With Fnaf's most eventful year yet, it was only fitting for me to cover the show-stopping star of it all: The Mimic. But, is he REALLY what everyone thinks he is? Lemme explain:

This video was an insane effort of love towards a flawed, but beautiful franchise. as undeniably canon as many of the problems with fnaf are, I still think that this franchise is (currently) still worth talking about. Our theories have gotten worse, our timelines are weak, and we claim to have solved fnaf more times than we can count, but if I was to do a retrospective... I'd say it was all worth it up until the point. But we will see if the fanbase's Help wanted 2 reaction continues that trend lol, or if any of the best fnaf fangames can take up the slack

Backgrounds were taken from various stock sites or created in photoshop as compositions by Shycrow (self). Midjourney AI was used in part to generate like, three Background images used in some compositions. That's right, I used AI to make like three backgrounds in a video in which I brought on almost 2 dozen artists, animators and editors in total. What was I supposed to do? Build sets? Travel and scout locations and hire a photographer?? Get your head out of your ass and go back to bullying some kid over his Scooby-Doo project on Twitter again. Jeez.

Ngl, i will say in the Theory... I kinda do disagree with "Burntrap is just an Alt-Timeline Mimic" aspect? Primarily: - The Arena and Blob both still exist, alongside the Pre-6AM messages still likely being Canon. - If William *were* truly dead (although UCN and such definitely indicate him surviving), we'd probably see his body *somewhere,* or at least some hint of it... - The amount of possible routes a still-living Afton could have taken, after Vanny and Glitchtrap Peaced Out, IS pretty lengthy (Still got Blob'd, Walked Out like the Blob is doing, Trapped under Rubble somewhere, possibly in a yet-deeper region, MAYBE even Sister Location...?) - Would be kinda odd for Greggory to just cook up a whole Corpse Rabbit design seemingly. - Extra odd for Vanny to seemingly just NOT let her boss's alt-self out. In general, i kinda DO wanna see how the plot continues since, while i dont think the books ARE Canon entirely (what we see ingame doesnt really match too well in the books)... Of course, there's the whole "Gitchtrap is William vs Mimic" idea, determining which one's the murder-happy robot and which one's the murder-happy zombie furry...

I mean today we have AI advancements and most of these geniuses behind it are either selling it to do AI art, AI programming that a lot of proffesional programmers don't like that much anyways, AI voices for shit posting, and AI girlfriends to exploit lonely people, instead of taking the horrible jobs nobody likes or helping with the most grueling aspects of someone's job... Is art reflecting the real world or is the real world reflecting art?

It's part of the evil I suppose--it's a very spiteful and petty thing to "waste potential" or "deny potential" of using something that could better the world for something relatively unimportant like an entertainment franchise. It's the same energy as a scenario of someone being incredibly rich and using that money to buy stupid things instead of donating it to charity or financially helping someone who needs it. That and/or humanity might be more accepting of advancing artificial intelligence if it's introduced to the more accepting generations and in a positive setting like an entertainment franchise.

Anyone else ever wish Scott could’ve gracefully left FNAF and move onto other things? The backstory of the mimic could’ve been fantastic for the main villain of a reboot or sequel to the Desolate Hope.

He definitely could’ve. Though it seems like he wanted to tell another story with FNAF. So I guess it might say something about how much he wants to do with it still. He could’ve just ended things with UCN, and HW being a non-canon game. But that’s not what happened. So it’s interesting to think about to say the least. I think mimic is great as a villain for this era but, I can see him fitting into one in the desolate hope.

I've been saying since Security Breach that Scott's somewhat of a "pantser" (a writer who writes by the seat of his pants), and it's at the very least HIGHLY likely if not admitted that he changed directions with Sister Location after the fandom didn't receive World and the implications of 4's story very well. So when everyone was tired of William Afton "always coming back" and didn't receive SB's Burntrap ending very well, why wouldn't they change directions again?

They didn't really change anything. Knowing about the Mimic now, if you go back to Special Delivery, that would be the Mimic's in game origin. Nothing was changed. The Mimic and GlitchTrap were once a part of the same virus. A virus either Afton or "the Client" made. One part of the virus entered the VR game and became GlitchTrap while the other part of the virus entered an animatronic and became the Mimic. As for BurnTrap, that was just a body Vanessa helped to make using Afton's old corpse to give GlitchTrap a physical body.

I like how Sister Location kinda seemed to set up Baby as the next main villain, only for FNAF 6 to just turn her into Scrap Baby and bring back Afton again.

It is so weird. He has a pattern of changing the story around, but it keeps getting more frequent. He changed it for Sister Location. Then he changed it for Help Wanted. Now he has changed it before AND AFTER Security Breach AND AGAIN for the Ruin DLC. I am kinda dreading the theories at the end of the year with Help Wanted 2, he might change the villain in the middle of the game or something.

