The Three Stooges live on and forever will. This vaudeville and comedy team not only entertained us for years but also created content that inspired generations and will continue to do so. The intrinsic idea behind every Stooge production was the same -- all people are stupid, but some people are more stupid than the others and the Three Stooges made the audiences believe this with their performances.
Moe, with his permanent scowl and bowl-cut hair, was the underboss of the group. Curly, perhaps the most loved Stooge of all time, managed to entertain audiences every single time as the incompetent nincompoop forever at the receiving end of Moe's abuse. Larry, a mellow simpleton, served as the perfect bridge between the Moe's scourges and Curly's child-like charm. When the three took to the stage, it rained slaps, smacks, punches, and pokes and audiences invariably found themselves rolling on the floor.
The Three Stooges tasted great success in their life. But, behind the scenes, you would never have guessed that theirs was also a story of greed, exploitation, and opportunism. In this video, we shed light on the tragic tale of The Three Stooges. Stick around to the end of the video to find out how their lives ended right before achieving huge success.

Far from a "Tragic Downfall" The Three Stooges had a damn good career and Moe and Larry the two of the "Three" especially. Moe and Larry were together longer than any other comedy team and The Three Stooges especially Moe, Larry and Curly are now part of screen "gems" history for all time.

@@johnboehmer6683 True. I've, through watching different Stooge videos(lifelong fan, btw) learned that some Stooge fans call Larry "The Great Reactor". This is due to the way he responds to the third Stooge getting nailed by Moe, that is, when poor Larry isn't getting nailed himself, lol! I started watching with this in mind, and it's true! Larry provides much literally unspoken Stooge comedy as an observer!

So I'll was born in 1955. I learned how to turn on the TV set myself by watching my parents do it. And so I would wake up at the crack of dawn. I would watch the TV station sign on. And they would go into the Three Stooges. Then in syndication.. I watched so much TV as a kid. My mother would scream at me, constantly. And scream..."WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING TO DO FOR A LIVING WHEN YOU GROW UP?!?! WATCH TELEVISION???!!!" Today mom is still alive and pushing 97. I'm 65 and retired. After getting paid to watch television for 20 years. As an NBC-TV Audio Engineer. Thanks mom! She's never lived that down. It sounded like a great idea to me. The rest of the time I went to rock 'n' roll concerts for free. Actually I got paid to go. To record the rock 'n' roll concert. For local, nationwide and worldwide broadcast. Of rock 'n' roll music festivals. So I also get paid to listen to rock 'n' roll. I was always taught by my parents never used 4 letter words. Like, WORK. Now I'm 65 retired into old to work a job. Maybe I'll just record more rock 'n' roll? I haven't grown up yet so. I never had any children of my own. To age me. Instead when I felt parental. I would just borrow my friends kids. And put them to work doing rock 'n' roll audio jobs with me. There were never any complaints. And their stupid parents trusted their kids with me LOL ha ha ha. Now many are degenerates just like myself. And working for major television networks. As engineers and directors. And here I thought Anthony just wanted to be an audio engineer as he said. Now he's a big-time director. What did I do wrong? Take-2 RemyRAD

Love The Three Stooges! ❤ Curly has always been my favorite with Moe at a close second. It always saddened me that Curly passed away so young. So it's heartwarming to see Curly's grandson, Brad "Curly G" Server, carrying on his grandfather's legacy. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. 🙂 He has a KZfaq channel where he and some friends create Stooge-like videos. They even traveled the US a year ago with a Three Stooges live show. ❤🙂

The Three Stooges were always our favorite after school TV show, growing up in the 60’s. We would run home from grade school, Junior high, and high school yes even as an adult. I still laugh my tokus off at 4:00 in the morning on TBC. They are a part of the American culture three brothers just trying to to make a living by making so many people laugh. I did not know that Columbia studios were responsible for Curly early death, which shall always be dark moment in Columbia Studios history of events. “what goes around comes around” W.C. Fields

Correction on Larry Fine, Lary Fine died in January 1975, 4 months before Moe Howard in May 1975. The story of the Three Stoges is one of 3 men who never gave up, never quit no matter what happened to them. They made several movies with Curly Joe Derita that made them the best money the stooges every made. Read Moe Howard's autobiography for confirmation of these facts.

I watch the 3 Stooges every night and I'm 64yo. I've watched them since age 7. I'm disheartened by both their exploitation and their missing out on how popular they are. Moe had great business sense and comic timing, Larry being a Musician and the fall guy was the oerfect compliment to the act. Curly could bring a laugh even during all the pummeling. Shemp was unique insofaras he seemed to have his own foil to Moe's berating. Joe Besser stepping in to help keep the act going was great and being a known actor from the Abbott and Costello Show, (another great act) helped. Finally, the Cartoons would not have been created without Joe DaRita. He brought a kinder, gentler air to the Stooges. Let's not forget all the supporting Actors who made the Shows great! Emil Sitka had the chops to take over as the 3rd Stooge but I'd gotten so used to him being different supporting characters that incorporating him would've been a stretch. Thank goodness they live on today.

I already knew most of their facts. However there were some inconsistencies that I noticed. Moe and Larry died in 1975 within months of each other. Curly's excessive drinking and eating were also the cause of his health problems. I feel sorry for him that he felt insecure about himself. Also what wasn't mentioned that the Stooges actually got hurt during the filming of their shorts. Moe got the worst of it. If all that they went isn't considered suffering for their art I don't know what is!
@garylockhart7112
@garylockhart7112 3 жыл бұрын
You are so right. Moe broke some ribs during the filming of one of their shorts. Shemp got a broken nose by Christiine McIntyre when he told her to really lay into her punch during the filming of "Brideless Groom." In another short, Larry got a pen thrown at him that went into his forehead. So yes, they really did suffer for their art.
@mulehead126
@mulehead126 3 жыл бұрын
Correct, they died within three months of each other. When they can't even get their death dates right, it makes you wonder what else they got wrong - and as a diehard Stooge fan, trust me, they got a lot wrong.

