Episode four of Season three has the guys taking a quick look at the new Lionel Union Pacific Rocket Booster train and the Strasburg 0-6-0 #31 steam locomotive.
Walt shares some new HO freight cars and an N scale Big Boy. And Bill fixes Harry's Strasburg passenger car, yes, you read that right.
And they also look at a few other new new Lionel operating items like the Firefighter Tank Car Accident Training and the Train Orders Buildings. Plus a few new freight cars.
The "Train Shop" is their 83 year old family run model railroad shop Henning's Trains in Lansdale Pennsylvania. They are model railroaders and not Audio Visual people, but they seem to enjoy themselves and we hope you do too.

That was a nice "how to" on that Strasburg car, although let's be honest it shouldn't have been necessary. C'mon Lionel, wake up! Qaulity control's what it's all about if you want repeat business. A fun show as usual guys, thanks for posting!

Yes it should not have had to flip the interior around but not the first one in this passenger car. Had a few of the MTH that had same thing when they built them. They were built out of the same factory.

@@harryhenninglll117 Unfortunately this is what happens when the factory's 12,000 miles away and you can't keep tabs on them. The fix is a LOT easier said than done though. I mean Lionel's fix, not Bill's fix of the cars. Bill did a good job showing how it's done.

I forgot to mention, I've still got the O Gauge Railroading magazine with the "Train in the Christmas Tree" article! It was just too good to throw in the recycle bin! 🤩

I remember when o gauge railroading magazine was o-scale railroading. No.3 rail no Lionel, no American Flyer. It was all about to rail, 0 scale DC power. Serious adult model railroading in 0 scale. But everybody jumped into three rail even when everything they had was brand-new. They eventually took over the magazine, the toy train guys. I really like that magazine in the old days.

Years ago Kaline came out with a 027 Size Big Boy locomotive. They should have made one to run onto rail American Flyer track as well because all of the American Flyer guys would have loved to have a nice big locomotive like this. It's smaller in size but proportional not all scrunched up like the turbine was. It was $400 in conventional and by the time it got delivered three years later I had forgotten I ordered it. I was going to send it back but I did not want to pay $100 restocking charge so I kept it unopened in the Box. I hear m-th is going to come out with a railking big boy for $700. I hope they make one i n conventional because I don't need all the electronics. For $2,700 I would rather have four locomotive than one. My Kaline big boy is going to be on my exclusively 027 layout underneath my hi-rail layout.

Putting the interior and the proper direction would that be considered warranty work?

Passenger car should have at least 100 people in a coach. When I bought my first subway car set it cost me more to fill it up with commuters then it was for the actual train.

This is what I do with empty passenger cars that I don't feel like putting people in. I save empty milk jugs and cut strips out of them to cover the windows. The milk jug plastic's thin enough to let light through but opaque enough so you can't see through it. On most of my cars it seems to also have the effect of making the interior light brighter. I can't tell you why tht is but I'm not complaining!

It is ironic now that Atlas Freight cars cost more than an atlas locomotive did i n the 1970s.

As far as I've seen no KZfaq channels concerning model railroading tell you what the prices are, it's no big deal for me since I can find out myself easily enough.

All the shops that have to go through and correct all those cars should charge Lionel for their time and effort. God knows how many cars had the interior reverse. Stuff happen. They had a new guy at the BSA Motorcycle Factory and he unknowingly put pistons in the 250 singles he was assembling in backwards. He had no idea he was putting them in backwards. Probably the same thing for the factory workers. Still it is a fault that has to be corrected.

Hey, 31's one of Strasburg's "Old Reliables!" When all else fails (which isn't very often) they trot out 31, it always gets the job done!

@@wayneantoniazzi2706 engine hasn’t run in 15 years for good reason, it’s an awful runner. Glad the railroad retired it. 90 is the king of the rails, 31 is garbage and everyone knows it.

In this hobby...."Stuck in the basement" isn't really a bad thing........ Bob Smith Industries glue remover works good...... Lou's surplus at Q Mart in Quakertown PA has bundle packs of heat shrink for a good low price.