@@LunaWitcherArtHonestly, I think he probably knows the story himself, and has it written in a coherent way, a lot of the time we take the community’s theory’s as fact, so we really dont know what the solid story is. As far as we know we’re adding in details that just over complicate things. Only Scott knows if what we’ve got is close or not.

I really like the initial backstory and a lot of the slasher set pieces they've made for the Mimic, so watching how they execute a lot of this stuff between the games and the books is like watching two people awkwardly transporting a sheet of glass across a busy street.

"Fredbear" Honestly Ruin feels like it just wanted to erase all the bad endings after the fan backlash. Yes, including the Burntrap ending. The "Princess Quest Ending" is the only logical ending if you want to continue the FNAF Story without William Afton.

I'm glad you brought up the fact that SB was getting a major overhaul close to release. If I recall correctly, MatPat made a theory vid where he predicted that we were on course for an Afton revival to Trash Rabbit battle from the books. Steel Wool then contacted him asking if he had an inside man. Then everything changed with the game. So, I am inclined to agree that the Mimic is a retcon addition.

The Princess Quest ending still did happen. Everything in the DLC points at it. Gregory and Vanessa both went down there at the Pizza Place to seal the Mimic and install MXES. You can find Gregory's bag and a scratch left by The Mimic in the collapsed vent. They sealed him there, which means that after Princess Quest, Glitchtrap was deleted and he stopped being Burntrap.

i dont think the princess quest ending implies glitchtrap was deleted, just that vanessa was freed (since the locked door was unlocked)... but maybe i guess since there was a digital scream also i agree that the princess quest ending would make more sense as canon than just the burntrap ending, though if it's canon they didn't want us to know vanessa is good now since ruin doesnt even mention her like at all.

I would like to say you neglected to mention the fact that in help wanted Glitchtrap’s only dialogue is mimicking lines from tape girl and it’s even implied some of the tapes were it pretending to be tape girl hence the contradictions between tapes.

Glitchtrap was fragmented into the tapes. He only uses a part of them as an attempt to form a communication. That's why he's "imitating Tape Girl." This is a narrative that works with both Afton being Glitchtrap and being Mimic, because it doesn't directly affect this topic.

The mimic has a big issue imo. If its whole gimmick is self learning and it was able to learn softer/kinder things when playing with the son then why is it so stupid to not discover positive actions out now? If the mimic was supposed to be afton's final act - some sort of dead mans switch or whatever - i think it would make more sense. I get its probably been corrupted by agony but i find this guy less interesting the more its talked about. Evil robot go ripppp. Zzźz

To be fair, this question's probably got an incredibly obvious answer: You cant really show it positivity in such a way to *stop* it from killing you for sure, *especially* if it's intent on ripping your arms out of your sockets or such if you tried to, say, hug it, or generally get near it :V Kind of like a poorly designed/placed tablesaw where you need to reach over the running unprotected blade to turn it off.

The Mimic isn't stupid, though. It has experienced kindness for a very short while, and then it was beaten to the point of almost being beyond repair. It has learned through this violence and developed it much more than whatever kindness it was taught. In a way, it became a very smart monster, since it has manipulated Cassie to free him and orquestrated the death of all the missing children with the Glitchtrap virus. The thing is that it has no way or reason to learn any kind things, because killing people is what it has learned the most. It's its purpose.

Hey just a quick note, Mimic is inside the basement because it was sealed post-SB! We can see Gregory's backpack down there, so the whole MXES program was probably built by Gregory and Vanessa. TL;Dr: Mimic and the whole burntrap arc probably happened !

I feel as if all this could have been avoided, had they stuck with Glitchtrap. People were pretty excited to see where that went, if I'm remembering correctly. Instead, they flew too close to that purple sun, and instead of a nifty digital ghost of Afton's presence, they busted out the damned corpse bunny again... Very unfortunate.

@@dumbly-stupid I wouldn't say it became a "laughing stock" with the illusion discs, just more Sci-fi. I honestly found it pretty tolerable. Hell...illusion discs don't even exist in the lore anymore! It was actually just one of those things matpat said that the hivemind collectively believed and ran with. I don't think the discs were even meant to be in the games, except for the puck on Funtime Freddy's torso. It was nothing but an Easter egg....fans will be fans and theorists will theorize and no one will think for themselves. Scott added them because the rabid dolts who consume matpat and ONLY matpat believe every word was true 100% SOLVED. blame those guys. Now instead of DISCS, we have GAS. Confirmed by a leaked new "tales from the pizza plex" book(unfortunately they are canon) Though...the gas is growing on me. It's much more believable that William creates a *gas* instead of a technological Soundwave emitter that messes with le brain. Think about it...throughout history we've created various gases or discovered them. Mustard gas is the most well known of the discoveries, I'd say nerve gas too! Mankind has history with chemical agents. A puck that emittes sounds that make you hallucinate is wierd but...William was ignoring his family and going insane designing those robots. I could easily see him just researching and teaching himself chemistry shit. He's wealthy and has the time because ignoring family, he's determined and murderous. That way he'd still be super-villain mastermind, but a believable mastermind. Making him more chemical terrorist than mad doctor.

