Why ‘the religious hippie?’
It was a nickname my friends gave me when I was in highschool because I dressed like a hippie and was a ‘wild child’, when I came back into my faith they thought ‘the religious hippie’ was now a more appropriate nickname and it stuck!

**UPDATE** There were two mistakes brought to my attention, we do NOT have ordinary time in the old calendar, and the Sanctus is NOT a part of the Canon of the Mass. Thanks to those who pointed it out! As a human, I am not perfect, and I really appreciate you guys holding me accountable! Thank you!

wow im surprised that the TLM and NO use 2 different liturgical calendars. honestly I think ordinary time is too long. I understand it lets us look forward to advent, lent, easter, and pentecost but it feels too long without something like lent or advent. I don't know how to explain it. All I know is I love our Catholic liturgy and its seasons.

Another nice thing about the TLM churches that I've attended: They have the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) before EVERY Mass- Not just twice a week like the "newer Mass" churches I've been to.

Sacrament of PENANCE. The Vatican 2 religion calls it 'reconciliation' because they wanted to emphasize one being recorded reconciled with the community. Modernist drivel.

Amber this is brilliant! I am just learning about Catholicism seriously and was originally worried about how I would handle a Latin mass I stumbled into, but then I remembered that I can be good with other languages and that I would just do my best to let the spirit of the mass wash over me. @@BXMKE Thanks for asking! It was a low Mass, so it ended up being very silent most of the time. Between this Amber's video and my familiarity with the ordinary form (which is Novus Ordo), the Latin was very easy to decipher on the go, even if I wasn't perfectly sure why something was being said or what exactly was being petitioned. As Amber said, the homily is a good mid-point to recognize which prayers you've done and which are still to come. With that and a good missal which you've read beforehand, I think you'll be more than ready. If you want the full experience, I recommend finding out what time the High Mass is. Mine was at 10:30AM, so it's probably something similar at your parish too. God bless, and Peace to you!

I'm not religious, but have always found everything catholic amazingly beautiful! If it weren't for the major disagreements i have with the catholic doctrines, i would most likely become a monk, giving myself to prayer and God. I still do this in a sense, and even use a rosary from time to time. Such beautiful traditions and history that i feel all humanity can partake in regardless of your spiritual background. Keep on, keeping on my catholic brothers and sisters! ❤

But I did take a look into catholic faith and the issues further compounded with things like mortal sin and venial sin, and if you miss mass without a very good exuse you fall into mortal sin? So what jesus did on the cross can still be undone just by a simple missed mass? Or even mary, how she is considered to be assumed to heaven, just bc she was the mother of Christ?....These far reaching assumptions of something we couldn't know for sure really makes it look like man likes to play God.....

Very neat to see Cantius as an example. My first time ever stepping into a cathedral was last June when I went to Cantius' Latin novus ordo. It was super jarring as a Protestant, but I've kept going (and joined RCIA). The midnight Christmas mass was so transcendent that it may have singularly changed my heart on the Catholic church All that to say, the Latin Mass and the ad orientum Latin Novus Ordo are both so beautiful that they speak to the heart in a way reason can't. Understanding the specifics makes you appreciate it more, but you get the gist of what's going on even with absolutely no background knowledge as I had.

This is a very nice video; I especially enjoyed the teamwork between you and your fiance. While I'm not a Catholic (or Christian), I am a language and religion nerd. One small correction: at 17:07 Max was explaining about the use of the word "O." I don't think it's clear that this word is taken from Greek; both Greek and Latin may have had this same vocative particle, ὤ or O. But if it is derived from Greek, it's not taken from the definite article, "the." It's a separate word used to speak directly to someone. (By the way, I'm also not sure the pronunciation of "Kyrie eleison" has been Latinized so much-maybe just the ei diphthong-although the pronunciation of Greek did change in different times and places.)

8:50 A fun bit of trivia: The reason why the altar Missal is moved to the left side has to do with the geography of Rome. It is, to my knowledge, the only part of Roman liturgy that is based upon this. It is better understood at a High Mass. For the reading of the Gospel, the deacon is to take the book out of the sanctuary then face to the left side of the church to chant the Gospel. Note also that at Low Mass or at a Missa Cantata, the Missal is placed with the pages facing a bit towards the center of the altar (on the Epistle side, the book is placed straight on). A church should be oriented so that everyone prays facing east, meaning that the Gospel side of the church is liturgical north. The deacon exists the sanctuary and faces towards the north because that is where the Germanic pagans came from relative to the city of Rome, and this action represents going out and preaching to them.

Just a word about the prayer before the Mass begins. When we enter and kneel to pray we are supposed to be offering the Mass itself for the four intentions of Holy Mother Church which are the intention to adore God, to thank Him, to implore His mercy for our sins, and to supplicate Him for His Grace. It is absolutely necessary to offer up these four ends of the Holy Mass. The old missals had this beginning prayer but in some, this prayer has been removed. If that prayer isn't present I strongly urge you to copy it from an older missal and paste it into your own.

