of the remaining Alstroemeria reuploaders out there in my second channel. I also wander... what major music circles are simply fading or already faded into the past now.

While maybe not on his last video, but wasn't one of the last on his channel (or around it) about him saying he's going back to college? It hasn't been THAT long, so if I'm not misremembering someone else, he's probably too busy with that to do KZfaq right now. Hopefully someday

Speaking of Linkstarzelda, Touhou arrange/remix re-upload channels Kappashiro and Kogasa54 being the most notable besides Link. The Touhou fandom has a sub fandom of people who post Touhou remixes and arranges from doujin circles. Some even could be a candidate for "Touhou Inactive Channels" Moomar2 got deleted so MrTimelessWinter re-uploaded their videos but is inactive. 8 years ago last upload. Crystal Memories last upload is 4 years ago. Advance495 (Nazrininator) last uploaded 3 months ago, but it had a somewhat large gap of time from 1 year ago. The Bishamounten (not sure how to spell it) channel that posted the touhou arranges that deleted so they got re-uploaded by "Touhou Restoration Project". There was also a channel that posted a "Touhou Sexy Jazz 69" remix of Night Falls ,Flamenco remix of Kogasa theme,Latin remix of Minoriko and Shizuha theme, and Cirno theme as a sultry jazz song. However that channel is deleted but the Yukari remix was re-uploaded.

What about Miracle in Gensokyo? While its sad to see some creators to stop uploading, the Miracle in Gensokyo on is truly tragic as one day suddenly all the videos (Which were MVs with multi-language subs, including a lot of KamS videos) got deleted because the channel was deleted. To this day I can't still find those videos and most importantly, the translations because there have been no reuploads and those subs were the ones integrated within youtube.