You're not the only one. For instance The Laurel and Hardy Murder Case and If A Body Meets A Body have similar plots. The main difference is the ending. In Laurel and Hardy the whole haunted house thing was all a dream. The Stooges were not dreaming. They ended up crying and tearing their hair out because Curly only got $.67 in his uncle's will!

They did have a great clause in their contract that allowed them to make money outside of their film work by doing stage, personal appearances, etc. They had 12 weeks off per year to do this type of work and Moe (who did all the bookings as he was the leader offscreen as well) had them earning 4X's what they could make in the films so this was great. Also, their resurgence in the 1960's in feature films made them tons of money as they were finally out of their original Columbia Contract. Yes, they got screwed in many ways, but it wasn't all bad.

It's amazing how gullible the public are and perhaps always have been.They only see the veneer ,ie the films etc but ignore the heartache behind the scenes.I'm in the UK and it's hard to see how American audiences could find this stuff hilarious- different tastes in comedy obviously, whatever turns you on as they say. nevertheless a terrible price for them to pay and a hell of a comment on the American system.

This should be called "Myths Verse", not "Facts Verse". The dates of different events in the Stooges' history correct, but your statements about Harry Cohn "exploiting" them are false. There is no evidence Cohn didn't allow Curly to rest, on the contrary the Stooges' schedule was extremely light - no more than 6-7 weeks per year were spent actually filming shorts. If anything, the Stooge's own decision to go on their many personal appearance tours did far more to harm Curly, those tours were grueling and Curly partied hard on them. A particular East Coast tour in the fall of 1945 was devastating to Curly's health. Despite doctors advising against going on it. they performed nearly every day and during that tour Curly married a gold digger. The combination of that tour, that woman, and Curly's partying is evident in their 1946 shorts. No mention at all of that tour in this video. You cite "Pininterest" often as a "source"...seriously? BTW, Larry passed away in 1975, not 1974 as is stated in the video. And the Stooges' approximately 20K per year per Stooge salaries equals over a million dollars a year in today's money. Not bad for at the most 6-7 weeks worth of work spent actually filming shorts for actors who didn't make feature films. Columbia did not make as much off the Stooges as is claimed in this video either.

I've seen several biographies on The Three Stooges, and never heard a word about Cohn's exploitation either, but I have heard it said a couple times that they were not given a very impressive salary, or royalties. Nothing like the equivalent of a million dollars a year you're saying. So who knows?

Wow so sad that those talented man we're so used and abused like many actors back in them days and then it went to the other extreme now the actors are overpaid they don't deserve the millions they get like that they deserve an honest pay like a teacher or a police officer in a police officer deserves what the stars make And thus pure greed and corruption back then this country was built on greed and corruption

When I was a little girl I like them but Anthony don’t I find their humor not funny. You don’t pertain to hit people that you supposedly are your brothers.To get a laugh it’s disgusting. They are calling themselves names there they’re saying things that are not nice we have enough trouble in the store and we don’t need to Three Stooges to make people feel bad showing or emulate what they see don’t put stuff like that on TV. Have a blessed day

There is absolutely so much wrong with this video. So much that I don't even know where to start. You've managed to wrangle every myth possible and lump it into a 10 minute trainwreck of misinformation that it is mindboggling, so I'll start here: The Stooges were paid very well for being a strictly short-subjects attraction. Their deal was 8 shorts per year at Columbia. A short averages approx. 3-5 days of shooting, and they were paid $20,000.00 a piece for a year. With their contract, the boys were allowed to tour and make personal appearances, which supplemented their income greatly. Now, let's revisit that $20,000.00 a year and let's say the year is 1942. In today's dollar, that is approx. $343,000.00. Pretty good cash for 8 weeks of work per year...for 24 years....and they did receive raises. Also...when the later remakes with stock-footage were in full swing as common practice, shooting of any new footage would sometimes only take a day...and they were paid the same....for, in some cases, a week or less of work for the year. As Larry once said, "We had one of the sweetest deals in Hollywood". I'll skip ahead a bit to the post-Shemp years and Joe Besser. Joe was already under contract at Columbia appearing in a separate short-subject series (Columbia produced over 500 slapstick two-reelers between 1933-1957 starring many popular comedians. These shorts had the same writers, directors and even stock-footage remakes, so the situation was no different than what was happening with the Stooges) so it was suggested by Jules White, the head of the Shorts Department, that Joe join Moe and Larry. He had no clause in his contract, but the violence towards him was indeed scaled back a bit because it would jar with his already well-established characterization of himself that audiences were already very familiar with. Joe parted ways as a Stooge the same day Moe and Larry did...when they were informed on Dec. 20, 1957, on the final day of filming FLYING SAUCER DAFFY, that Jules White was retiring and the Shorts Department was closing (it had nothing to do with them being turned away and locked out of the studio after Harry Cohn died on Feb. 27th, 1958 (two months after they filmed their final short and were informed about the Shorts Department's closure). It's funny that you call your channel "Facts Verse" when you're not really presenting anything factual. Just more myths and the same old "the Stooges got screwed by Cohn" stale stories. Cohn kept them working....and he paid them well.

No, not really. That is the meaning of slapstick comedy. I think, millions of other people out there would not really agree with you totally, on your thoughts about the Stooges.