Mimic is not Burntrap or Glitchtrap. It's a separate entity and Scott already said before that he uses the books to tell the stories that he couldn't put into the game universe. He also said that we should only take parts from the books to use in the games, not more. It is to explain the absence of a HUGE BAOBAB TREE in the entrance of the Security Breach in the books, where we only have a Freddy Statue at the entrance. Now, some of you may say "But Glitchtrap is mimicking Tape Girl's/Vanessa's voice in Help Wanted." and someone already made an explanation. It's because William is a soul in his Glitchtrap form, so he doesn't have a voice and if he created voice lines just for himself (who is not a character coded into the game, mind you), that would have attracted more attention to himself. So he instead used the already existing voice lines in the tapes which he connected himself to. And some of you may say "But there are tears and spit coming out of Glitchtrap's eyes and mouth" and its explanation is quite simple. Glitchtrap, Burntrap and The Entity from Ruin all have tear marks on their faces. Those are not tears, rather, they are Agony pouring out. William has a lot of Agony inside him. He's basically an Agony creature right now. That explains Tangle attacking Burntrap because he's full of Agony and it's attracting the Tangle which is theorised to be drawn to Agony. And oh, wouldn't you know it? Mimic in Ruin has no tears or spit marks on its face. How shocking. There are a million things pointing in the direction of how Mimic isn't William and can't be William but yeah sure, go ahead and dismiss all the evidence and just believe that William is dead. Yep, totally no explanation for why soul Cassidy would be following after a robot AI which didn't even kill her and has no connection to her whatsoever. Oh, and don't forget about how we will dismiss the truth about how Burntrap's and Mimic's locations are far away from each other.

We also fine the Mimic under the Pizza plex, which means that it's been down there for a long time and was either left there by Vanny or when that part of the building was closed off in the book. It makes no sense for Vanny to get the Mimic, give him a body, give him Afton parts, then take it all away and put bro behind a stone wall. The Afton like security in Ruin also tries to STOP US from letting the Mimic out, which makes no sense if it's also related to Afton. Nothing about the Mimic adds up with William and makes more sense if you think that the writers wanted William fans and Mimic fans to both get what they want (both being in the game).

@@SuperDababy2The physical mimic never left Freddy Fazbear's pizzeria because it got stuck there in a springlock failure, and Fazbear removed his head for use in the Pizzaplex/help wanted system and put a new one there in him (if the mimic is actually glichtrap, the reason would it be that the help wanted A.I want join the physical mimic that would be disabled at that time, forming the "Burntrap", but after the glichtrap was destroyed, the original A.I would have no reason to continue copying Afton)

I still believe that Glitchtrap and Burntrap are William Afton in a way, because if Steel Wool did want to change Glitchtrap and Burntrap to just be the Mimic, why get rid of them? We know Princess Quest is canon so Glitchtrap is flat dead, and Burntrap’s where a-bouts are completely unknown. So it seems they couldn’t continue Glitchtrap and Burntrap’s story without continuing the story of Afton, because those three were still the same in a way. Not to mention how there’s also a lot of evidence that disproves Glitchtrap and Burntrap are JUST the Mimic. So I choose to believe they’re both Afton and the Mimic in a way. But now that Glitchtrap’s destroyed any trace of Afton is now gone, the Mimic can do it’s own thing now.

And the entity In the mask was trying to stop us from releasing him. So Gregory and Vanessa must have sealed it away and made that program to protect to security nodes

people who say that "the clues have always been there" clearly have not considered that those "clues" could just be details that have been made into clues after the fact. For example Burntrap having his arm curled, like the mimic holding the toy, could just have easily been some random design decision that they wrote into the retconned story. Rather than the other way around. The clues are subtle enough that they could easily just be that. I've also seen people saying that the Tales of the Pizzaplex stories were written before the game. I'm pretty sure there's no proof that the release versions of the TotPP are the same as the original planned versions, or that they even were written (as opposed to just being planned to be written at some point). Obviously its possible that it was all planned beforehand. But it's so weird and fits so strangely with the endings in the base game that it seems like a retcon. Simply the fact that the Burntrap ending was the main secret ending, the only one without a comic at the time, plus being more tied in with what Help Wanted was indicating makes me think that there was a serious rewrite after everyone hated that. Consider that Vanny barely appeared in SB and has already been killed off, which seems very strange if they actually planned for the PQ ending to be the canon ending. Like they just dropped the entire plotline.