I've been Catholic all of my life , i grew up in the NO mass , it's literally all that I know. I know the NO mass like the palm of my hand. I attended my first Tridentine mass at the beginning of this year, it was interesting. After 7 months of attending the Mass , i can safely say its just not for me. I'm not a fan of the silence and the constant kneeling. Especially since the parish i was attending had terrible kneelers with no cushion and you were kneeling 90% of the time. About halfway through i just had to stop kneeling because my knees were giving out because it felt like i was kneeling on straight up concrete. The silence also doesn't help, ironically many of my friends who go to the tridentine mass prefer it because of the silence because they have ADHD and the silence helps keep them focused on the Mass and stay in prayer. With the silence , i was actually lost. I mean i just didn't know what to do, just kneel their and watch but couldn't hear anything. I got bored quite quickly. I tried to stay focused and concentrated on the Eucharist, which i of course loved to receive while kneeling and on the tongue but it just felt like every time i left the tridentine mass i was just confused After 7 months of attending the Tridentine Mass exclusively, i quit going and went back to my local parish that is exclusively only offers the NO mass. After i quit attending the Tridentine Mass, i was invited to attend my first Byzantine Catholic Divine Liturgy and wow, what a Liturgy! After i attended my first divine liturgy, i was amazed and have started to discern if i should join the Byzantine Catholic Church. I love my Roman Catholic upbringing, but Eastern Catholicism is just so different and has definitely lifted my spirit ! Glory to Jesus Christ 🙏☦️❤️

At the end of all of that, my feet were killing me. I've been going to liturgy for almost a year now and I'm used to the standing. Most eastern churches stand for the majority of their liturgies @@RickW-HGWT

Nice explanation! Remember my fellow Catholics, take a look into the, "Novus Ordo" Mass form. It is really interesting and this style of Mass dates back 2024 years! Jesus faced His apostles!! So now, the Priest, Jesus' appointed apostle, faces us!! Just as Jesus did! It is such a beautiful meaning behind it. Highly recommend looking into it. God bless you all :)

Why does the mass continue after the priest says the mass is ended? After The priest says ite missa est.. He goes to the gospel side and reads John chapter 1.. And then the mass is over. So why not say ite missa est After reading the gospel of John????

I pray for harmony in myself before local NO because I let the female servers, hand sanitizer and masks bother me too much. The disharmony is in me and my fellows and all the harmony and peace is through God so I turn it over to Him. I wish TLM was not so far away, it costs me too much to hop on the train to go to the parish I love. PS congrats on your engagement! Hope you have lots of Catholic Hippy Babies

They are still using masks in your parish? That is mental. Female servers is not a problem, but I understand things like this can be annoying. Lay Eucharistic ministers annoy me but these things are not a massive deal in the grand scheme.

TLM is not about only understanding every word (and latin is not so difficult, especially if you are from norman-language countries). It has a great symbolic background. Also latin is sacred language of Church, so we should keep it.
@williamknox9087

Actually, the whole language thing misses the point since most of the Mass is celebrated sotto voce. I understand Latin, but it hardly matters if you can't hear it. Pax et bonum
@wordforever117
@wordforever117 9 ай бұрын
Most Catholics know the mass by heart anyway...so it really doesn't matter what language it is in. Novus Ordo is slightly better in the native language only because there is a lot more verbal participation from the congregation and you need to know when and what to say! But there are great missals with both Latin and English. It is really not an issue Regardless, every Catholic should know the Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Pater Noster and Angus Dei in Latin. Plus the Marian Antiphons in Latin. Because these prayer are rightly sung and Latin is a much better language to sing in!

You can use a missal with the translations, the priest does most of the speaking so you don't have to " know" Latin. At a TLM your at the foot of the cross, embrace the silence and reverence there that is so absent at the NO.

Catholic Mass is in contradiction with the teachings and practices of the church in the apostolic times. First of all, in the apostolic times there were no priests. It's clear from the writings of Paul that he believed that in the New Testament there should no longer be priests, 1 Tim 2:5 "For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus". But catholicism teaches that we should have priests and saints as mediators. Next, the New Testament priests were never mentioned in the Bible, and Paul never mentioned the priests in his listings of the offices in the church (in 1 Cor 12:28 and Eph 4:11). Catholics would say that's because the apostles were present at the time and they did the duties of the priests, and that priests came in their place after them. But the apostles were not present all the time with the churches that they established around the world (take for example Paul and the Galatians). There were no priests to consecrate the bread and wine, or to absolve sins at confession. People are deceived and believe if they go to mass that they are good Christians. Going to church and listening to the singing of the priests means nothing (but I acknowledge that the apostles instructed the believers to assemble). In the Catholic church, you'll never hear from the pulpit preaching against common sins in the society, because they do not want to offend the people. If you want to learn what is God's will, what is sinful in His eyes, you need to read the Bible. But the priests are hidding God's words for centuries. Communion, which is central in the mass, does not bestow salvation, as catholicism says, "who does not eat the eucharist cannot be saved". We are saved by faith and by our obedience to God in moral conduct, and not by eating and drinking.

The early Christians and the apostles weren't bible-alone cultists since the bible didn't exist. Plus do you know St Ignatius of Antioch, a disciple of St John the apostle and ordained BISHOP by St Peter the apostle????
@emz6133
@emz6133 9 ай бұрын
@@michaelwachira8484 The word "bishop" has its origin in the Greek word "episkopos" used in the Bible, which means "overseer". Paul instructed Titus and Timothy how to choose and appoint overseers, elders, and servants (deacons) for the churches, but not priests (Tit 1:5-9; 1 Tim 3:1-13), which is a clear indication that Paul didn't consider priests needful for the churches, since if he gave instructions for deacons which are the lowest in rank, he ought also for priests. Hebrews 7:23-24 are affirmation to this: "The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing, but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently." The early christians appointed the books and writings which would constitute the New Testament, and from their time only those writings were considered as inspired by God, so only they can be authoritative. On the other hand, the writings of the church tradition have many contradictions and some even multiple versions with big differences.
