Mary Morello,was my favorite high school teacher at LHS in Libertyville, IL. She was a fantastic teacher who,had a passion for her work and I loved to listen to her personal stories. I remember her talking about her son who,was a toddler at the time and I think that she had been married to a Kenyan but was separated by then. Being young and white - and growing up in that totally white village, I knew nothing of racism or prejudice. I had no idea that she or Tom had been treated so badly. I have the fondest memories of her and often think of her even after 50 years.

@@Stars2p If you knew Irvine California- you would understand that calling it the most racist place imaginable is incredibly stupid and lame. It's like calling Disneyland a North Korean labor camp. “There is no form of protest against racism that is acceptable to racists” - Bernice King
@srzjumper
@srzjumper 3 жыл бұрын
Just read Bernice King's wiki, says she is for "Nonviolence 365" in the legacy of MLK. So it certainly does make a big difference how one protests. Compare MLK protestors verse today's burning and looting. With Rage at SNL show (protesting), as with anyone targeting the US flag, it seems a poor selection (as they make up the flag themselves and gives them rights to perform). Labeling Bush/Cheney as a war criminal I agree. Hypocritically today Republican voters love to pin all war crimes on Clinton/Obama/Pelosi - and so called leftists. I attended one concert with Rage performing in NY.
@adav5653

@@srzjumper People will bitch about how they protest no matter how they do it (burning the flag is a form of peaceful protest- the first time I saw it was from a veteran). Peaceful protesters have been attacked just like they were back then. Not being POC you dont really get to dictate how they do it. If you are then get with people who want to do things your way. I agree but disagree with BLM. It’s a Marxist anti cop organization that will only cause more problems and divisions for the people and neighborhoods they enter and influence politically. Had a sign blm sign in my front yard. Took it down after what they did to Seattle. We need police and first responders to protect and defend people that need help. See the consequences of this already. when criminals rule the streets only leads to more criminals in the streets. Then what? Just avoid those neighborhoods? They were paraphrasing what you said, though I disagree that you were being condescending; you were actually being racist. The band member's ethnicity did play a role in their music (besides the content creator mentioning how it did, one of their top songs "Killing In the Name" talks about racism...). I was there when they had the fight that broke them up. It was at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in LA. Ozomatli had opened for them and walked straight through the crowd and out the front door to play in the street. Rage was playing the most intensely charged set that I have ever witnessed. At one point Zach told the crowd that the next time a cop puts their racist hands on you, to put them in their grave. Tom got visibly angered by the comment and stepped over to Zach to have what looked like angry words while they both kept shaking their heads at each other. Toms last words to Zach before he turned around to play, was “Fuck you!” Then they played like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The entirety of General Admission became a mosh pit. The most epic shit I’ve ever seen. I was there at the DNC when they ran us off. I have seen them and Tool 30+ times collectively, and I’ve never seen anything like what happened that night. I must be a racist! 🤔 Don’t tell my gf 🤫 Oh, I know! Let’s tell people a disease that we intentionally manufactured and introduced to the world is more deadly than it actually is while simultaneously allowing people from ANYWHERE into our country with no questions asked. That way we can get the new people to vote for us while we tell the existing people that our opposition don’t care about our health bc they don’t obey our mandates!!! Thank you for posting this history of rage against the machine. Killing In The Name Of is one of my favorite social protest songs. I didn't know of their history of being bullied. I'm a songwriter and working on my EP I'm finishing my fifth song this week. All my songs deal with social issues facing our nation and the world including racism and bullying. Can I send you a preview of some of the songs with my private SoundCloud links. I have all the backend things to do so I'm figuring releases for about 2 to 4 months except for bullying which I accidentally have a release date I can't remove. That one might have to come out Friday next week although I had tried to delay it. If you like rage against the machine as I know you do, I think you might like some of my songs. Peace, Leslie

WTF... I grew up with Brad Wilk and he is the only band member you didn't profile in a bio?? So, born in Oregon where he lives now, Brad Wilk was raised in Woodland Hills California in an affluent hillside home bordering Mulholland drive. His parents were average people and he has an older brother named Steve. Brads first tattoo was of a lion's head on his shoulder and he had a drum set he played daily during his high school years. His idol was Neil Pert from Rush and Brad could play all his music beat for beat. He would accompany his older brother at friends parties and was considered calm and quiet. Eventually he broke out of his shell and formed a band called Rage Against the Machine. The band went on to make history as a global phenomenon fighting for the rights of the suppressed. Personally I could have toured with them as security and photographer, but chose to remain in the San Fernando Valley.