On that last point it is actually implied that Gregory was the one who sealed him down there as opposed to him never being free. We see his backback there and the Candy Cadet story foreshadowing the Mimic tells us how the monster under the basement learned the lullaby the mother would sing to trick the boy into freeing him. However, in this story the mother is the one who sealed the monster under the basement. So the implication is clearly that the Mimic is also emulating the one who sealed it down here. And while the specific events of the Burntrap ending never happened, Ruin goes out of its way to show that the things we saw in it still exist. We see Tangle and, more damningly, we see Burntrap's lair, even his charging station. So I think the implication is simply that they went down here, beat the crap out of him till he lost his suit. Then locked him behind concrete.

So, almost no story that lasts so long ever is planned to go the way it does. I.e. Star Wars was not episode 4 but later became episode 4. What is important is what you do with what you have or left behind. Does that "new" lore not recon what came before. That is what is important.

Hey, I wouldn’t even call half of this his writing, after all he almost never comes out and confirms if the community is right or not, just if we’re “close” or if we’ve got the right idea. I like to think he’s got the story written down in a notebook exactly how it’s supposed to be, and we’re just out here twisting and over exaggerating details that weren’t supposed to be anything of substance, and he’s just laughing and having fun watching us fumble. He might even want to step in at times but knows that’ll just mess up the theorizing scene.

The fnaf storyline should have ended with either 4 or the Henry ending where all the animatronics and Scraptrap get hurned to death. Perfect last bit of monolog, great execution. This is why i dont care for the mimic, if all it knew was mimicing and repeating, then how would it have been able to do everything to the men? Eviceration? Impaling? Stabbing? How would it have learned ANY of that? Scooping is one thing because ice cream, bashing another against the wall, sure, David could have done that with his Tiger plush as play, but everything else? It doesnt make sense. How could it have known to grab the trachea and pull down when it never saw one, let alone saw that action? How could it know how to stab and impale when the only violence it ever had was bashing from a metal pipe? It was never stabbed, it never saw that action, yet it can pull the most grotesque, detailed and perfectly accurate moves to completely destroy everyone around it because... one man beat me with a metal pole. Now i can perfectly murder anyone in any grotesque way possible. Yeah, okay, thats how mimicing works. xD it just feels like a random plot point that gets ignored, but eh, might just be me too.

I will no doubt admit FNAF is a cool franchise. Obviously it’s not perfect, especially when it comes to story telling. The mystery of FNAF is what makes it popular, as well as its marketing that attracts kids. Overall, while say that I like this idea. William Afton was a good villain, but a good villain needs to either die or get his (or her) comeuppance at some point. Glitchtrap is my favorite in Help Wanted, and while we did all believe that it was William, the idea that it’s just a mimic of him is pretty clever. Even Williams signature catchphrase “I always come back” can be taken in a figurative way. William knows that there’s a copy of him, and it’ll only be a matter of time until that copy of himself will be released. Or maybe he was just being crazy, and it meant nothing.

I have to respectfully disagree that this was the best solution. Was it the only way to have Afton without having Afton? Perhaps? But here's the thing; there's nobody holding a gun to Steel Wools and Scott's heads forcing them to put Afton plotlines in their games. Nobody. They already had a villain blue-print who could have been used without any of that convoluted Mimic retconning; Vanny. She was brainwashed by Glitchtrap, yeah, but there are many ways they could go about this, without doing the Mimic thing. Glitchtrap is Afton's copy, sure. But it doesn't have to be a perfect copy with a perfect plan. Perhaps infecting Vanny broke her mind and she's simply recreating murders, like a copy-cat killer. Or maybe she has a completly different modus operandi than Afton! Maybe while Afton was looking for immortality through the means of occult and science, Vanny begans experimenting with creating copies of human brains and uploading them into the web or sth to keep on brand with the fact that she's an IT specialist and uses SB as her test grounds! Or perhaps she's not even after immortality! Because honestly, the more of her own character she is, the better. SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO TRY AND RECREATE AFTON. In short; I think Mimic is a dumb solution to a dumb problem they've created on their own, because they didn't use Vanny like. At all.

The scene with the baby crossing just makes me think back that to that scene in Pet Sementary, the original movie, where the baby boy runs into the road and this goddamn trucker plows into him. Like dude, what was with that trucker? The same semi-trailer truck pretty much turned most of the cast into roadkill. Thank you someone finally gets what I’ve been thinking! My biggest concern with mimic is how do we go forward from here? I personally think it’ll be probably terrible if we don’t have Afton as glitchtrap but that’s my opinion at this point I straight up wish they recon sb and ruin so we can go from square one because this is a mess it all stems from mimic yeah he’s cool but he doesn’t Make sense and he doesn’t replace Aftons role enough it feels empty without Afton
