You've diagnosed the cause of your customer's A/C complaint as a failed compressor.
But are you sure that the reason for the failure has been corrected?
If not, that brand new one you just installed doesn't stand a chance.

I took my 93 chevy suburban ( 92,000 miles )to a shop ( September 2022 ) because the A/c wasn’t cooling. The compressor was replaced along with other needed parts . The compressor failed 3 weeks later ( October 2022 ) . Compressor replaced. Compressor failed again in December 2022. Compressor replaced. 3rd compressor failed in March 2023 . Also I don’t drive my suburban much hence Low miles. Compressor replaced with number 4 compressor. Number 4 compressor failed in July 2023. NUMBER 5 compressor replaced in July 2023. Remember I don’t drive my suburban a lot. In early September 2023 , I noticed that the compressor was again making a lot of noise/ racket. Before I could go back to the shop for repairs one of the a/c lines Blew up right behind the compressor. They wanted an extra $760 to fix the a/c lines recharge etc. WHAT ABOUT MY WARRANTY/ Guarantee?? ITS OUT OF WARRANTY they informed me. Basically 1 year warranty on parts and labor. In one years time I drove the suburban about 3,100 miles. So my suburban is back to square one. This all happened in Waco Texas. I guess I’ll replace everything myself and take it to a shop for evacuation and recharge. I’m 70 years old and disabled so it’s going to take me a while. Waco Texas. Thanks

Good info loved the part about shaking around components to get the flush in everywhere and out properly. Great tip about holding the compressor with the pully down for 10 minutes and then turning ten times in the correct running direction. Seems so informative but didn't mention how much oil should be put in the components that are flushed or a evaporator Dryer that is replaced. Seems like an important bit of information. Others claim 2 Oz per component but I'm not sure. Anyone know for sure? Others say too much oil might cause the side of the compressor to blow out.

Great video but If I can't remove the evaporator to flush it out I should just not clean it then? Is it really that bad to flush it while it's installed?
@Enrightauto

Great video now if only every shop would do this and charge correctly for it vs shade tree mechanics out there slapping stuff in and charging very little to try and just get the jobs. That’s ok they eventually make it to me just after they already had someone in there messing around replacing parts.

Excellent and you are a such a good teacher! Comprehensive and easy to follow. Questions - In a working system especially since the drier may potentially be saturated on an older vehicle....Do you recommend replacing refrigerant/accumulator/dryer/o rings/other items? - A refrigerant line with a muffler with potential metal shaving contamination recommended to replace....Not able to flush out? - Is a nitrogen purge required after major component replacement before vacuum procedure?

I always replace the accumulator or rec/dryer (depending on system) whenever I have the system open for service. In Europe, it is not uncommon for these components to be treated as a maintenance item and replaced every two years (depending on the cost and complexity of the replacement). As for flushing, I don't recommend it at all - too many opportunities for the debris to just move to a new location rather than be removed. The only thing I would flush if a compressor grenaded are the lines with no mufflers in them.

@@MotorAgeMagazine Thanks for the advice. I also appreciate the anti compressor slugging proceedures! It looks like the solvent based pressure cleaning potentially could be more detrimental to the AC sysytem if not throughly evacuated and your emphasis on this drives it home! How can it possibly be completely removed and visually ascertained with such tight chambers in the evaporator coil? After listening to your discourse on this subject, I wonder how many shops are not thoroughly following legitiment proceedures leading to premature failures. I wish we were neighbors!!!👴👍

Good comment! I failed to mention what is, to most of us, the obvious...you must absolutely perform a full vacuum evacuation prior to recharging the system. Thanks for sharing!
